Small(er) number plates?

I've had the standard size number plate on for quite a while, but I'm thinking about fitting a smaller plate, maybe 7"X5", or 8"X6".  What do you reckon?  I've got the R&G tail tidy and I reckon a smaller plate would look great, but I know there might be issues with Mr. Plod. I'd appreciate your views and  any recommendations for UK suppliers of smaller plates?

I’ve been running a small plate of some sort for 30 odd years. Been stopped twice. Once just a warning, the second time I had to get some document signed by an mot station, to say I’d fitted a standard plate. Don’t chose an ultra small size, nowadays mine are one size down. Make sure you’ve got some sort of a reflector, gives plod one less thing to get you on.

Hardly any Mr Plod on the roads but personally I’d stick with standard size. Not really worth the aggro of being stopped for it in my opinion.

I've gone one size down from a standard plate, its an 8x6 I believe, and its great as the numbers/letters are still the correct size but with minimal space around them. Never had anyone say anything at either an MOT or side of the road.
Just don't go stupidly small and nobody will notice plus as others have said there's hardly any police about anyway 🤷‍♂️

May as well do what you like, I see at least one car every day without even displaying a number plate on the front

I used to have a smaller plate, but then i bought a louder end can and just didn't want to hand another offence on a plate to them (no pun intended) so put a legal sized one back on. I think it's something you kinda grow out of as well to be honest.

Any bike looks crap from behind with a plate the size of a plasterers hawk.

Ive had 8x6 for last 10 years and never been stopped for it, touch wood. I rekon if you got pulled for riding like a nobber or some other reason its more ammunition for them though. Ive got one now partly cause the standard size doesnt fit with a givi rack and a tail tidy.

I have a smaller plate and got stopped for it once.  It was a long time ago but I recall having to go to police station but I did not say why and they did not know so nothing happened.  I do have a full size in case MOT fails it which I think it did once, but then the smaller once goes on.


So as above, don't go so small that it is really obvious.
