Diesels and Lawnmowers (Bike racing n things) / Re: Guy Martin
« on: 06 October 2015, 12:57:52 pm »
If he hadn't been penalised he still wouldn't have won. Without the 30second penalty Guy would have had 2nd place and have lost out on 1st place by about 0.3 of a second...

I read a few reviews and watched interviews and stuff. Guy said himself before his last TT if he didn't win he was gonna pack in racing at the TT or at least have a year or 2 away from it.
He's still keen to take part at other events such as the Cookstown 100 as it's one of his favourite events of the year. He's said since his accident he will still race. He will just pick and choose what he does from now on so he can concentrate on work and other side projects he's not had time to do because of the racing.

Did you go to Mountainside Hairpin ?
I been to Oliver Mount a few times and went to that part of the circuit for the 1st time at Gold Cup.
The point before you cross over the bridge next to the little metal fence is as close as you could ever get without been sat on the back of the bike with them !
Awesome place !

Try a few track days, you don't have to be on the latest bikes to enjoy them, we were at Cadwell lapping an old CBX 1000 every other lap but he still had a good time (really big balls that lad) Just be honest with yourself re your ability and start in the slow group and work your way up and you get more confident.

That's been my plan for the last year !! Lol I'm only down the road from Cadwell, I need a little track bike and iv been looking religiously on ebay and preloved it's just finding one with in my low budget.  :/ haha

I seen your bro racing, and for first time round he was flying ! There was a lot of newcomers there last weekend and all smashing it !
I have drove around the mount a few times, never rode round though :( !
I'd love to get a sportsbike, pull some balls and skill from somewhere and go round the track!

What earphones do you all squeeze under your helmet?
I'm having trouble finding a pair that are comfortable and stay in me lug.
I had a pair ages ago but my missis lent them to her cousin who decided to lose them. Iv bought I few since but there just not the same :(
Iv been looking at the little headphones what you can stick inside your lid but I'm yet to find some what seem upto the job and aren't affected by wind noise..  But I guess wind noise is always gonna be a problem no matter how much you spend  ..

It didn't say on the trailer but I'm sure I've read Brad Pitt was producer as well as narrater. Apparently he's a big MotoGP fan.
Looks well good too.

Under achieving?  I think Guy Martin has pulled a win at every event this year except the TT..
William Dunlop isn't really upto much. I recon the Neils should replace him with Derek Mcgee .

You don't need to touch the tank at all to change the plugs.
Just go easy when doing it, try as much as possible to undo and tighten the plugs with your fingers, and keep the plugs upright, don't hang off them sideways with a socket and wrench or whatever you use.

Before undoing you should really use an air line or can of air and blow any crap away from around the plug area.

You'd be surprised how much shite gathers around the plugs over time and once you remove a plug the first place this said shite is going is downwards.
This is not good.
You don't want it in your engine so a good blast of air is always a plus.

When putting new plugs back in, tighten up as much as you can using fingers, to avoid cross threading, then idealy they should be torqued up to avoid under or over tightening which can cause all sorts of bad news.

Do not use any anti sieze (copper) grease or lube, it's not needed at all as the coating on the threads prevents corrosion, plus your torque settings will be totally wrong.

Sound. Cheers very much darrsi

The Haynes manual doesn't really seem to say much about how to do the job?? Or am I looking at the wrong bit? Lol ..
Never mind .. I have another look in the morning and see what happens :/

So this problem has returned?
The bike just started running OK and has been fine up til today and is worse than before.
I'm thinking of changing the spark plugs but left the trusty Haynes manual on camp and I'm on leave now :(
Is it possible to leave tank on and change plugs or is that just making the job awkward for myself and should take of the tank and other parts above the plugs.

.

What pisses me off most, however, is the total lack of concern of the driver for the bloke he nearly killed...  :2guns

The rider could have maybe done something but obviously sheer panic kicked in and he froze.

I thought the same about the lorry driver tho .. he didn't really seem to bothered about what he had done and after the initial crash stopped then proceeded to drive forwards regardless??

All in all tho, I recon that bloke needs to change those hideous looking shoes .. they are obviously pretty unlucky.

I don't think they would be interested at any price really, at least not the riders aiming to get in the showdown.  As Shakey said ,, money can't buy the championship ...

I think they should rethink the idea making it open to like the top 10 qualifiers or something. Give chance for the up and comers to show what they can do.

It was mentioned on here a few days ago.
I think they only did it as a one of in connection with the 50k prize chance ... which no one took :(

The race is also been broadcasted live on free view, channel 'Quest' ..
Is it gonna be on freeview from now on or are they just doing it for this 50k race ??

I think they will take this offer, even if they don't manage to well, with the Showdown rules the  top runners won't really risking to much .... :/
I've seen Shakey in the past suffer a bad start or suffer a slight mishap and battle his way through the pack to victory.
Will be good and make the race abit more interesting. . Although I hope it's just a one of never to be done again

Yeah I know there prone to scraping at relatively 'normal lean angles' anyway. Was just surprised when I did as I thought would have needed a bit more effort. Ha

I'v already watched your vids SGP. Lol awesome stuff !  you mentioned before about having a spare set of riser plates.  I looked at some on fleabay a few weeks ago .  I may be interested ..

I didn't want to be a nuisance starting another 'track day' posting so thought I'd restart this old topic ...
I wondered if anyone here had used these foot peg adjusters ^^^^ and if so they alright ?? I'm never to sure buying Chinese parts..

I found myself scraping the footpegs yesterday on 2 occasions the 1st time just messing about going round some roundabouts on an industrial estate. I wasn't aiming to get my knee down or anything, more just messing about passing half an hour on a long detour home.
2nd time giving it a bit to much and in a crash or close your eyes and give it some beans moment... :/

Iv been looking at Kebabs R6 rear shock mod which will help pick up the back end which is needed but that won't be til winter time really ..

When I was 12 my Dad got me a Honda CD175. I can remember the 1st time I took it  out my mum and dad was with me down the fields and I went over the handle bars at some speed. Dad made me do 3 laps of the field before he took me to hospital with blood all down me. Nothing serious tho.
Then I had a Kawasaki KE185 at 13 to 14 .. it was a right beast but I sold it and bought a guitar. Biggest regret ever. I had 4 lessons and give it up. Lol
I been into bikes ever since but couldn't afford my test til last year at 28 and got the Fazer.
Definitely won't be giving that up for a little craze!
