For Sale & Wanted / TL1000S For Sale (Soon)
« on: 19 June 2016, 05:07:54 pm »
Testing the water with this. I'm off to Scotland next month and plan to sell my TL when I return. It has covered 31,500 miles (will go up), just been fully serviced including valve clearances and just passed its MOT last week. New tyres, new chain and sprocket. I have spent quite a bit as I thought this bike was going to be the bike that revitalised biking for me, but I just don't want to ride any more unfortunately. It is an excellent bike and sounds incredible. They are not the devil bike they are made out to be, the handling for me at 13 and a bit stone is brilliant and the torque is awesome. Looking for £2000, if anyone here is interested or you know anyone who might be please let me know with a PM and I will give you more info. Will be coming back from scotland on July 22, so plenty of summer left to enjoy it.

For Sale & Wanted / Mivv Stainless Steel Exhaust For Sale (Fzs 600)
« on: 19 June 2016, 04:52:47 pm »
This has been in my garage for quite a while as I keep forgetting to post an advert to sell. Sounds excellent, quality product I have modified the baffle so it is fully removable as they are riveted from the factory. Baffle in is how I had it, nice tone and not too mad. Baffle out is mental, very deep rumble and people certainly hear you coming! Very good condition, barely had it on the bike a year then sold my Fazer. Looking for £120 posted. Please PM me for any details!  :)

FZS600 Fazer / Standard Exhaust Muffler Gasket
« on: 11 February 2016, 07:45:40 pm »
Does anyone know what is the best gasket to use for sealing the motad stainless downpipes and the original silencer please? Is it the wire mesh one or the weird graphite one? I'm pretty sure it needs one, never actually tried the original can on the stainless pipes before!

As title, looking for a right hand fairing infill for a Boxeye 600 in decent condition and a cheap screen, preferably standard but not too fussed as long as it's black / smoked. Cheers.

General / Swift Cover Insurance
« on: 30 January 2016, 12:36:00 pm »
Myself or nobody I know has anything to do with this company, this is just an honest show of appreciation in a time where everyone seems to only review the bad. Had my car insurance renewal come through, I'm still in the "young silly money" bracket even for a cheap run about unfortunately and having a bike too I want it to be cheap as possible. So I was very disappointed to see my 1 year no claims had knocked off the grand total of ....£15! I rang up to cancel my renewal and give a hard time about how I've got £300 off elsewhere, but the guy was extremely helpful and actually agreed that was a poor renewal. He went through all my details again quickly and actually got me a better package than I had previously while also beating the best quote I had had elsewhere by almost £100. You can argue they were trying to pull a sly one with the automatic renewal yeah, but they gave me a month notice to shop around. It's definitely proven to me shopping around for the best quote and doing your research gives you the upper hand as a customer, but definitely can't fault the customer service I received at Swift Cover. Has inspired me to try harder on the bike insurance renewal, although that's not so bad.

For Sale & Wanted / FZS 600 Parts For Sale (Potentially)
« on: 23 September 2015, 08:50:22 pm »
Struggling (again) to sell my Fazer at the moment, so I have 3 options. Option 1 keep it and enjoy it some more and forever wonder what another motor cycle might be like. Option 2 sell it for £3.50 and a kinder egg toy as I am currently being offered. Or option 3 which is remove the good parts to sell seperately and return it to stock then either sell for cheap or part exchange at a dealer. I'm therefore testing the water of option 3 to see if anyone is interested in any of these parts. Please PM me with any questions:

Ohlins Rear Shock (Very Good condition)
Mivv Stainless Exhaust Can (Very good condition)
R6 Shock kit and dog bones (Barely Used, excellent condition, set for approx 14 stone rider)
Engraved Stainless Torque Arm (Very Good Condition)
Carbon Look Rear Hugger (Average Condition)
Stainless Rad Guard (Good / Average Condition)
7 Inch Round Headlight (Chrome style, good condition)
8 Inch Round Headlight (Black plastic, good condition)
4 Smoked Mini Indicators
Renthal Street fighter Bars (Silver)
K&N Air Filter (Used)
25MM Jack Up Kit

Also these parts that I would sell however would need your old original parts in exchange too:
Upgraded OEM forks including: K Tech Linear Springs, Gold Valve Emulators, 15W oil, Thundercat Preload Adjusters, Very good condition internal and external condition.
Custom Seat
FZS 1000 Rear Caliper

(All of the above are not currently for sale, but could be if I decide to go option 3 just to make that part clear again)

For Sale & Wanted / 2001 Fazer 600 For Sale
« on: 04 September 2015, 09:32:42 pm »
After just over 3 years ownership I have decided it's time to sell my trusty Fazer :( . It's an excellent bike, the best I've owned and ridden in my opinion. However I have a new job that is literally a 5 minute walk and a small van that I use for my band, so don't really NEED a bike currently and am struggling to find the time to ride with my other hobbies taking up a lot of my time. I don't have a garage and don't want to see it not ridden and rotting away under a sheet over winter. Also, if I am being honest, I have lost a bit of my interest in motorcycling  :( . I want to take a break for a bit, then get something new next spring that I can look forward to and try to relight the spark I have lost. I really enjoy working on bikes as well as riding, so I am going to get something in fairly stock form and plan to do it up. Anyway, the bike!

I have done loads to this bike over the time I've owned it, it was completely standard when bought and as you will see now has many great modifications. I still have most of the stock parts, so I am going to put two prices- £1490 with mods or £1100 with mods removed and reverted to as stock as I can. I can go into more detail on that if required. If I revert to stock, the mods will be available for sale separately.

2001 Silver Yamaha FZS 600 Fazer
31,637 Miles
Service History (Most done by myself, have kept docs of what was done. Good oil always used and changed every 4000 miles).
Excellent condition Metzeler z8 Interact tyres front and rear (covered approx 1500 miles).
All brake calipers cleaned and seals replaced with OEM seals. Plenty of life in pads.
FZS 1000 rear caliper, new OEM seals. Pads in good condition.
HEL Braided steel brake lines front and rear
Brand new OEM front mudguard fitted approx 1500 miles ago, old one in poor condition can also be included.
Carbon look Fender Extender.
Naked look 8 inch round headlight and stainless brackets
Smoked mini indicators front and rear
"Dark Smoke" Puig naked screen
Stainless "Fazer" Radiator Guard
Stainless Motad Downpipes
Silver Renthal "Street fighter" bars with OEM bar ends (good weight unlike crappy renthal bar ends)
Carbon effect headstock protector and speedo surround (looks like 2003 fazer clocks)
15mm Stainless Handle bar risers and straight clamps (more comfy, better looking, less back in your lap than standard)
Custom "Fazer" Seat, slightly raised (good for tall riders)
K&N Air Filter
Heavy Duty Chain(gold) and sprockets in good condition, slight surface rust.
Carbon look hugger from the folk legend Noggyfighter  :evil
"Fazer engraved" stainless rear torque arm
25mm Rear Jack Up Kit

Now the real tasty bits:
Ohlins Rear Shock
Mivv Stainless Oval Can (Baffles out LOUD!!! I have baffles in currently)
Front fork internals modified by our very own Kebab19 (Jeff, or the R6 shock guy as most probably know him).  This includes K-Tech linear springs, gold valve emulators, new Yamalube 15w oil and Yamaha Thundercat fork preload adjusters which look smart. All fork seals and bushes and one stanchion have also been replaced by myself for OEM parts, I have the receipts.

The bike handles exceptionally and is adjustable to personal taste. You can genuinely keep up with much sportier bikes in the twisties and it is also better when the road surface is bumpy / uneven mid corner - it's far less likely to be upset which improves safety. The brakes are excellent, the rear thou caliper really is great for carefully scrubbing off a bit of corner speed and of course looks tasty  :evil . Engine and gearbox are sweet, the usual bit of cam chain tick when cold at first but goes away completely when warm. Clutch is good and did fit brand new OEM clutch springs last year. Plates were in good condition. As for the naked look, I understand this isn't for everyone. I personally love muscle bikes so I think it looks ace, not too over the top or bodged like some others. The original fairing, headlight, bracket, indicators etc can also be included however some modifications were made to the wiring so may take a bit of "fixing" to get it all back together. The fairing is slightly damaged, it had an argument with a wall and lost hence the naked conversion. It is minor damage though. The bike has never been dropped or slid down the road since I have owned it. The overall condition is very good. I will honestly be sad to see it go. MOT expires May 2016. PM me for more details. I will be uploading pics tomorrow or Sunday after I have cleaned it properly.

FZS600 Fazer / Fender Extender
« on: 13 June 2015, 01:26:28 pm »
Just had a new front mudguard / fender arrive in post today, I want to refit my fender extender but don't really want to be drilling into a brand new mudguard as I believe that is the reason for the old mudguard to have huge cracks at the rear. Is there any one who has used some sort of glue / sealant instead and not had to drill holes? If so where can I buy some from?

General / New Bikes
« on: 22 May 2015, 11:07:10 pm »
Looking through bike magazine today (well pleased to see the mighty Fazer 600 in all its glory on the back page  :evil ) and the previous few issues, I've found a BIG niche in the market! Every manufacturer has pretty much designed the same bike but put their badge and some "characteristic touches" on it, except one... Harley Davidson have not made one of these "adventure on road with marginal off road with the correct tyres and B mode detuned sport engine with all the electronic whiz bangs do it all insert manufacturer badge here tourers" like every other manufacturer is making. I'm going to send them some design ideas immediately, this could be my biggest break since winning a fiver off my mate last year in our fantasy premier league. It must be big enough to crush the competition, definitely the characteristic V twin (no de-tune necessary), cheesy enough for the Americans to love it (yeee ha), all day comfortable, lovely sound, in your face head turning looks, plenty of luggage space and a ride plush enough to iron out the worst of Britain's lovely pot holed highway for all the British customers of which I suspect there could be many..... I'll keep you all posted when they hire me, here is an early prototype I just built this afternoon awaiting the stars and stripes on the tank. I can see this wiping the floor with the competition in next months bike magazine!

General / First Car - Have I been ripped off??
« on: 13 February 2015, 08:37:17 pm »

For anyone who CBA to read the whole thing - If a water pump is replaced on a diesel engine should / would the coolant also be replaced?? Also, are glow plugs part of regular servicing intervals?

Last weekend I picked up my first car (I know I know), well sort of van actually, it's a Renault Kangoo 1.5 DCI. I went for this because I needed something that can carry a full drum kit and bass rig and is cheap to buy, run and insure (I'm 22 and have no car claims bonus). The kangoo definitely ticked all the boxes. It's also really comfortable, has a lot of space (especially headroom) and it's quite fun to drive in a weird way. It has no creature comforts other than a cd player and a heater. It cost £950, has done 110k miles and has had the same owner since new. I bought it private sale from a genuine guy knowing it needed a service, that the cam belt hadn't been replaced for a long while and that the rear tyre was wearing pretty low.

I don't like to gamble with mechanical stuff so I booked it in to my local garage on Monday. They told me to get it there Thursday between 8am and 9am so I did.I agreed to have a full service done plus a cambelt and waterpump change. I also wanted the fanbelt doing as it was squealing on cold mornings. Al in this was £650.  I went past 4 times throughout the day, going to and from work then off to football and back at 7pm (garage was still open) and it hadn't moved once even though he said it would be done that afternoon... Odd I thought. Next day I went past and it was finally in the garage and on a ramp. They phoned while I was at work but I wasn't there to answer, this was at 12pm and I got home at about 4.30.  I'm wondering if they were trying to contact me about an issue but when they couldn't just went sort of went, ah sod it he wont notice and carried on anyway.

When I got the car home, I looked under the bonnet and there isn't a lot to see as most is covered but the coolant looked old and dark still, certainly not nice new fluorescent stuff. I thought that was a bit odd. Next, the fan belt squeal was still there on cold mornings but didn't last as long or as bad. I can't tell if the belt has been replaced, it may be one of the pulleys squealing so I'll have a look. Annoyingly though, a new light has now come on the dash which in the owners manual relates to either a glow plug or electrical issue warning. The car drives fine, but is hard to start when before I put it in the garage it was fine. Do you think something dodgy is going on or am I being paranoid? I don't know a lot about car servicing, especially diesel, but from looking online if changing the glow plugs and relay doesn't fix this issue then I am in a world of hurt chasing down umpteen electrical issues. Just plugging in Renaults computer diagnostic machine costs £90.... I really like this van so would love if anyone could help me out. My plan of action is to take it to a different garage locally, one a friend recommended and get him to do the glow plugs and relay and just give it a once over.

FZS600 Fazer / Possible Engine Sound
« on: 19 October 2014, 09:38:26 pm »
Went for a great ride today, however have been noticing another engine sound recently. Bike has slight cam chain ticking noise for first few minutes until warm, bit annoying but not too worried been told it's normal. I am now noticing however that in 1st and 2nd gear especially, when accelerating hard and putting the bike under load there is a knocking sound from the engine that always occurs at approximately 3500rpm. This is worrying me a bit, the performance is fine however and it never does it on deceleration only under load. It also doesn't do it in neutral when revving I don't think although I will try that again tomorrow holding it at 3.5k as I don't think I tested that properly. I don't think the noise occurs in 4th and above strangely at those revs and the bike pulls cleanly all the way through the revs. Might take it to a garage to have a look at, if it's something bad I might just rip the bike apart and sell it for parts because it seems every time I fix something it works great for about 2 months and then something else decides to break...

FZS600 Fazer / Got my first ever puncture :(
« on: 18 September 2014, 10:29:56 pm »
First ever puncture today in 6 years of riding, was gutted no idea where I picked up the big screw that caused it from. I try to keep off the middle of the roads where all the crap seems to collect so must have been very unlucky. Only riding my Fazer to work at the moment because my push bike is broken  :( . Still, my rear tyre was getting quite low anyway and I've got just over 6k out of it so not too bad I suppose. Going for another Metzeler Z8, great tyre best I have ever used and not too bad at £113 delivered. My garage will probably change it for free as well if I give them the loose wheel, did last time  :D .

General / Test Rides
« on: 24 August 2014, 08:19:19 pm »
I've only ever test ridden one bike I ever owned, my 125 so all the others were bought from research, reviews and sitting on the bike to test comfort etc. What is the actual procedure for test riding a motorbike? Is there a minimum age? I'm 22 so would that be frowned upon? Does it have to be on special days where specific test ride bikes are put out for the public to try? I'm just interested really, want to see once and for all if there is an itch that must be scratched but it's far too much of a gamble to do blind without a proper try first.

General / Mt-01 / Muscle Bikes
« on: 11 August 2014, 10:11:56 pm »
Didn't want to hijack Ogri's wanted thread but am genuinely quite interested in what riding one of these is like. Has anyone ever owned one or had a decent go? What are they like? I think they look and sound incredible, have the same horsepower as a 600 like I have but have torque that could rip up the road. From reviews, allegedly they handle pretty surprisingly decent too and are great for tall riders which sounds awesome. I can imagine motorways wouldn't be great, you probably can't take a pillion and fuel consumption would be terrible but as a unique fun bike they look awesome, just a shame I can't afford one.

I have always loved muscle bikes, I had a go on my mates GSX 1400 once in a fairly big car park and coming from a DT 125 and restricted GS 500 it felt like an utter goliath of power. The huge engine and beefiness of it, the way it rumbled at tick over were all just epic. My mate at the time could keep up with the GSX owner on his Hornet 600 though, so realistically is the extra price really worth it is what I find myself asking when I ever think about future upgrades of my Fazer.

Still, interested to find out more about the MT-01 though. Not at all interested in the MT 09 looks like a happy meal toy.

General / Wales : Round 2
« on: 04 July 2014, 03:37:24 pm »
After last years awesome tour of Wales with my Dad and brother we decided to return with some variations of last years route. Unfortunately this time my brother couldn't come as I couldn't get time off work in his school summer holiday so it was just myself and my Dad. But this trip was even better! My Dad got the tyre on his SV changed and his wheel balanced, so he was riding so much more confidently which was great. We covered about 850 miles or so in total I think and the roads were absolutely excellent and there wasn't a drop of rain. My personal favourite part of the trip is when we ended up doing a detour down some unclassified roads to a place called lake Vyrnwy which was absolutely stunning, really felt like a proper adventure as the roads were single track through moorland, forest and huge valleys and there was nobody around for miles. The lake itself was awesome too and the weather was fantastic. We also did the Llanberis pass and Snowdonia backwards to how we did it last year and I preferred it in this direction, was much better seeing the scenery and going up the pass with mount Snowdon on your right in my opinion and approaching into snowdonia you could see all of the mountains in the distance as you carved up some epic corners! Biking perfection so close to home, it really makes me want to explore further afield now and go to Europe and possibly further!

My bike felt amazing this trip, it was much more comfortable than last year and all of the work I have done to it has really paid off! Usually when I swap with my Dad and have a go on my SV I think "wow this is great" but this time I just thought I really want my Fazer back! Its trips like this that really make you realise that the Fazer 600 is such a superb little bike, plus with how mine now looks and feels I can finally say that I am finished with it at last! It was totally faultless the entire trip, handled excellent, was comfortable and I got very respectable mpg. I love the way you can just shove it in 6th for miles and miles and let it pull you through the bends with ease, its just glides along. Amazing. Here are some of the best pictures I took. This is also the first pictures of my newly Naked Fazer so I hope you all like the change as much as me:

General / Need help diagnosing a problem please
« on: 27 June 2014, 11:18:00 pm »
Hi guys, this is for an SV 650 hence why it is in the general. On Monday I am going to wales with my Dad on our bikes and his has in my opinion quite an annoying issue that will definitely detract from the trip for him. I told him a while back his rear tyre looks square and he has recently said he started to notice when cornering. He doesn't ride that often anymore and often when he does it is short journeys. He has bought a new one which arrived yesterday, but last time he replaced the tyre there was corrosion found in the beading on the wheel which the mechanic said would need to be looked at next tyre change. He is worried that getting this seen to and replaced could make the new tyre not sit properly and at worst it could lose pressure / blow due to the beading damage. So, he is going to keep the old fairly squared tyre on for the wales trip.

I had a go on it tonight to see what it feels like because it is one thing him explaining it and actually feeling for myself. It is noticeable, but not so bad. I discovered a separate issue however which is far worse in my opinion. The whole bike was juddering uncontrollably even in a straight line and even with the clutch pulled in. Its more noticeable at speed, he can't ride hundreds of miles like that never mind a square tyre. His wheel weight fell off recently, but he found it in the shed and glued it back on where it was originally. Surely it can't be that? It is a really quite noticeable judder, not a vibration a big judder. I am thinking possibly wheel bearings? I have ridden it before and it never felt like this and it has happened at a really unfortunate time. Any help greatly appreciated!

FZS600 Fazer / Front brake bleed issue
« on: 13 June 2014, 11:57:41 pm »
Got my calipers back today after having them refurbed with new seals etc, went to re fit them to the bike with new hel braided lines and there is a big problem. We can get fluid to the calipers, then the fluid coming out into the bleed nipple and pipe is nice and clean no air but there is absolutely no pressure whatsoever at the lever. This is so frustrating because it was the very last job I am doing on my fazer rebuild since my accident, this was meant to be the last easy piece in the puzzle.

My Dad fitted the brake lines, he put the yellow label at the top and the black rubber bit at the caliper end is this correct? Just ruling out anything strange we may have missed. We have tried priming them, bleeding them manually and also used a vacuum and it is all resulting in fluid entering calipers with minimal air bubbles or completely clean but absolutely no pressure at the lever. The fluid is not leaving the reservoir very quickly either. I am now thinking the master cylinder has somehow had it? Any help would be massively appreciated!

FZS600 Fazer / Screens
« on: 15 May 2014, 11:56:19 pm »
After my front end damage I need a new screen, I liked the look of my old standard one compared to a lot I have seen but am thinking this may be a good opportunity to try something else. Does anyone have any recommendations? The best one I ever saw was one that was a double bubble, but instead of having the huge bubble which I dont like it was standard shaped and had a small bubble just in the centre of the screen near the top. If anyone knows where I can get one of them that would be great thanks.

If anyone has any spare infills that they wouldn't mind selling that would be great. Looking for decent structural condition but don't mind if they need painting. I'm ideally looking for a cheap standard screen in good condition. Thanks

FZS600 Fazer / Oops
« on: 13 May 2014, 10:22:18 pm »
Unfortunately the inevitable has finally arrived and for the first time in almost 6 years of riding I had my first motorcycle accident today. It wasn't very big at all, I so nearly saved it too but it wasn't to be. Quick run down, riding along some NSL back lanes, it was a fairly tight section. Went to take a right hander, so started to move to the left of the road. All of a sudden, a large car comes belting around the corner and goes wide into my path making me have to swerve and stand the bike up mid corner. From this part, I don't remember a lot other than thinking crap crap crap. I started to brake, ended up on some utter shite gravel/ road debris, lost the front momentarily but let go of brakes and kept bike up somehow but didn't have time to brake hard enough again and ended up hitting a stone wall bridge at a 45 degree angle. I damn near ripped my knee out keeping the bike upright, then got it trapped between the bike and the wall. As painful as it was, it has saved 90% of my bike.

The front fairing is obliterated, really gutted about that. The headlight was also pretty damaged. I somehow lost the screen, literally vanished possibly into the river. Luckily I didn't come off the bike or drop it at all so it is literally just the impact damage that has messed stuff up. I could't turn the bars at first, they were stuck left as the fairing brackets were bent in the way so I bent them back so I could at least go straight and parked in a farmers driveway. I then took stock of the state of the bike and how the damage was. In fairness, it is literally all fine expect the front fairing / headlight and somehow the gear lever was bent. Everything else is completely fine thank God, forks are fine, radiator and engine fine, fuel tank fine no damage at all. I luckily had the tools to repair / strip it at the side of the road and the farmer let me chuck away the damaged bits. I just about got the salvageable parts into a bag / my hoody pocket under my jacket then carefully rode it home. It rode completely fine on the way home, as normal.

Unfortunately I didn't get the car drivers reg number and he did not stop, however it was also partly my fault for probably going a bit too fast. I am half disappointed it has happened, but also fairly glad in a way that it could have been a lot worse and myself and the bike are relatively unscathed. My knee is very painful but apparently it is just some ligament damage that will heal over time.

This has brought me to quite a large crossroads now. I have a spare fairing, but it has a small area of damage. I would need to buy another headlight, screen and infil panels to put the bike back on the road in standard trim. The rest I have salvaged.

Or

I could turn it into a naked, something I wanted to do a long time ago but either couldn't be bothered with the hassle or didn't see the point. One big thing I noticed riding home is the fairing and screen literally direct wind into my head because it was so much nicer without it, but naked 600's can either look awesome or utterly terrible.

Or

Take step 1 and repair back to standard, take off any bells and whistles, then sell the bike and bells and whistles separately and buy a different bike. I am leaning this way quite hard to be honest, which is a shame because I really like the bike but I ride it far too fast half the time as it is so fun and easy. But that's twice this year it has stung me, the front just gives up at a certain point and I think the car distracting me didn't help but I still could have possibly made the corner if I was more confident. I think I will now have lost a lot of confidence in this bike, even once repaired, so want something different. My knee pain that I was already suffering will be a lot worse now too as that's now both knees I have ruined through sport or bike antics. What do you guys think? It is a shame and unlucky in respects, but I hope to learn from my mistake.

FZS600 Fazer / Mivv Exhaust
« on: 07 May 2014, 08:53:15 pm »
I haven't seen another Fazer 600 with a Mivv exhaust can, so thought I would do a review on the experience of mine in case it is helpful to anyone. Skip to the bottom for the quick summary.

This is the first aftermarket exhaust can I have ever bought or owned on any of my bikes so I was quite unsure of what to actually get, I have always wanted one though and this is the first bike I've had that actually sounds pretty decent. I did a lot of research and shortlisted a few companies; Simmi Performance, SP Engineering, Pipe Werx and Mivv. I wanted an exhaust that was fairly standard looking, nothing too mental or stubby looking, but light with a nice sound without breaking the bank. I also wanted to be a bit different from the crowd so avoided delkevic, beowulf etc. My maximum was £200, for that I could have got a carbon Simmi can like Noggys which I think looks ace, a carbon SP, a few nice Pipe Werx cans in carbon / stainless or the most basic Mivv can in stainless only. Looking at all of them and reading reviews, I ended up going for the Mivv as I thought it looked really smart, it had great reviews and matched all my criteria. The fact they make OEM stuff for the likes of Aprillia and used to be the manufacturer of Honda's moto gp exhausts also filled me with confidence.

It took a long time to arrive, almost a month as it came from Italy. When I got it out of the box I was initially really impressed with the quality, however the so called "removable baffle" was held in by a rivet which was annoying as I wanted the easy option of baffle in or out. The instructions are awful, really badly translated from Italian to English and the diagrams are tiny. The gasket they provided was too small, the exhaust clamp was too big.... It was an utter ball ache to actually fit and took about 3 weeks (due partly to poor ebay postal service) to get the thing on properly.

Once on, I was a bit underwhelmed by the "baffle in" sound. It is a nicer tone than stock I guess but not really any louder. So out of curiosity I went to the trouble of drilling out the rivet that holds in the baffle and removing it. Wow, what a sound! On tick over it sounded really meaty, so I took it out on the road for a test. It was epic...for about 5 minutes. Then it started to really piss me off and I felt quite paranoid that everyone was probably looking at me thinking "look at that berk on that Fazer". It is sooooo bassy, the rumble actually reverberated in my helmet and made this really very annoying and distracting sound that I didn't like at all. Perhaps a different helmet with more ear padding would have been okay, I don't know. It is an absolute howitzer of a thing un-baffled tough thats for sure, however I do have to say that last Sunday riding with my dad on one of my favorite roads and giving it the beans un-baffled was probably the most exciting ride of my life. It did sound truly epic at 6000+ and I felt like a moto gp rider, but yeah day to day it is just absolutely ridiculous so I then had to go to the trouble of finding a small enough bolt and nut to fit in the rivet hole to hold the baffle in, which now makes it sound like a wet fart again... If there was some way I could get a middle ground, the thing would be perfect but I am pretty sure that isn't an option unfortunately.

So, to sum up.
Price - 8/10 For £200, you get a pretty big name brand and a top quality product once you can assemble it properly.
Looks - 9/10 In my opinion, it looks really classy without looking tacky or too dull. Just what I wanted. I really like the logo especially.
Sound Baffled - 6/10 Not worth upgrading from stock if you plan on keeping it baffled, or if you want the look of a sporty can probably worth saving about £80 and going for a Delk or Simmi
Sound Unbaffled 9/10 Absolutely monstrous, even on a fazer so can't imagine what it would be like on an R1 or Tuono or something. Not for me though, way too impractical for day to day use and makes you feel a bit of a plonker that's compensating for something.
Postage - 3/10 Took a month, though was tracked the whole way which was handy.
Instruction Manual and Assembly - 1/10 Instructions poor, diagram too small, most annoyingly supplied with WRONG PARTS?!?!

I am not sure if I can honestly say I would recommend this exhaust can, however I don't regret buying it either. Without trying a few out, I was unable to know what was good or not and took a gamble on this one. I do like it, if anyone knows a way to mod the baffle to make it a bit less quiet but not as MEGA as un-baffled I would be very grateful. My mates Beowulf sounded ace on his bandit and another friend had one on his hornet, neither were as raw as the Mivv un-baffled and still sounded good baffled. Don't look as good as the Mivv though, but I will go for one of them next time perhaps. Hope this helps.

FZS600 Fazer / Baffled by my Exhaust
« on: 09 April 2014, 07:37:54 pm »
Would normally feel quite smug about that pun but I'm too pissed off. Bought a Mivv can a few months back, have only recently attempted to fit it. It went on my standard downpipes just about with a graphite gasket which cracked trying to get it over the downpipe outlet, but it held and I bodged it on somehow but it wasn't a great seal at all. It then started to blow really bad along with the rest of my downpipes so I took it all off and fitted motads.

Motads went on a treat no issues there becoming a pro at getting downpipes on and off a Fazer now. Went to fit the Mivv can and broke the graphite gasket. Okay, a bit annoying but it was crap anyway so I chucked it. I then tried to fit it with my old OEM steel wool gasket which didnt work and ruined that gasket too. My Dad said the clamp was too big and I agreed, we measured the motad outlet at 43mm and the clamp is for 52-55mm?!?  :eek  Totally useless, completely tightened you can just pull it straight off the end of the link pipe what use is that?

Ordered a new steel wool gasket and a new clamp, a 47-51mm so that it would allow a little room for the gasket. Arrived today, went to fit and it just about went on but some gasket was poking out even with my best efforts to get it all in, did feel tight though so I was willing to sacrifice aesthetics for function. Started the bike and it was blowing badly from the link pipe and downpipe join... Took it off and tried again and the steel wool gasket fell to pieces in my hands, utter shite. Tightened the clamp up so much to try and make a good seal that I have crushed one of the spacing things. To top it all off, my petrol tank top bolt near the front has threaded for God knows what reason. I have spent more time and money this year trying to fix this bike than actually ride it. I'm getting sick of even looking at it, especially considering my heart isnt even in it sometimes and im considering other bikes.

I feel totally stuck and have no idea where to even go from here. I put the stock can back on with the remains of the steel wool gasket and it still blew. I cant even use that for the mot. I don't want to waste money on a 3rd gasket. I bought this exhaust months ago and have used a couple of times so I can't return it. I just feel like I want rid of this bike now and all of the bollocks I seem to be dealing with with it. I mean for foc sake putting an exhaust on should be an absolute piece of piss and its just getting ridiculous now. My MOT is next week, my Dad is going on about welding a ring on the end of the Motad but what is the point, nobody else has to do that. It should all just slip on, most link pipes don't even need gaskets. I am wondering if its the wrong link pipe, the side stand bung doesn't quite line up properly either, but I have no idea and just feel exasperated with it all now. Can only imagine that as soon as this is fixed something else will decide to flop off or go bang.  :(  Might rename myself Eeyore.

FZS600 Fazer / Clutch Noise?
« on: 16 March 2014, 10:05:26 pm »
Recently been hearing and feeling a bit of strange rumbling from the clutch on my bike when it is idling. It goes away if I pull in the clutch lever though. It makes the engine sound quite lumpy and can affect the tick over slightly, but as soon as I pull in the lever the engine sounds really smooth so its definitely the clutch. Is this normal or does it mean time for a new clutch? The clutch feels alright when being used, can be a bit weak feeling when pulling away in 1st but changing gear is mostly alright not quite as slick as some bikes ive ridden though and have to concentrate on the changes more.

I also removed the baffle on my new Mivv can today, its the first time ive ever had on aftermarket can on a bike and the difference was pretty huge. Baffle in was a nicer tone than standard but a bit quiet, so I took it out and it is so beefy sounding. Not obscenely loud, but still quite loud. I love the sound but am a bit worried about police and stuff...What is the actual penalty for getting pulled over for it im guessing a small fine? If you carry the baffle and put it in at the roadside would they let you off? Where I live the majority of people who own bikes that have aftermarket cans don't run them with the baffles in, some are far louder than mine is, so I'm assuming its fairly relaxed as long as you're careful. Bike still runs lovely anyway, no change whatsoever and I havent checked the plugs or anything but engine has no flat spots and performs exactly the same so that is a relief.

FZS600 Fazer / HEL Braided Lines
« on: 06 February 2014, 07:27:32 pm »
Really sorry if this has been covered before. I've never ordered braided lines before so was wondering what the difference was between the OEM kit and the "race" lines. From what I can tell, it is literally the price and most on the internet go for the race kit as it is "easier to bleed and cheaper". Sounds good to me. Also, what do you think would suit a silver bike best plain silver braided with blue banjo bolts or blue lines with stainless bolts?
