Events, Meets, Ride outs etc / Boxing Day meet, Pied Bull Farningham A20
« on: 25 December 2016, 08:07:40 am »
To save my sanity over Christmas I escape to the Pied Bull at  A20 Farningham Boxing Day. Planning to go tomorrow, usually an interesting mix of bikes & peeps and I park at the top of the High Street on a garage forecourt with bars to prevent cars doing this when shut, but room for a bike, as the High St is usually packed solid. 8)

General / Fazer 8 stater relay
« on: 12 May 2016, 11:32:14 am »
Well the starter relay finally gave up the ghost on Sunday, fortunately when I had two strapping guys to bump start me all day as I was carrying out an IAM qualification lol, rather embarrassing :o
Ordered another on Monday morning from local Yamaha dealer, fortunately just had a call to say has arrived, but my son uses Fowlers in Bristol 01179770466, so gave them a call out of curiosity, they have them in stock and I could have received it by Tuesday, so I know where I will go next time.
Hoping Alex will fit it tonight, as I need the bike Saturday. He sadly has a poorly R6, but it is due for it's Summer holiday and the R1 (which was mine) will come out to play.

Fazer8 / FZ8 / Fazer 8 clutch problems???
« on: 04 May 2014, 09:30:23 am »
Found out last evening a friend who has the same model Fazer 8 as myself, bought with 900 miles on the clock last year has had the clutch disintegrate, causing a potential repair bill of £1300 still under warranty, but Yamaha say this is due to abuse.
Prior to buying the Fazer was riding a 600 1998 Bandit for years, lovingly cared for and in excellent condition with no mechanical problems, experienced rider, passed advanced training, so sympathetic to clutch and bike in general without being unprogressive.
Never heard of a Yamaha clutch doing this, had a Yamaha since 2000, did huge mileages on all of them without any problems apart from alternator failing on first R1 a week before warranty expired thankfully, so it was covered.
Would appreciate any help feed back on this please.

Ride Skills Day at Brands Hatch. What's this about?Simply put it is a 'taster' day for a number of different experiences, run at this World famous circuit by us, The Kent Fire & Rescue Service, the Fire Bike Team with assistance from The IAM, RoSPA and MSV (Motor Sport Vision). It is about offering Bikers the chance to experience differing aspects of biking that are all geared to make them safer/ more accomplished Riders on the road! There are 5 elements covered on the day: Basic First Aid for Bikers, Advanced Motorcycling Theory input, Slow speed control session, Observed Rides (tasters) with IAM and RoSPA Observers and 2 track sessions (novice level). All in one day and all for 50 quid!
It is NOT really for 'track day demons' or Advanced Standard riders, it is aimed at those who have never been on a track, who have never had advanced input or been a member of an Advanced group, we can and will cater for newer riders and the more nervous or those who just want to experience some of the above. Having said that if you are a bit of 'sporty' rider on the road and like speed then maybe you should also get yourself on the waiting list becasue we may be able to help you with some enlightenment!
I need to gauge interest for our first planned day which is to be in mid-April, we are then looking at further dates in June and July. If you would like to get your name down on the list and recieve more info please contact me directly on:
bikerdown@kent.fire-uk.org

Here you go. All the info for the ride that Ian starts on Saturday afternoon from Silverstone. Ian Sinclair a Racesafe Marshall for the BSB will be riding off from Silverstone on 30th September(BSB Weekend) and riding to 18 British race circuits over 14 days. Thats over 2,800 miles. Tracks to be visited are Rockingham, Cadwell, Mallory, Croft, Knockhill, Donnington, Snetterton, Blyton Park, Bedford, Goodwood, Thruxton, Castle Combe, Anglesey, Abingdon, Scarborough(Olivers Mount) a full 38 mile lap of Isle of Man TT circuit arriving back at Brands Hatch on the Friday 12th October ready for the end of season race. The Chris Jones riders fund has pushed the medical support at BSB events fowards from the tradition of a very basic emergency stablisation to a more holistic medical service. The xray machines means that riders with no fracture know this within minutes and if there is no other injury are able to ride in the next session. Previously, travelling to hospital and long waits in the emergency department took most of the day up meaning missing out qualifying or the race. The CJ Riders Fund also provides specialist physios at every BSB round, as well as all the medical equipment from neck braces to a plaster. Anyone wishing to sponsor Ian can go to http://www.cjridersfund.com and then to the events page where you can read more and then follow the link to the just giving page and the rest is up to you. http://www.justgiving.com/cjrfPleased to say all the team from RG Racing have donated over £200 alone. Plus a few riders from various series stock 600's 1000's 125's TTC have also helped raise money for Ian to go towards a great cause.

This ride is looking for support to join in for the last leg from Lydden race circuit, to make a grand entrance to Brands Hatch on Thursday 11th October, I am planning to ride from Lydden as soon as I know the leaving time will post to Group.

Introduction / Joined today- Kent based
« on: 06 September 2012, 08:42:09 am »
Been meaning to join for a while as had a Cat D 54 plate FZ1S for two years to take the load off my other bike and loved it so much I bought a 59 plate in July having sold the 54 as I was finding it a tad heavy, and the newer one is lighter and slightly lower, making life a bit easier.
HOWEVER, there is a big downside, as I was getting 55mpg with the 54 Fazer and the 03 R1, the new one only returns 40mpg :eek
Resigning myself to this as it is so much fun and I don't get stuck trying to heave it off it's side stand if I park on dodgy camber!
Fitted with a Nitron shock and had to change the spring to suit my weight, as it was set up for 96kg guy, doesn't tear my shoulders out on the twisties, so another bonus, plus a 190 rear, which I am used to on R1.
So all in all happy with the change and off to France this weekend to see if it copes with the luggage too as well as the other bikes, which both had/have Baglux tank covers.
Glad to have found this site :lol
