used this on one I did, great little unit.

Did you not connect the tachometer? Was that a problem?

I think mine could well end up like that.

FZS600 Fazer / Scrambler build
« on: 08 April 2018, 09:52:08 am »

I’ve decided to do something with my 2001 fazer. Just to keep me busy, give me a headache, and fill my brains with thoughts that I don’t have time for.

I’ve always liked the look of cafe racers, scramblers, Rat, and brat bikes. So, the plan is to build something lovely looking. I’m not much of a speed guy, I prefer to cruise.

I know a couple of guys on here have built scramblers (http://foc-u.co.uk/index.php/topic,23400.0.html) so I’d really like to chat about the process with then. I’m looking to put Continental TKC80’s, stick air pods on, scrambler seat, take off the front, etc.

This is something I’m going for...

Scrambler fazer

So the first question I’ve got is, what replacement for the dials have people done?

FZS600 Fazer / My Rat Fighter
« on: 26 November 2017, 02:20:39 pm »
Thought I’d start a thread for my fazer modification.

I’ve ridden my silver fazer around for a year and have decided to doing something with it. I want to shorten the seat, so it’s a single seat. Removing the rear pegs. Change the front to twin headlights with a small screen. Paint it all military green. So it looks like a streetfighter, chop, rat bike of some sort.

At the moment, I’ve jacked the rear by 25mm and removed the rear mudguard.

I want to changed the front next. Anyone done a good job of this with a picture?

Cheers guys.

Yeah, I watched your video in it. I'm thinking of chopping the tail off too. I really like the look of the wunderwaffe bike. Google it. There's a video on it too.

I went there and watched this... :) Like some kind of industrial rat / bobber creation.

Not particularly difficult to pull off the basic concept? Cutting the rear frame (solo seat + fitting might take some imaginative solution). Plus custom front end, once the OE front fairing has been removed. A standard FZS600 really would be a blank canvas for this - sweet project. :)

I think they call it a war bike. I was thinking matt black paint and a browny suede seat. 😆

if your having the entire bike painted by a pro (or even your mate in a shed with a compressor)
might aswell look into a modern twist of the original colour
red/burgundy - maybe a candy
silver - shimmer silver
black - - spend an entire weekend wetsanding and get it to a perfect reflection (its really not easy)
blue - there are some really nice metallics out there now (some say the blue ones are faster so go even faster with a better blue lol)

paint is expensive no matter what unless your doing a touchup - just make sure you buy a good 2k or you will regret it in the long run
once its painted and 'dry' keep putting it outside in the sun every chance you get it is suprising how soft paint really is for some time
so the UV and heat helps cure the paint

i have my eye on some paint from https://www.custompaintshop.co.uk  but im keeping which one to myself lol

I'm just trying to flick in a piece of fairing 'cause it had a crack and I filled it. I was tempted to matt black rat the lot, though.

FZS600 Fazer / Paint code?

Ok, I give up. Where can I find the paint code for my 2001 silver fazer?

...also, can anyone recommend a cheap place to buy it. Paint is pricey.

Ok. I've taken it apart. The spades are not broken like the link on the other website, but it didn't look right. I'd upload a pic if I knew how...

I know. I've put it on my Instagram. Can you guys tell me if it's knackered...
Any ideas how to fix it?

Has anyone taken the cover off a dead tps? Is it just a circuit board with a wiper arm or is there more going on in there?

Pretty much. I saw one that someone had repaired somewhere..... here it is
http:/ersionclub.proboards.com/thread/24080/tps

That was interesting. I'll have a look at that tonight. Worth a shot.

As my fazer is a carb model. How does this faulty TPS affect the bike? Will it make a difference to the handling? I think my carbs need ballancing, but I'm not sure it's related to the sensor.

Right. I tested the TPS with a multimeter as per Haynes manual and got nothing. Then I found this http://bikesandtravels.com/biker.aspx?ride=201

Seems interesting. Anybody know where I could buy a cheap TPS?

yep TPS on right hand side of the carbs
make sure it is all plugged in and contacts are clean (including under tank if there is another plug to the main loom)
i forget to plug mine in everytime i have the carbs off and think WTF for a second

Ahhh...

I have unplugged it, then. Ack it and it didn't make a difference. Maybe I'll check the other end tonight. And ideas of the cost of a new one?

what number does it go up to
- its a fault code warning

I can't remember off hand. Let me have a look tonight and I'll get back to you. Cheers

It moves from 0 to 3k then to idle, repeatedly.

FZS600 Fazer / Tachometer is nuts
« on: 29 August 2017, 09:55:05 am »
My speedo was broken, so I managed to fix that, but now my tachometer goes up, then down, then the correct reading. I understand this is tell me there's a fault, and I guess it's a fault with the sensor as I've replaced the speed sensor and that's now working fine.

I've got a multimeter. What should I be testing and looking out for on the rev counter sensor?

Any help or link to info would be appreciated.

« on: 05 April 2017, 01:17:10 pm »

FZS600 Fazer / Which tyre?
« on: 03 April 2017, 11:43:20 am »
Mornin.
I have a puncture on my front tyre. I've taken it off, to also repair that pesky speed sensor that's had the tags ripped off, and now I'm looking to replace the tyre.

Any of you guys ride repaired tyres or would you just replace the tyre?

I've got matching Bridgestone BT016's, would you buy like for like to match my existing rear or get something else? Any recommendations...

Many thanks.

FZS600 Fazer / Buying a 600 or 1000?
« on: 06 January 2015, 08:24:58 pm »
Hi guys. I'm looking at getting a fazer soon.  Is it worth saving up the extra and getting a 1000? Is it worth it? There's lots of cheap 600's to be had out there but few 1000's......

I'll give this a miss. I was going to swap for my Ducati 750ss here:

But think I'll just service mine and keep an eye out later on.
