Job Sussed!

Detent spring snapped!

Rode into Wigan Yamaha after a quick phone call to them. They dropped what they were doing, took my bike into the workshop, diagnosed the problem, and repaired it on the spot without a question.

Superb after sales service, and great advice from falcon. Spot on!

Thanks for the replies gents.

Unfortunately it is happening solo, so not foot position
Related.

Also it isn't selecting other gears at times, box seems to have become a little noisier clutch out. Will ring dealers later an post what is said

Hi All.
So I've just been for a pootle back from Southport, gave a lad who works for me a lift home, been riding back, nothing silly as there has been a lot of traffic being evening. Into a slow, first gear left hander at the roundabout, go for second and CCCCRRRRUUUUNNCCCH.... Gear lever feels a little wooly, tries to go for second again, crunch, engage then jump out... Thinking it's me being a gonk, I go for first, it engages, into second and it engages then jumps out. Hmmmmm

Manage to get the gears to engage, riding along, pulling up to a set of lights and it jumps out of second. Gear lever feels like it's not returning from the up shift, and now feels VERY notchy altogether. The scenario has happened a few times now, where it is very notchy, and jumps out of second.

Fortunately, I bought the bike three weeks ago from a local Yam Dealer, and the bike has 3 months warranty.

Please could any of the more mechanically minded Foccers advise if this is a well known fault on the thou, I know the 600 was well known for jumping out of first if you gave it some welly, but I wonder if you could cast some light on the (endless) possibilities?

Cheers in advance for any advice offered.

Hi Jeff and Taksi..

I got a price from TST, spoke to Alex at Almaxx and he matched it.
The guy who works for Almaxx on the spanners is awesome, i wouldn't like anyone else working on my bike after using him.

Cheers for the heads up on National Tyres though.

And what about the Plastic Maggot. Most Londoners would know what they are having to jump outta the road whenever one was on a mission.

CX 500!! Or it's "Superior" the CX650......TURBO!

Made me smile this, as the first bike I threw me leg over was a C50, with fairing removed. I was 11 years old and forgot to shut off, I found out the importance of gloves and not wearing shorts on a 'ped/bike...

Instantly recognisables?

C50/70/90

RD 250/350 LC

RD125/200/250/400

Hardley Capables

Plastic Maggots (CX500)

Triumph Bonneville

Hi Sinbad!

On the topic of intercoms, as posted previously, don't scrimp on the cheap and cheerful ones you see on fleabay. Buy a well known brand, such as Autocom etc.. They have shot up massively in the last 3-4 years unfortunately.

It's worth the time also to really plan out the installation, both on the bike and in the helmet, as being 1/4" out with the earpieces can mean really bad results. Sometimes an MP3 player/ipod (which can be incorporated into intercom installations) will not like the vibration from a bike if you place it under the seat, and will stop playing.

If you are going to buy an intercom, I would reccomend chainspeed, as their after service and advice was superb.

Hope to have helped.

Stock rear shock for the time being, as I've just got the bike! Understood about the caster on the front, makes sense now :) . Maybe it's time to get everything measured and sorted back to standard ish, maybe even raise the rear a little.

We're not going to be Euro tourers, but a jaunt down to Devon and Cornwall could well be on the cards.

What is the standard length for dog bones please?

My bike has some shiny anodised things on, that have obviously replaced the originals. Reason for asking, want to use the bike for touring, with me, the missus and luggage, and dont want to bottom out.

Also, the front forks are through the yokes by about 25-30 mm, is this standard or has someone been lowering things?

Thanks in advance for any replies

Decent ride out yesterday, missus on the back, luggage on, and wet.

The PR3's really do inspire confidence in the wet, no sign of slips, trips or falls....

PR3's fitted... scrubbed in (ish) and wow!!! :eek

Straight away my bike felt much more stable, it actually didn't dance over white lines and pot holes, nor did it feel like it was going to fall off the side of a 40 storey building when tipping in to a corner...

Braking seems much more controlled, It's now a case of being able to feel the tyre gripping the road rather than praying it'll stop.

Progressiveness feels good, seems to roll over evenly rather than 10 degrees at a time then fall on its side.

Enough blether, needless to say that Metzelers will join Conti's on my "never to touch my rims again" list.

First impressions are very good, even compared to Roadsmarts.

I was hoping they ( Roadsmarts)  would be, but until the end of march, Michelin have a great offer where they are paying the fitting on PR3's

Total price paid for the two tyres fitted, £245, valve and balance included!

Bikes just gone in so I will be sure to let you know when I get her back and give them a try.

Had mine go on my old 600, it was when chain snapped and it took the clutch actuator out.
The seals are really cheap and easy to replace.

I had the clutch side casing split off as well at the time, so was able to gently remove the gear selector and prise the seal out.

It's not a big job, don't worry too much about it being a nightmare repair, it isn't! :thumbup

« on: 12 March 2012, 06:00:17 pm »
Not had too good a service from Swinton, we went with them last year, for car, bike and house.

They offered us some "goodies" Such as breakdown, yada, yada, yada... All good we thought....until.....

Got a phone call from me Sister that dad had died in Blackpool, jumped on the bike, got to Preston, going like stink and chain snapped. Was left there for 2 1/2 hours with all kinds of promises from Swinton that the breakdown was on the way. When I explained what was going on to the operator, she replied " You do realise there are other people who have broken down you know?" I pushed the 600 up the Hill at Tickled Trout, and coasted down the other side to the Petrol station, where they looked after the bike till I came back with the works van to shift it.

This year they tried to put the policies up by about £600 in total, the fat bloke who sings annoyingly got our business.....

Cheers for the reply..

I'm a bit of a tyre and brake snob unfortunately (either rightly or wrongly!  :D ), and unless I know the maker has a "pedigree" I would rather pay that bit extra, which sort of instills confidence in the product. If you get what I mean? Not decrying the Maxxis brand, and I know that they have been doing some big advertising, but I think that I would stick to a "known" brand for the mo, unless Luke has done amazingly well on them!

Thanks for the tip on the PR2's, I have had dunlops on the 6 for ages, and they have been pretty reliable, but I have read that the PR3's are real mileage monsters, so well worth paying the extra over the roadsmarts for.

Done to death, I know, but I have been running roadsmarts now for the last couple of years on an FZS 600.

Since picking the thou up, I have been a little wary of the square death Metzeler fitted to the front and rear of the bike. Previous owner looked after the thing, but must've had stabilisers on it....

I am contemplating changing the Metz to either Roadsmarts, or pushing the boat out and going to say maybe a pair of Pilot 3's...

Anyone had the chance to do any direct comparisons on these tyres? I'm seing some bargain prices for front and rear sets on fleabay for PR1's, but is the extra £80 justifiable?

The bike will be taking me, the missus, and some luggage to Scotland in May, so mainly A/M road cruising for the first 1500 miles or so..

Any advice greatfully received, or is there a tyre out there that just suits the 1000 that I am missing? I am not a GP hero, but do have my moments! :D

Provisionally sold to 110%..

The proceeds will go to Clatterbridge Hospital in Liverpool, which is mainly a Cancer and Childrens hospital.
