General / Heating/Plumbing question
« on: 12 November 2015, 06:45:34 pm »
Are there any heat/plumbing engineers here?
I'm going on holiday over the Christmas period and I wondered what was the best setting for my heating in case it turns cold and pipes freeze. I have a high efficiency boiler and will be away for around 10 days.
My current thinking is to turn it to lowest setting and leave it to run 24/7.

Any advice would be welcome,
Cheers.

General / What is the best thing about polling day?
« on: 07 May 2015, 06:43:34 pm »
It means you don't have to listen to the Foccers till tomorrow!

Expect a bag of worms to be opened tomorrow, we shall have to listen to some Foc, promises, broken promises. Whoever you voted for, please remember that they  are all full of shit and will say or do anything for a vote.

PS: I used to be cynical, now I just don't give a shit!

I know this will vary greatly from region to region, but roughly what kind of money should I expect to pay for a very good, fuel efficient boiler to be supplied and fitted?

Why is there so much diesel on the roads in wet conditions?

It scares the life out of me, but just how dangerous is it?

Is it just local or do you guys get it too?

Diesels and Lawnmowers (Bike racing n things) / Moto GP
« on: 13 July 2013, 05:38:24 pm »
I have been wondering for a while... These guys hang their legs off on braking. Now I understand that they do it  to change the balance of the bike as much or more than the "air brake" effect. But on right handers with the right leg hanging how do they, or indeed do they use the rear brake?

Is it hand operated? Is a balance shift more than enough to compensate for not using it at all?

Thoughts and ideas appreciated!

General / Speed Camera Van
« on: 31 May 2013, 05:42:11 pm »
Yesterday I was going round a roundabout. Real nice one btw, nice camber on the road etc... That's beside the point tho lol.

Anyway, the exit before mine has two lanes but only their outside one has to stop, I have right of way on what becomes the outside lane. 30 limit but traffic always coming up the inside. About 50 or so yards away the speed limit changes to 50.

I'm concentrating on the turn, the traffic on the inside and give the throttle a little tickle. So doing 48 in the 30 zone just before the 50 zone begins.

Then I notice on the opposite pavement a police camera van pointing the other way, but obviously the cam out the back looking my way.

Yes I'm in the wrong, no question. Question is can they, or are they likely to have snapped me as I'm riding away from them?

Never had a ticket before and don't want one now!

Cheers for any replies.

General / Riding 2 up
« on: 26 February 2013, 08:37:15 pm »
Hi, I have never had a pillion passenger, but that may be about to change, and to be quite honest about it I'm quite worried about it.

From even the simplest things like mounting/dismounting, cornering (both at normal road speeds and in slow corners and tight turns and roundabouts), being stopped etc... I guess straight lines won't be a problem tho lol.

Obviously I'll be careful, but am I worrying too much? How is it to ride with a pillion? And do you guys have any hints or tips to help?

Cheers in advance for even the most simple and obvious sounding hints, they will all be appreciated!

General / Lambs... no seriously... lambs
« on: 07 February 2013, 05:47:30 pm »
At this time of year I'm always on the lookout for the first lambs and daffodils of the year. Kind of a reassurance that spring isn't too far away.

Today I saw the first few lambs. No daffodils yet.

Anyone else look for (or have seen) the first signs of spring?

General / Easy one for you guys... Chain oiling!

So, not having a centre stand, involves moving the bike back, oil, move back.... Repeat.

Is there an easier way?

General / An odd obversation
« on: 17 May 2012, 09:05:27 pm »
Hi, so I left the Fazer in for a service (gonna be a sore one). Two tyres, chain and sprockets and front pads at least :(

They offered me a Deauville or a Honda PCX. I wanted the smallest one so took the PCX. Nice little bike I gotta say. Got that engine cut out at traffic lights thing too, economical.

Anyway, leaving my local town in a 30 zone past the local high school and sitting around 30-35 two cars passed me.

Now I do tend to stick quite close speed limits in the 30, 40 and 50 zones even on the Fazer but that is the first time I have been passed here. Is it because I was riding a scooter?

NW 200 is coming up in a few weeks. One of the best race meets on the calendar.

Any of you guys coming over for that?

Any of you plan to ride the North Antrim Coast road?

If so... I hope you enjoy our hospitality! And have a great visit to our little country!

Hi all,

Just rode the Antrim Coast road on my FZ6 S2. As usual a stunning ride. Prob close to 200 miles, and I am sore. Suffer from tennis elbow, so elbows and forearms are painful, as well as butt, lower back and thighs. (guess I'm getting old

General / Fuel Strike?
« on: 28 March 2012, 06:01:10 pm »
Is there going to be a fuel strike? I just heard that David Cameron has advised people to fill their tanks. Does he not know that, thanks to his and previous governments taxes, we can't feckin afford to shell out a hundred quid  to fill our tanks???

« on: 19 February 2012, 05:25:18 pm »
Hi, I don't tend to push my fazer too hard, but sometimes like to get the revs up. Just for fun.

I wondered if it does the bike any harm to operate at high revs?

Thanks in advance for any tips. :)
