i think there are some anal retentive mot guys out there
on the chop i have a offside side mounted number plate and i had the reflector (the 2p sized ones shown above) on the offside of that
it couldnt be any further away from center and it still passed
-this was at a mainly car garage and i was giving one of his employees a hand getting his bikes rear wheel out so i may have got some leeway on that.

well after fibreglassing the hole in my tail and the grabrail holes i obviously needed to paint it
needed it in a rush today so shot down to halfords to see what was close
it turns out ford moondust silver isnt a bad match
havent clearcoated it yet but it will do me and looks better than primer over filler

i removed my reflector trimmed the excess off the numberplate (instead of buying a smaller plate)
and lifted the whole thing up as far as i could - mot time i will just get one of those stick on reflectors
might buy a new numberplate and stick it too that then put it on once a year at mot time

thats exactly what im planning
if my memory of electrical wiring resistance is still working then i think it needs to be 10-12 guage wire to run 120W of lights
just have to find the right relay now
if i can only find a switchover relay then i think i will have to add 2 relays 1 on/off, 1 hi/low

FZS600 Fazer / headlight relays ?
« on: 12 October 2017, 03:33:13 am »
its 3AM and i just got back in and im too cold to investigate other than looking at diagrams and ask here

the 2000 model doesnt have headlight relays does it ?
if it does where abouts should i be looking
- im running twin dominator headlights with osram night breakers and not as impressed impressed as i should be

thinking of going direct wiring with a relay (last 30 miles have been a nightmare as there was no1 to follow)
if there is no oem relay i will just rip the loom and hide a relay under the tank
oem factory relay will get replaced if there is one as standard

just noticed the tyre pressures written on the seat
-good idea for those of us who forget the pressures as soon as we get to the compressor

I AM CRAP
im also a cheapskate and bought some cheap ass stuff
either way im going to have a kick ass looking laptop/phone and vape with the leftovers

ooh will also say after watching that video about the versyectamy that the shapes involved are alot easier as it has those nice little side panels that make it a lot easier to hide bits / cut off, try doing a fzs tank in two halves - holy crap is it not a good day with £12 wrap lol

FZS600 Fazer / dont try to vinyl wrap
« on: 07 October 2017, 08:56:14 pm »
well incase anyone else has the bright idea to try and DIY vinyl wrap there bike - just dont
holy crap is the tank hard to do, ripped it off and decided just to paint it when i can
it may be the quality of the wrap i used i dont know but will just give it to a professional next time

but there is only one way to find out you cannot do something - and that is to try
-except for flying using arms as wings - never try that, i promise it wont work - even if the drugs make you think you can

That's a very good price.
I bought mine from my local speedway shop in the village. It was about £18.
a SPEEDWAY SHOP in the village
-i live just outside a speedway town and we dont have one of those

i dont know if this will help as i havent got out of bed to go have a look at where you mean to take measurements (9 cans into youtube)
try searching 'threaded spacers' on ebay - i have found a few options to hide bolt threads where they need hidden for aesthetic and mechanical  purposes

when lifting a bike always remember anger is the key
had to pick up a vl800 (about 250kg) after getting knocked off and knackering my leg
shouting Muther F**ker as i literally flung it up made the cager shit themselves
= must admit i was a 15 stone no fat construction worker at the time so that may have helped

but serious downed side of bike bring bars close to rear wheel - turn your back on bike -hold bars, and whatever you can with free hand - and lift
if laying on right hand side - put in gear and kickstand down
health and safety would say bend your knees not your back but in this case it works

I just love Castrol R and I have a can in my shed which I bought to use on my old BSA (now sold) but I pop a bit in my bike every now and then and especially if I'm on a ride-out with some friends just so they can get a whiff.
I was told it is basically castor oil so that's probably why it causes stomach complaints...

Hey Hugh,
Shove a drop of Castrol R in your lawn mower tank about 5 ml will do, makes mowing the lawn a completely different experience.

that might be enough to make me mow the lawn every weekend

been caught out in all weathers as i ride all year
snow so bad i had to ride in the tracks of car in front so close i could see his tail lights (easy crashing distance)
had hypothermia once
and far too often through floods which does wonders for washing the undercarage

if you bought it from ebay then you will have to buy the link pipe seperate
(about £40)
got to ask how much you paid for the stubby alone ?

« on: 29 September 2017, 11:40:19 am »
just had a crack with the old man and he has never used a dyno for tuning - seems strange but how tuned can a norton get
he is thinking it is probably for plugging lamda sensors and that sort of shit for fuel injection bikes
fuel injection is wizardry in my opinion as ive not learnt it yet (need to grow merlins beard first)

FZS600 Fazer / Re: exhaust / dyno question
« on: 28 September 2017, 11:23:53 pm »
All sounds a bit OTT to me, Dyno operators know exactly what they're doing, I don't think they really need any help.
And exactly how much do you want out of a very old bike anyway?
i dont consider the fazer a very old bike
my other bike is older than me however

FZS600 Fazer / Re: exhaust / dyno question
« on: 28 September 2017, 08:15:37 pm »
not really i tend to have an idea then it gets made up as i go along, i dont like anything standard
i just have no idea on dyno stuff as i have only used one once before and it was years ago on a v-twin with single carb
-prob should ask my father as he has built enough race bikes in his day but they were classic bikes even in the 80s-early 90's
never had a chance of not riding

FZS600 Fazer / Re: exhaust / dyno question
« on: 28 September 2017, 07:44:57 pm »
ooh its getting fully rebuilt and streetfightered - think along the lines of 'major fazer'
i just want to make sure everything is as sweet as possible from the fueling side of things to match how the engine is after its rebuilt
its currently running pods and works well but i know it can be better setup once it hits the dyno after i replace the cheap pods to different setup
if individual exhaust readings make the life of the dyno operator easier to tune things then i will do everything to do that

FZS600 Fazer / exhaust / dyno question
« on: 28 September 2017, 03:49:54 pm »
ok im hoping there is a dyno guy here somewhere

i have seen on some bikes exhaust headers there is a bolt going direct into the exhaust downpipe per downpipe (+extra material to hold it)
i was wondering if this is something that is used during dyno runs to set up each cylinder perfectly air/fuel mixture whatever
i dont have then on mine but i know it wouldnt be hard to fit some if i find out the right thread and depth of the extra bit of steel i need
so i am just wondering if this would be beneficial to the dyno guy when i finally get it ready to do a run to get everything set up as best as possible

i would see it being benificial as it would give a reading from each cylinder and not just one probe down the exhaust
anyone know the score
