Are they not straight through as standard?  I thought the exup was in the can, rather than in the headers.

As far as I know, there is a catylitic convertor in the headers, another in the end can along with an exup valve.

I have just fitted a remus powercone so that loses 2 out of three.

It is easy to remove the cat in the headers, remove end can and if you shine a torch  down the hole you can see it, looks a bit like
a honeycomb. Just drill a lot of holes round the edge of it and then hit it a few times with a drift and most of it will come out. Then dremel the rough edges off and before you put end can back on start engine up to blow the crap out. I used a magnetic probe to get the bigger bits out first.
There are a couple of vids on youtube that show how it is done.

When I removed the cat in mine I never noticed any real  difference in noise level.

No,  soon after I did all my mods I had a custom fuel map done at a local place and got 143 bhp at rear wheel , don't know if removing the cat helped.
