300bhp and 115ft/lb of torque.

If you buy one you will be on first name terms with the Pirelli rep because of the amount of rear tyres you will shred.

The FZS runs slightly rich from the factory. No need to change the carb jets when adding either a K&N or a different end can. Just reset the TPS and balance the carbs properly to fully enjoy the (slight) increase in performance. The most apparent difference I found was in the mid-range where it just smoothed everything out nicely.

The damage you mentioned in the first post is probably heading towards £1000 at dealer rates. Add in the top box, brackets and rear cowling and your in the £1500-2000 category. I would suggest over 50% of the value of the bike now so makes it uneconomical for them.

Buy it back and fix it up yourself.

Unlikely that someone took the pipes off to change the filter before though so it will fit between the engine and downpipes.

regarding the two second rule bit, the BMW isn't a lot closer that your friend on the bike in front is to the car in front of him.

He's not actually stopping that close to your bike either. May be closer than you would like but it proves he knows where the front of his car is.

Too warm for carb icing

Damp cold mornings recently and this bike is restricted meaning it is a possibility still but unlikely given the symptoms described.

If it cuts out immediately when you put it in gear it is related to the side stand switch. The system is designed to stop you riding off with the stand down.
If it wont start in gear (with the side stand up) it is the clutch switch to look at.
If it wont turn over at all, check the kill switch.

If it loses power and dies then wont restart straight away (but turns over), try opening the fuel tank. If you get a hiss, check the breather pipes are not kinked under the tank. Another option could be carb icing so check the carb heaters.

« on: 25 September 2014, 12:09:28 pm »
I have one of these bikes but with considerably less mileage on it. Great bike and very similar to the FZS to ride (which is why I got mine).
54K is high but have a look on the CBF1000 forum. some have quite a few more miles than that on them. The only real weak point seems to be the alternator.
