FZS600 Fazer / Re: Grip Glue Melting!
« on: 28 July 2016, 05:40:20 pm »

Tried double sided carpet tape (with a spot of petrol to allow the grip to slide on before it evaporates and sticks to tape) - didn't work once hot.
Gave up at that point and used a two part epoxy glue - that worked! Just hope I don't ever have to replace the heated grips though...

Unless you fancy cutting them off!

Thanks guys, will give the Evostik a bash  :thumbup

FZS600 Fazer / Grip Glue Melting!
« on: 28 July 2016, 11:08:57 am »
I fitted new Oxford heated grips during the winter and they're ace; nice and toasty and controllable when they get too hot; think they're a great product.

HOWEVER,  riding home form work t'other day it was a bit nippy up here in Edinburgh so stuck the grips on and after about five minutes the left hand grip was loose so obviously the heat had melted the Renthal grip glue.  :eek

Switched the grips off and they were cool and solid by the time I got home, but it's pretty disconcerting and could be bloody frightening if it happened to the throttle hand!

Anyone else had this and what have you done to solve it.  Tried superglue but the same thing happened; as did hairspray....

Thanks in advance!

BT023's for me, but considering a change to PR3s to see what they're like.

No complaints for the Bridgestones though

Thanks guys,

Had a clean; used pretty much a whole can of GT85 and destroyed a toothbrush but managed to clean the whole chunk ok crap out of it and got the plunger moving again so all good.

I now know to keep an eye on it and make sure it doesn't get clogged up.

Pretty stupid place to put it; directly in line of fire of all the fling from the chain.... and bloody difficult to get to!

FZS600 Fazer / Clutch / Neutral Switch?? Bike's Cutting out!
« on: 27 June 2016, 10:46:01 am »
Hi all,

Took bike out this morning after riding it home from it's MOT pass on Friday and it cuts out every time I put it in gear.

Sidestand up or down didn't matter, clutch switch apparently not working as it won't stay running with the clutch in.

Neutral light on when in neutral which makes me think the N switch is ok but as soon as I knock it into gear the bike dies.

Didn't have time to investigate as I had to get to work so thought I'd ask you lot so I can go home tonight and have a look.

Any help will be hugely appreciated

New SBS sintered pads and brake fluid change.

Feels like a new bike again; pads probably not totally bedded in yet but impressed with their bite and feel so far!

I agree, fitted a DB and the buffeting and noise is awful so am looking for a taller one; think I'll try the Skidmarx one....

Balanced carbs; easier than I thought it was going to be, and the Morgan carbtune is ace!
Wish I hadn't bothered with buying a remote fuel tank, much easier to just turn the bike's tank around!

Went over her with a torque wrench; exhaust header bolts a bit loose, as were the clamp bolts.... Funnily enough she's running much better today!

All set for a run to Arran tomorrow  :D

Fitted heated grips and finally got round to wiring the sat-nav off a switched live so no more flat battery for me when I leave the Garmin in the mount!

Have you considered drilling another hole in the handlebars to fit the notch in the original switchgear on, you would just need to drill it same diameter inline with the original hole to suit the lenght of the hotgrip.

Yeah was thinking that slappy, it won't reduce the strength of the bars too much would it?

And I'll still have an overhang on the throttle tube; anyone know where you can get 125mm throttle tubes?

While we're on the subject, i fitted these heated grips to my bike a few months ago and they are THE best ones i've ever used by far.
Stupidly warm, with about 5 settings, and so far i've never gone past the 3rd setting 'cos they're so bloody hot, even with winter gloves on.

100% recommended, and a bargain too.  :thumbup

These look identical to the R&G ones; copies or rebranded?

That's exactly why I bought the R&Gs darrsi but with this length issue, I might have to swap them for the Oxfords, although it'd be cheaper to get Renthals if I can't return the R&G! What bars are you and infiniteloop running?
Just spoke to R&G who said I could maybe take 5mm off, but they'd still be overhanging the bar by 5mm.  :'(

Yes I do....?
And as they are, they'll compress against the new grip....

FZS600 Fazer / Heateg Grips too long!
« on: 04 December 2015, 03:35:06 pm »
Hi all,

Currently fitting some R&G Heated grips to my '02 foxeye to get me through the winter up here...

While checking all the bits for fit and size noticed the R&G grips are a full 10mm longer than the existing grips (125mm vs 115mm as standard).  I'm kinda nervous about chopping this amount off the grip for fear of cutting through the heating element; and the controls won't go inboard due to the notches on the bars so has anyone got any advice so get by this issue?

Has anyone come across this before?

Have the standard bars fitted which I like so wasn't wanting to have to get Renthals or similar just to get warm hands.

Cheers

Changed the fork oil to 15w and what a difference!

Had them recently serviced with new seals etc, and went with the recommended 10w oil; but after a summer bottoming out the forks all over Edinburgh's dreadful streets, I'd had enough which prompted the change.

After a quick ride tonight I'm pretty sure it's made a pretty big difference, and the bike definitely feels more controlled and planted, without the bottoming-out I'd been experiencing before

Highly recommend it if you haven't done it already!

I normally get over 200, refill at fuel light on around 190... and I've never had to put more than 18l into my '02 Foxeye

I had this a couple of years ago - drove me mental! :'(

Turned out to be corrosion and gunk in the main multi-pin connector inside the left-hand fairing.

Open it up and try and clean the pins as much as you can and it should solve it.

Hi, has anyone used the tall screen from Wemoto? http://www.wemoto.com/bikes/yamaha/fzs_600_fazer_sp/02-03/picture/screen_-_flip_up_-_tall/ for a foxeye?

Still looking for that perfect screen...

I had a similar problem; as soon as I indicated or went to full beam the clocks went off...

Found out it was corrosion on the main multi-pin connector on the LHS of fairing.  Take it apart and get a fine file / emery cloth and clean up all the connectors.

Hopefully that should sort the problem, it did for me!

I've got these; not cheap but they're genuine Yamaha and I think they look great.  Choice of finishes too...

RedThunder, I've fitted the official aftermarket Yamaha LED's to my foxeye; they're brighter and smaller than the originals, they come with resistors (although I fitted a relay instead) and you'll need some indy spacers to get them to fit the huge hole in the fairing!

Will add a photo in a couple of days if you want to see what they look like...

Thanks guys

How much power do you reckon I'd be losing with the can in this state?
About to do a 3-day trip round the top of Scotland and I don't want to be letting it get any worse!
