the good news is , new bike, bad news is no red key
« on: 24 February 2019, 07:32:42 am »
so bought a 2009 plate fz6, great bike , very impressed by it, but in my ignorance was handed one key, black ! i had read somewhere about this red key but the seller said he wasnt given anything other than this key when he bought it , seemed non plussed about it ([private sale), after buying it i now am sweating as i now understand the full significance of it!!
im hoping someone can offer some ray of hope of any way to get a spare key or 3  cut ( that works :b ) without this red key ?

anybody ..... :'(

You can run the bike with just the black key, but the red one lets you code new keys if you ever have to get a replacement cut.
If you can't do that and you lose the black key, IIRC you need to replace the Immobiliser and ECU which is bloody expensive!

No way round, you need the red key to code new/replacement black keys.  Sometimes see for sale bikes that are being broken for parts, insurance write off etc,
with full lock set, ecu, all keys inc red one, but still expensive.

I have seen advertised somewhere a company that takes your ecu and programs new keys to it, not cheap and I think they were in Poland !!!!!!!.

Do not lose the one you have got.

Check with your local dealer. I think there is something they can do to help you out.
