FZS600 Fazer / Re: New front end
« on: 17 February 2017, 06:00:29 pm »
Looks great you did that quick! Did you use aluminium plate to make the clock mount? I agree with celticdog, definitely not a fan of the red even the levers and that but it's your bike! Black definitely suits the naked look well especially with that black screen and bars.

No worries glad it's helpful. I don't have the exact link but this is the same as the one I bought. Works better with an 8 inch round headlight rather than a 7, there's less of a gap between the headlight and screen that way and beefs the front out a bit. They come in solid black too.

FZS600 Fazer / Re: New front end

You're on the right path, I loved my Fazer naked conversion made the bike unique and in my opinion looked great. I would personally stick with the single headlight, the dual ones are awful for actual light output (worse than unmodified stock) and keep tinkering until you're happy. It's a slow process, definitely worth it in the end! Here's a couple of pics of my Fazer before I sold it, I try not to look at the pics too much because I actually miss it quite a bit and will never be able to have another like it. Far better made bike than the TL I have now, much better manners but not as fun or characterful. On most roads, not even any slower either. Track, probably a different story.

I managed to keep the original clocks, made a bracket out of some aluminium sheet I got for about £5. Used cardboard to make some prototypes then went for it in the aluminium and with some trial and error got it pretty decent 2nd try. Used some rubber trim for the edging. I think there's a pre drilled hole in the top fork clamp that I used, it's for a ring clamp securing the speedo cable and some other wires. I then drilled and tapped a thread on the opposite side and used that to mount the clock bracket to the underside of the top fork clamps. I will check, but I think I threw away that bracket unfortunately when I reverted the bike back to standard. I also sawed off the top speedo stud flush and removed the rear plastic to paint it black and refitted it so it's not as visible. I covered the lot with the puig dark smoke screen, hid a lot and was actually decent at stopping wind too. The loom wrap needs chopping down quite a bit, this makes it easier to sort out and tidy it all up.

For Sale & Wanted / TL1000S For Sale (Soon)
« on: 19 June 2016, 05:07:54 pm »
Testing the water with this. I'm off to Scotland next month and plan to sell my TL when I return. It has covered 31,500 miles (will go up), just been fully serviced including valve clearances and just passed its MOT last week. New tyres, new chain and sprocket. I have spent quite a bit as I thought this bike was going to be the bike that revitalised biking for me, but I just don't want to ride any more unfortunately. It is an excellent bike and sounds incredible. They are not the devil bike they are made out to be, the handling for me at 13 and a bit stone is brilliant and the torque is awesome. Looking for £2000, if anyone here is interested or you know anyone who might be please let me know with a PM and I will give you more info. Will be coming back from scotland on July 22, so plenty of summer left to enjoy it.

For Sale & Wanted / Mivv Stainless Steel Exhaust For Sale (Fzs 600)
« on: 19 June 2016, 04:52:47 pm »
This has been in my garage for quite a while as I keep forgetting to post an advert to sell. Sounds excellent, quality product I have modified the baffle so it is fully removable as they are riveted from the factory. Baffle in is how I had it, nice tone and not too mad. Baffle out is mental, very deep rumble and people certainly hear you coming! Very good condition, barely had it on the bike a year then sold my Fazer. Looking for £120 posted. Please PM me for any details!  :)

General / Re: what did you do with your fazer today ?
« on: 28 February 2016, 08:51:44 pm »

More grunt than a rutting sperm whale! Has it got the daft (in this installation) rotary damper removed and a decent replacement shock/damper installed? Ive always fancied one of these, the bike that made Hoss Elm eat his hat when it made more power than a 916.

Grunt is most definitely the correct word! No it doesn't have the rotary damper thankfully as I heard that is what gave them their dodgy handling reputation, it has a hagon shock installed with the stock spring and to me it feels brilliant. You can get an ohlins unit which does the same thing, or remove the original spring all together and fit a bitubo unit which is a new spring and shock combo I believe. To be honest, the handling is excellent so far so I will stick with the hagon. I would truly recommend this bike, everything I read about them was a bit off putting but actually riding and now owning one you make your own opinion and my opinion is it's an excellent and extremely fun bike. The sound alone is phenomenal, cant help smiling like a mug every time I blip the throttle or give it some beans. At legal speeds there's so much torque you can just float along in top gear and roll on overtake when you like. Hold on and give it some proper throttle and it really does go! I would say though, the twin power delivery does take some getting used to after my Fazer. There's no sudden woosh of power, it's just a constant linear wave which has you looking at the speedo going "wow really?!". I think a well sorted FZS 1000 would probably have it in a drag race, it would be close. It doesn't feel LOADS quicker than my Fazer 6 top end wise but off the line it utterly shunts you and would leave the Fazer standing, no contest for roll on in top either. In normal riding, I actually managed 100 miles on £10 before the light came on as well (though does utterly tan through fuel if you are hooning it)! The one thing it trumps the Fazers on for me is fun factor and character. Yes, a Fazer 1000 is probably a better bike all round and depending on the track maybe quicker. But the TL is the kind of bike you get off after every ride with a huge grin which for me is what biking is about!

Part exchanged it. Actually felt quite sad. It was a brilliant bike that I have enjoyed owning and working on for 3 1/2 years. Still, I get to play on this now and I think I love it already  :)

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Standard Exhaust Muffler Gasket
« on: 12 February 2016, 07:26:02 pm »
I knackered that one long ago, the metal mesh one. I think the one I have on now with my Mivv can is a graphite one but it was super tight getting it on so it most likely will break apart when I take the can off. Is the mesh one best with the standard exhaust then and will I need any silicone or anything to seal it in?

Does anyone know what is the best gasket to use for sealing the motad stainless downpipes and the original silencer please? Is it the wire mesh one or the weird graphite one? I'm pretty sure it needs one, never actually tried the original can on the stainless pipes before!

you doubt the wrong people then don't you.................................

Haha for some reason I imagined after you said that throwing a smoke bomb down, turning into a Raven and flying away into the night. But yeah cool, in that case please refer to the PM I sent you earlier.

Noggy, the black round headlight is what I currently have on my bike. It's larger than the chrome, more of a standard bandit / hornet size. There's a "chrome" rim to it, however I have found it can rust quite quickly if you aren;t careful. The light is as bright as the stock one on my Dads SV, the glass is decent enough. I can send you some close up pics tomorrow if you like but would be looking for £20 for it or £30 for the smaller chrome one.

As for what I may be getting, I'll leave that as a surprise for when I definitely get it  :)

Frosties I have replied to your PM. RMT I would need an old Fazer 600 caliper to replace the 1000 caliper on mine and seeing as you own a thou I doubt you have a 6 one for sale. So I can't sell you that unfortunately. The Mivv exhaust however I am looking for £120. Here's a pic.

As title, looking for a right hand fairing infill for a Boxeye 600 in decent condition and a cheap screen, preferably standard but not too fussed as long as it's black / smoked. Cheers.

General / Swift Cover Insurance

Myself or nobody I know has anything to do with this company, this is just an honest show of appreciation in a time where everyone seems to only review the bad. Had my car insurance renewal come through, I'm still in the "young silly money" bracket even for a cheap run about unfortunately and having a bike too I want it to be cheap as possible. So I was very disappointed to see my 1 year no claims had knocked off the grand total of ....£15! I rang up to cancel my renewal and give a hard time about how I've got £300 off elsewhere, but the guy was extremely helpful and actually agreed that was a poor renewal. He went through all my details again quickly and actually got me a better package than I had previously while also beating the best quote I had had elsewhere by almost £100. You can argue they were trying to pull a sly one with the automatic renewal yeah, but they gave me a month notice to shop around. It's definitely proven to me shopping around for the best quote and doing your research gives you the upper hand as a customer, but definitely can't fault the customer service I received at Swift Cover. Has inspired me to try harder on the bike insurance renewal, although that's not so bad.

Cheers for the info guys, it's interesting comparing it to the Fazer because I know they are totally different machines for different purposes but I have a feeling the majority would say the FZS is better as an all round bike. I don't think there's honestly many bikes out there still that do everything quite as well for the price, maybe a Z800 but they're quite expensive. The only thing the Fazer lacks in my opinion is character. I'm interested in the ZRX1200r, they look like a good compromise between the FZS and XJR as they aren't as heavy as an XJR and being water cooled produce noticeably more power for the size of the engine. I think they handle pretty well too, especially with suspension upgrades. They look so good as well, especially modded! If I ever upgrade, that will definitely be high up on my list.

How do they compare to the FZS 600? Having never ridden one, I can imagine handling is worse but that they're more comfortable? They only make about 98hp from more than two times the engine size, but obviously a lot more torque. Are they actually any quicker than a Fazer though, just thinking about all that extra bulk? Obviously top gear roll on is a no contest but normal 0-60 or 40-70 how close would it be?

No, Rossi didn't win the title because he got caught up in a personal battle with Marquez in the previous race. Honda saying he "kicked him off" is pathetic. He also got caught up in some weird battle with Lorenzo a few races back where they were playing a weird "who can stay out the longest on intermediates on a drying track" game that cost him as he finished 5th. He had to start from the back for his Marquez incident and Lorenzo had it easy. Lorenzo did a great qualifying and had the pace in free practice, but the Hondas had the pace at the end of the race and Marquez in my opinion didn't try and ended up getting in the way of his own team mate who hates Lorenzo and did try for the win. I'm not hating on Lorenzo, he did deserve the title in the end I'm just disappointed that Rossi had such a great season and couldn't have been allowed a straight up dog fight to decide the winner.

I think your point of view is level headed Phil and probably correct, but I am just saying it how I saw it personally yesterday and I was really annoyed at Rossi in the last race for what he did. I have come round full circle and am now actually against Marquez. Re-watch that race after hearing Rossi's point of view.

23
I wouldn't say Moto GP is predictable when compared to F1, I follow both closely and this years F1 season has been utterly dull with maybe 2 or 3 decent races. Moto GP this year with the exception of about 3 or 4 races has been outstanding. The race at Philip Island was the best I personally have seen since some of the great battles like Rossi vs Lorenzo at Catalunya in 2009 or Rossi battling Stoner. I haven't watched any of the old stuff, I only got into it in about 2008 when I was 15 but you can't really say that Moto GP has become predictable. Since I have been watching it there has been at least 2 top tier teams, so at least 4 riders able to fight it out for victory. Chuck in variable weather conditions and you bring more riders into play. This season, especially at the start, Ducati were starting to look fairly strong again and Suzuki did well considering their lack of power. F1 is literally Mercedes and then everyone else. I enjoyed F1 more last year for the first half of the season because Marquez winning everything bored me, but as it stands currently F1 is far more boring and predictable than Moto GP hence why F1 is in crisis and requiring a major overhaul.

24
I thought Rossi had lost the plot and the pressure was too much for him when he started bashing on Marquez being corrupt towards Lorenzo, but the more I re-watch the events in the final races I'm starting to wonder. Today has sealed it for me that Marquez deliberately denied Rossi. I watched the race and the whole time just thought, what is he doing he clearly has the pace to keep up why isn't he showing him a wheel like he usually does? The embarrassing point was at the end when Pedrosa quite blatantly showed Lorenzo was struggling for pace when he made up 2.5 seconds in the final few laps. He then passes Marquez with a great move who instantly has the pace to fight back at him and hold him at bay whilst his pal Lorenzo is off down the road a bit more. Feel sorry how it has ended, amazing season with some of the best racing I have ever seen. I would have been far less suspicious if Marquez had passed Lorenzo who would then have finished 2nd in the race but won the title with the more race wins. Either way, Rossi did all he could today and I'm glad that Yamaha have had a brilliant year throughout and hope Rossi can come back stronger in possibly his final season next year.

The A39 up near Porlock and Lynton are great for scenery and pretty decent roads, some really steep hills. You can go up to just past Minehead and take the A396 that goes through Exmoor and ends up at Tiverton that is a great road pretty technical. That was the last ride I did on my Fazer before I shut it away to try and sell, it was great.
