Quite recently my gears are becoming a bit temperamental. Getting into 1st can be quite hard (have to press hard) then when I accelerate I find it hard to get it into 2nd and sometimes it just slips into Neutral. And at times when that happens it gets a bit stuck and then it's really hard to get it back into any gear! (All higher gear seem to be fine)
I had a skim through some searches on Foc U but can't really find anything relevant.... I was thinking it could be the chain is too slack (which I think it is a little bit on the loosey side so Im going to give it a tighten today). Are there any other suggestions of what I could do whilst I get my hands dirty?
Cheers!
Nick

This could be a gear selector issue unfortunately, which I've had myself along with a few others, do a search and you'll see a lot of info on it.
But for starters I would certainly adjust the clutch cable properly, bottom and top ends, and see if it helps at all.

Second gear's a bit of a weak spot on the Fazer.
It can be difficult to get it to engage cleanly and tends to drop out under power which obviously does it no good. If you catch it early enough, changing the drum and selector forks will restore normal operation. Deefer gave an excellent write-up on the job here (http://foc-u.co.uk/index.php?topic=13101).
When I changed mine (http://foc-u.co.uk/index.php?topic=13507) I found there is another problem related to the escapement mechanism (rocking hook thing) on the shift shaft. While you still have to get the clutch out of the way it's an easier job than getting new selector forks in.

Thanks for the replies! God I'm a bit of a newbie when it come's to mechanics! I was hoping it would be a bit simpler than that :eek I'd love to learn though but this is a bit over my head....... Does anyone know of a trustworthy mechanic or someone with a bit of experience who can help me in London (West)?

Bring it up the A1 to Huntingdon and I'll do it for you, I have done dozens of gear selector changes now.
