For Sale & Wanted / my sorted 2004 gen one for sale
« on: 01 July 2021, 11:56:23 pm »
I havnt used my Fazer aside from a run down to Wales to see Dave (Dynspud) all year. Its partly my age i think. Im 62 now, and prefer the lazy ride of my evo 1340 fatboy, or grunting about on my xjr1300, which has become my everyday ride. So the fazer is up for grabs. Long term members will know how much ive cherished this bike in the three or four years ive owned it. its probably the best handling bike ive ever owned, courtesy of MCT suspension (refreshed by Darren last year) front and back (including K tech spring on rear shock.) its 2004, the best colours, and has covered i think 46k. Its Ivanised, and I fitted new Bridgestones just before laying it up at the end of last years summer. Exup valve is serviced and cleaned, with stainless bolts replacing the crap oe ones. comes with standard  and four degree advancer plate. MOT has about five months to go. Brake pads are nearly new, and either SBS or goldline EBC. it has a MRA screen thingy. it runs perfectly.  Comes with the Ti race can and original mint stocker. Two keys, and two fobs for the datatool alarm. oxford sports intelligent heated grips. it has faults, small, but faults nonetheless. the fairing inners have the usual mild cracks, but are solid. The ignition key has to be wiggled about a bit, but it always turns. Thats it i think.
Im not gonna fanny about with offers, instead just putting it up for a good price. As it is in the photo, but without the givi rack and with the original side handles re fitted, and without the topbox and handguards, £2000. Im servicing it this weekend or early next week (new plugs, filters and oil, carbs balanced) along with taking the bits off, so it'll be ready to go from the following weekend. Can deliver for an agreed price, and the rack etc will be up for sale seperately too. all the best paul

General / foccer font of knowledge - class 7 van mot
« on: 06 July 2020, 10:04:58 am »
Buggered if i know...
Apparently the covid MOT 6 month extension lasts right up to the end of this month. so any light van, car or motorcycle having an expiry date from now until the last day of july gets 6 months extension.
from aug 1st, they need to get another one pronto.
My Class 7, single rear wheel 3.5t mk7 transit MOT expires on the 28th of this month.
But, is it still classed as a light van, thereby giving me the six month extension?
if I enter the reg no in the government site (RJ09 VLK), it says MOT due on the 28th of this month. But does the site automatically put six months on if its eligible?
all help apprecited fellers... :)
ive googled it but all i can find is that it will update it if it is eligible 7 days before the expiry. Id kinda like to know asap though as i can start putting some dosh aside and doing extra jobs. old vans aint ever cheap come mot time.  :'(

General / splashing out...
« on: 21 May 2020, 01:06:25 pm »
me mate kelv now has 38 seventies bikes, following his latest acquisition, a '74 gt750. Another mate has a lowly ten. I do bits for both of them, generally carbs and electrics to get them running half right. As such, and bearing in mind two of my own bikes have a four-bank of carbs, Ive bought an utrasonic cleaner. 27 litre, with fluid de gassing. The best part of 600 sovs with extra concentrate. But it makes sense. And six hundred quid compared to the the 90k kelv has spent on a shed full of, well, sheds, seems pretty good value. With the bits I do for Kelv and Chris alone it should hopefully pay for itself before the end of summer

General / flogged me thou...
« on: 15 April 2020, 01:35:45 pm »
Well, being a self employed builder aint the best idea at the moment. Ive had to flog a bike to keep myself in running things money. good news is i flogged it too a rich mate, whos garaged it, not altered the log book and will give me a few months grace to buy it back once things are normal again. essentially, hes lent me two grand with my bike as security. I kept the xjr and the Harley as i use them both for me 'essential shopping runs'. you can only get so much in the xjr1300's tank bag, or the one the harleys rack, so most days i have to ride out twice. it keeps me sane and kinda takes the sting out of not having the fazer in the garage, so every cloud huh...

General / 3 things that make a relay look factory fitted
« on: 19 January 2020, 07:00:18 pm »
you probably know all these already. me, being a builder, did not
I only found out about five years ago you can get relays with built in fuse holders. bolt it somewhere to allow access to the fuse and it looks pukka... No more inline fuses flapping about. At roughly the same time I also found out you can get actual relay connection blocks, that look so much better than lots of naked spade connectors crimped to wires. Its easy to remove the tabs too, so you can swap them around depending on what colour tail you want to use for permanent live/switched feed etc. brilliant. Finally, last summer my bro in law showed me these luter connectors you can get. normally, I try to spline wires together then solder them then heat shrink over. These luter jobbies you just feed a wire in from either end so the bare strands are in the inbuilt solder band, then apply heat via a small nozzle on a hot air gun.dunno if the solder has a low melting point or summat, but it melts, bonds the wires, and then heat shrinks over the join. cleverly thought out too...one side has a slightly larger bore, meaning you can splice thicker cable to thinner, or if taking a spur off (as I did for a switched feed off the back light), you can feed two wires into the larger bore to meld into the single wire on the other side. all three things together make for a pro looking job that you aint gotta worry about. I still used a big heat shrink to contain all the wires and look neat, but its nice to know each individual joint underneath is both strong and watertight. And it looks factory, along with taking the worry outta leaving the grips on. took the xjr out today with both heated grips and underjacket and it was berluddy lovely. the trade off for three hours out on the bike was an hour to wash the salt off and drown it in fs365/wd40, but worth it.

« on: 18 January 2020, 08:38:03 pm »
spent the last two weeks building a long stone wall at my partners family home. took ages because of the bloody weather. as im a biker I decided to mix some bike bits in with the rock. so, cunningly concealed, you can just make out a high tech Harley belt pulley and one of those ktm front lights that look like a ladies growler...even if it is sideways...

General / new type (v8i) oxford controller issue half solved...
« on: 12 January 2020, 11:27:40 pm »
So , I bought some oxford premium heated grips off e bay, still new in the box. These are the ones that are normally 70 or 80 quid, with better connections, and the V8i controller, offering 9 presets. I would have just got the ordinary fifty quidintelligent grips, but got these for the same money (unwanted subscription gift apparently). Duly fitted them to the xjr. Went to set off , and they didn't work, kept going into battery saving mode (the green light just keeps flashing then it turns itself off).I had me garbing heated underjacket on so it wasn't a prob, and nipped into Wales to meet Dynspud at a biker café. Getting home late afternoon, I checked everything over. Installation and connections were all good. From the limitd information on oxfords website, it seems unless the battery never dips below 12.4 volts, they should stay on. It also seems a lot of people have had this problem. I duly checked my battery, 12.8 v non running, 14.5 running with the revs up. I was still trawling through the yank threads late afternoon, and found one that mentioned being able to disable the battery saving feature. this involves holding down the positive and negative buttons for five secomds until the green light goes out. Tried it and it works. So now got heated grips, but gonna have to rewire them through a relay. And I learnt summat, which is always a good thing...

pukka winter bike. I got it for the missus but she wants an electric pushbike now.
ebay link
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/264486474294
its an 03, Blue, liquid cooled fuel injected four stroke (does 80 with my sixteen stone on it) but the real beauty is it has only done 9500 miles an runs perfect. ten months mot, new battery, newish tyres, givi plate and top box, concealed immobiliser switch , in the forest of dean. its a fes pantheon, the predecessor to the silver wing. only had summat like four owners, but like I said ill put the details up proper tomorrow. been kept outside most of its life so looks grotty underneath but mechanically very sound. if I was still commuting to Bristol id honestly keep it for myself saving useing the thou, but I aint, and ive already got the three bikes.
theres another one just like it on ebay done over 40k and he wants 1100 lol. its on the bay for 650, but anybody here wants it ill knock a ton off

General / man down...
« on: 25 August 2019, 08:00:55 pm »

Me and Dave (Dynspud) had a bloody lovely day on the welsh mountain roads yesterday, him on his fazer, me on the xjr. Arranged to do it again today, but on the cruisers this time, and take a relaxed ride up to the reservoirs. This morning me and the gruppenfuhrer headed out to Chepstow then stopped for a coffee before heading deeper into wales, to meet Dave at the bike café just outside of Abergavenny. Thats when I got the text.."Had a big smash mate, bikes mullered. Sorry but cant make it.."
Couldn't get him on the phone(was tied up with the police and ambulance etc as it turned out) so we set of for Abergavenny, then tried again at the café. Finally got hold of him, and Dave being Dave, he said not to worry, he'd be fine etc, but we weren't having that so headed out to his gaff. Got there to find one very sore and rightly pissed off (think his bikes a write off ) feller.

Im so relieved my mate is ok but gutted for him. He fucking loved that bike to bits, and a two grand bike written off means fuck all to an insurance company, whilst at the same time an awful lot to us who run and look after them.
I know most of you dont know Dave, but hes one of lifes good uns, and a bloody good friend to have.
im just glad hes still here...
