i have now managed to get the exup valve out,i have just purchased a good set of downpipes off ebay and all the bolt holes look good,i have some stainless bolts so they will be going on,the fun has only just bagan though as i do not think any of the exhaust to head nuts will come off so i will have to try and get my dremel on them,im annoyed as i missed out on a good exup valve for £30 with all the bits i need

well my exup valve is completly siezed, and someone has removed the pulley and locked it up with a nut as a spacer,i will also need a new cable as one of them is starting to frey, and to make things worse all the bolts on the exup valve have rotted away so it will be a grinder to remove, and all the nuts that hold the downpipes to the head are very rusty,it is a gauranteed case of brute force with some broken studs to boot, and the rear mount for the exhaust looks broke as well,so i think my best route is a replacement downpipes with exup valve, and i will need to remove the radiator to give some more space so loads of work, lucky i did not plan to put the bike back on the road now isnt it

to be honest most of the bearings can be bought from a local bearing supplier,i had a FJ1200 a few years a go which had vertical play and like some of your fazers had an advisory,i went to a local bearing supplier and i ordered in a sperical bearing which from yamaha was around £100,i sourced one for around £20 so a massive saving,ok it was not 100% the same but was close enough but the play was now not there any more

this what bike magazine sais about the FZ8 "if yamahas 130bhp,150mph FZ1can be likened to a rampaging wildebeest (and those who've ridden one will know it certainly can) then the FZ8 is his unlucky mate who's been tagged with a tranquilliser dart, staggered around for a bit and just managed to dislodge it before passing out, from the outside, the two animals look almost the same-they're an identical size with matching silouttes-but that instinctive snarl at its core has been tamed, and it's not quite as steady on its hind legs" and with a comparison against the honda hornet 60 bike said "if you want an 800,get a hornet 600" the FZ8 could not out accelerate a hornet 600 in the mid range the hornet being 180cc smaller in engine size

The 'air-flow is needed' argument is also false: If you take a stationary FZS600 and run the engine for 30 minutes guess what happens .... The radiator fan starts!!
And the fan draws in air to cool the water!
and that is the answer to my question, you need air flow to cool the engine,no air no cooling no matter where the air comes from

i wouldn't worry about the model, just be happy that you have the best colour combination in red bodywork, grey frame and silver engine. lush!
i wanted a red'n' but ended up with my black'n'.
this bike was the only one that was in my price range on ebay,so it was red or red

to be honest some of the new rules have been coming in over the last few years, most modern bikes have OBD diognostics anyway, but there is no set standard like there is on cars so that in its own is a good idea, but only for fault finding and fitting electrical assesories, the exhaust emisions is something that will go the same way as cars in that the bike could fail if the emmisions are high, but you could only test modern bikes as most older bikes will show a rich mixture at idle.why they are targeting bikes in the anti tamper rules i do not know, there was rumors that this was going to affect cars as well so you had to go to a garage to service your vehicle,in some cases this could be a good thing as there are a lot of cowboys out there, but it is not fair on the majority who know what they are doing,as to the older bike fitting a free flowing exhaust can be a good thing as most jap bikes run slightly rich anyway (bikes with carbs) so a race can actualy lowers the emisions so that is a good thing not that those in brussels see though.end of the day you should be free to do what you want to your vehicle as and when you want to

Just to keep this thread alive.....I know it has cooling fins but isn't it water cooled rather than air cooled??
technicaly the bike is both air and water cooled, you need air flow to cool the water in the radiator,no air flow and the engine will over heat

have you tried...
partfinder - 09060301572 partsearch - 0906 111 9999
for £1.50 they fax 100-200 breakers and then the breakers have the kit call you back.
the only problem is the poster is in spain,so a uk headlight will be no good for him as the beam will be the wrong way around
