Went out for the first time on the bike today,I don't stop anywhere and if I do get a pull I'll explain that it really helps my hips, this is not bullshit,I had a double hip op 3years ago and I find after a ride because of the widish nature of the seat it splays my pelvic area and eases the stiffness I sometimes get and that to me is the same as daily exercise and whether it's not classed as an essential journey is neither here or there as far as I'm concerned. It'll be interesting what response I get if I do get stopped.

I am getting tested tomorrow to see if I have it.

I know two people that have had it confirmed. One of the nurses , 40 years old,  that works with my wife in child pediatric services, ( my wife does the admin organising the clinics ), she actually lives next to us and was confirmed as having it 3 weeks ago. She could hardly get out of bed for a week, felt totally knackered , ached all over, extremely bad headaches, no breathing problems. She says she feels fine now, no lasting effects.

The other person I know that is confirmed is still in hospital, an old biking mate , 62 years old, that moved down south is still in hospital. Been in for over two weeks , not ventilated but on oxygen all the time, his wife says he doesn't seem to get any etter or worse. He suffers from copd, is very over weight,, high blood pressure.

Are you getting tested out of curiosity or are you showing symptoms? 😬
Either way hope it comes back clear mate

FYI

To summerise the advice I have had;

Present yourself for testing within three days of coronavirus symptoms appearing.  Do not present yourself for testing after day five.  Testing after day five will only take place for a specific reason as agreed by local microbiologists.

The advice may differ in England and Wales, and Northern Ireland.

Bit of both really, very mild symptoms for a couple days, but it could be any normal bug .
I got offered the chance for the test through this app,  https://covid.joinzoe.com/,  either home test kit or go to one of the drive thru centres. There is a test centre less than 10 miles from me so went there today. It was well organised, mixture of nhs and army staff plus others making sure you followed the correct procedure.
A swab  as far back in your mouth as they could and then another up nose.
You are meant to get results within 48 hours but it can take up to 5 days.

The test centre was very quiet, there were 5 bays, no cars in any of them, I was in straight away, saw two more cars pulling in as I was leaving.  Took less than 10 minutes from having my ID checked to driving out. When I went to book it on the website  there were plenty of empty slots.

The app I have given a link to, if anybody wants to have a look at it,  is just a symptom  tracker, there are about 2.5 million people using it, there is more info on the website.

VNA, I think the 3 to 5 day testing advice was correct until recently as now the push seems to be getting as many people tested as possible.

Apologies to Oldgit for hijacking your thread a bit.

That’s the Scottish government advice, which I get in my inbox straight away at work.  So, may well be different in England and Wales.

Anyway, fingers crossed your test comes back negative, or if it does come back positive hopefully you are one of the ones that shakes it off nae bother.  Anyway hang in there.

Same here, need to get out on bike, go for a meal, take grand kids out. Sick of queueing to get into shops and then queueing to get back out !
How people with no gardens or hobbies/ interests are coping I don't know.

Anyway, got my Covid 19 test results back and it was negative  :) . But what bug did I have then?
Had dry cough, headache, muscle and joint pain and temp was 37.8, ( not sure how accurate thermometer is though ) , all meant to be symptoms of Covid 19.
Wonder how many people have had those symptoms,  thought they had Covid 19 but haven't ?

Good news :thumbup .  Most likely culprit is the flu.  More good news is your are talking in the past tense.

Here’s a thought.  Many (untested) people who say they have had Covid19 may have had the flu.  Most people who say they have the flu have a cold.  The last time I had the flu it scared the shit out of me and I now take a flu jab every year.

I also thought I'd had the flu a few times in the past until I got it 2 years ago,I couldn't believe how bad I felt,I actually thought I had pneumonia! at times I swear you could ring the sheets out and next minute you were freezing cold and so weak I couldn't get out of bed. When the quack said I'd had the flu I didn't believe him,I never thought it was that bad and obviously never had it before.I also have the flu jab now, never want that again. :eek

Yeah, it makes me smile when people say they've got 'a touch of flu' You don't get a touch of flu. it knocks you for six, puts you in bed and makes you wonder how you can survive feeling so ill. I had it in my teens and still remember it vividly.

I've had flu twice that i can most certainly recall, which was around the Millennium time in 2000, because i remember not being able to go out for two weeks and on Dec.31st i was in front of a fireplace with a quilt around me sweating buckets but shivering as if i was in the North Pole.
The other time, again ill for a couple of weeks, was in 2010, and this time round was when i lost my sense of taste and smell, and they have never returned since then.

I've been using the C-19 app as well for a few weeks now and was recently not feeling so good even though i'd been properly isolating, and i got an invite to take a test which i took up yesterday.
This test is offered by the Department Of Health, and alarm bells are triggered if a certain combination of symptoms are reported. When you get the results i presume it's then down to you to feed the data back into the daily app to update these records.
I'm not classed as an Essential Worker, so i got listed as a Volunteer, and they do say they will also be sending people for tests that they know won't have the virus.
As a Volunteer it seemed to me like the Home Testing Swab Kit wasn't an option that i could see, i could only visit a testing centre, which was no big deal.

Just a heads up, you can't get tested on a motorbike at these centres.
They are extremely well controlled and organised, but in a car you have to keep the windows completely shut, due to the fact that you're entering a zone where the virus could be much more prevalent than normal. On entry AND at the testing bay they will use a scanner to scan a barcode they send you on your phone, plus when registering for the test you need to put down who's in the car for a test and the Reg. Plate number for quick and easy I.D.
You get to select a 30min time slot, and mustn't be too early, or late. I think we were there for 25mins in total, and there were 2 cars in front of us.

The test itself was not very pleasant to be honest. Sticking your tongue right out, saying aaaaahhh, then having someone hit the uvula at the back of your throat with a swab nearly made me chuck up twice. Then for good measure they shove a swab right up your hooter too.
Once done though you should get the results normally within 48hrs, but anything up to 5 days if it's very busy.

I'm 99.9% certain i will show up Negative when i get my result.
The only downside to this particular test is that it only shows Positive if you 'currently' have the virus.
If you have already had the virus, but then recovered, it will still show up as a Negative.

The other test however (possibly available soon at a cost) is the Antibody one, which shows if you have antibodies in your system from previously trying to fight off an infection which then stay in your body in case they're needed again in the future.
Get a Positive reading for that one and you have a green light as "theoretically" you should now be immune. This is not 100% guaranteed that you can't be infected again, due to the way that viruses mutate, but even still your body would most certainly cope with any reinfection much better than it would have done without these antibodies, without a doubt.
If the price is sensible i will have a go at one of these tests as i do have a strong feeling that i've previously had the virus and recovered, due to having every main symptom going at the end of last year, which then resulted in me being very ill for around 7 days.
As it was Common Cold/Flu season i just dealt with it at home though, as we always do, without any need for bothering a doctor.

Survived another day so should finish painting the garden fence today. Should have been setting of on Sunday for a week of touring Scotland. Big change in the weather with Arctic conditions being forecast so that lessons the pain of not going a bit.

I had the Flu once--back in 1968 and it knocked hell out of me, never had that type of flu ever again, had colds and chest infections since, but never anything like that Flu.

Glad you're ok mate.

Any idea why bikes aren't allowed? I don't have any other transport and I live in the arse-end of nowhere when it comes to testing (a friend of mine was told she would have to travel 2 hours to get tested), so if I did need to get tested the fazer's my only choice.
