just had a scan around fleabay and its suprising what you can pick up new including link pipe delkevic system including link for 130 quid
cant be a bad buy  surely (shouldnt have bought this pack of beers for the evening - would have been there in a few weeks)

i used some cheap JBweld "ish" exhaust repair putty i had laying around and i can say that didnt work
proper JBweld and really jamming it in will be the next plan untill i can afford a new aftermarket can and link pipe
(and if that dont work out comes the welder and vht paint)

i think you may have found the problem
just be carefull with the fuel pipe ,remove from the pump end not the carb end - that little T-piece seperator cost 35-40 quid if i remember correctly
i was a little shocked after it snapped on my hand and even more shocked when i saw the price.

cant really blow a gasket between 2and3 as the timing chain is in between so would have to blow twice
can you do a compression check (no dismantling needed)
start her up and let her idle and check downpipe temperatures to make sure its 2+3 (they will be cold)
after a while of just tickover try having a look at the spark plugs to see if they are wet
might just need a tin of fuel system cleaner ran through the tank cause it sounds like blocked idle jets to me
failing that its a carb cleanout time

badly fitted / too fine a thread / not enough threads on the original part number
a bit of all of the above

it looks like its only a few mm out between inlet centers 1&2 3&4 - prob close enough for the rubbers to allow the difference

i read earlier about sealed in ht leads to the coils
i cannot garruntee on the fazers but these often can be redone with a bit of time and patience
i did some on my gsx1100 chop build i just used a bradawl and a little screwdriver while sat in the garden watching youtube
just started picking out the epoxy that was holding in the ht leads then yanked it hard (then got back to working on coils)
once out i was able to clean up the surfaces with screwdriver scraping, inserted new HT's and a bit of epoxy, job done

i have some engines that come through my hands that are completly goosed so it is for more than just fazers but im on here everyday so i thought i would ask opinions
to give you an idea of how strange the engines get - i just finished rebuilding a fiat x1/9 gearbox using 3 knackered ones which was interesting as all from different years and were all slightly different (reason for rebuild was it wouldnt go into fifth because some dick fitted a four speed box)

FZS600 Fazer / shared carbs
« on: 26 June 2017, 12:11:18 pm »
anyone happen to know if the 2k boxeye shared its carbs with any other model - im looking at some k+n filters for a 99 fzr600 and they are pretty close to my sketchy dimensions (good verniers battery flat so using my cheap as fuck plastic ones which are no good for precise measurements)
- seen the price of the ones rubyracing used and found some cheaper ones which might work better for harmonic resonance if they fit

got to drill and tap (or rivet) under your swingarm im guessing on the leading edge of your sprocket
worth buying ??-  thats up to you as it is really just for asthetics.
must admit i like the look of it but my bike is too ratty ATM for something that shiney

forget the speed wobble for a bit (might be hard to do reading previous comments)

1 - check tank breather pipes (lift tank and two outlets but not the fuel line)

2 - check fuel line and filter isnt blocked/kinked - divert a pipe from fuel pump outlet to a bottle and switch on ignition to check flow

3 - check air filter is clean (as a quick fix you can use compressed air to blast some shit out but not to close or breakage possible)
if non of above
4 - carbs out time (find the manual in downloads i aint got space to tell you how)

5 - clean carbs (piece of piss if you have a clear table and are methodical about doing it)

6 - check inlet manifold rubbers are not cracked all the way through - an air leak can cause all sorts of issues UNDER LOAD
------------
this is all assuming you have already checked your plugs and caps (put another plug in each cap and run engine with plug touching something earthed)
a loose ht giving a shit spark can be a bugger i was running three cylinders for a bit and problems were only noticable higher up gears

-- fitter wont fix once used it (the slime that is)
there is the point, why when obviously at home would you put £10 shit in your tyre when 10 mins spanner spinning has a wheel you can take down and have fixed correctly, and not cost another £xxx for a new one
(pretty sure having all that extra weight in your tyre would cause some issues aswell)
(slime is a great emergancy repair if i was down my uncles 300miles away on a sunday and needed to get home but had a flat from a nail i would use it but if im anywhere in cumbria i wouldnt, i would find another way)

go to a motorcycle tyre fitting garage - they will know more about bikes tyres than kwik fit who are car tyre ppl
i use a car garage that also do bike tyres but thats only because he races bikes on the side so i trust him

yeah the welding way is definatly better - it was just something that went through my head so i like to see others opinions
i think the threads would be the point of failure not the weld through holes as it doesnt take a huge amount of force on there
(its not a huge rotational force like on the sprocket splines)
but the weld and remove way is definatly better

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Screw in my rear tyre?!

in the middle should be plugable take it down a tyre fitter and they can have a look
dont even think about using slime you will be hated forever by the tyre fitter

thats the main thing 'once unavailable'
there are loads of engines out there that parts are hens teeth so it was more a wider usage
there could be someone reading this with and old francis barnet motor or something and i just gave them the way to fix what cant be bought
im going to be getting loads machined up and down during the streetfighter build so one more piece wont break the bank

FZS600 Fazer / Re: output shaft viable repair ???

this was just a theoretical exercise not just for fazers but for other rare as hens teeth engines aswell
the build up weld option is definatly a considerable option aswell
once again i say theoretical as it would allow for engines to remain at completly stock dimensions /thread diameters etc
thanks for everyones input its always worth seeing other peoples alternatives

true but putting a new one in there how much would a brand spanking new gearbox shaft cost
if its second hand then it could still have the same problem
going down a size is viable but for the size of the nut and its importance i would rather keep that part oem
not to mention its a recessed nut so prob quite hard to get hold of
yes the engine needs stripped but im doing it anyhow during the frame redesign.

please excuse the crap drawing
its been over ten years since i have done engineers drawings other than for a small spacer
not to mention i was laying in bed using a cd case as a ruler

FZS600 Fazer / output shaft viable repair ???
« on: 21 June 2017, 10:06:57 am »
could do with an engineer to double check this out and let everyone know before this is tried was just an idea and i know there are some amazing lathe machinists out there
i keep reading about output shafts being stripped and i cringe when i hear the sprockets have been welded on (yeah it works but)
i will be stripping my engine down before long and i know my output shaft has seen better days so was wondering if it was viable to sleeve the threaded shaft after turning it down and having that re threaded
obviously there is litle rotational stress in that area so i thought by making the sleeve a little bit smaller and using heat and compresssion to get as much friction between the two and even welding through holes to add more joint strength just incase
then turning it down and re threading again
-what do you guys think cause there are only so many of these used output shafts around.
shaft repair?
shaft repair?

FZS600 Fazer / Re: anyone know the swingarm dimensions
« on: 17 June 2017, 08:32:39 am »
hi thanks for the offer mate, it would prob just sit around untill the bike is up on the bench getting stripped - it was just so i could have a look around at similar sized swingarms and figure out where things would need shaved or spaced
im trying to get all the big parts ordered now and spread the cost out a bit as it looks like im selling my kidney for the USD front end.
knowing the state of body my kidney might get me enough for a bar end weight

cheers mate i was hoping someone out there would have one swinging around (ooh the bad puns)
time to make a list of usable swingarms after a bit of machining

i just happen to be looking at my exhaust hanger (replacing gaskets) for 50 quid i will get the grinder and polishing gear and make one from the oem with pillion rest cut off
