Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Gen 1 top end rebuild
« on: 24 February 2021, 10:36:31 am »
So my guy is getting the head off as the valves and cam are worn

Anyone got a decent inlet cam about ?

Also is it worth fitting an r1 head Gasket to bump compression a bit ?

Where is the best supplier for valves and gaskets ?

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Removing crash bungs
« on: 07 May 2020, 04:07:37 am »
Hi lads

I went to remove my crash bungs and took the left one off, put the bolts back thru the engine mount and realised I needed either shorter bolts or thick spacers/washers to get the nut to butt up against something, due to threads not going far enough up bolts

Can anyone spec me new bolts to order or spacers ?

Just need length and width

Cheers

I’d have measured them but silly me lost my tape measure  :rolleyes

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Brakes are poor
« on: 12 May 2019, 10:02:49 pm »
so I’m a big lad, 22 stone, but damn these brakes ain’t sharp ffs. It’s done 45k and I don’t think much has been done to her other than oil changes. Engine is sweet, just had valve clearances done and pretty much all of them were miles out. But the brakes are crap. Pull the front brake hard and it will stop but 3 finger pulls are poor at best:(

I’m thinking a fluid change would be a start, but then steel braided lines at same time will surely improve the performance?

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Starter switch and intermittent exup fault
« on: 06 April 2019, 03:01:49 pm »
occasionally my start button does nothing. I whack the right control block a few times and it works, although the Whacking doesn’t seem to actually do anything and it works when it wants too ...

Also I’ve had the 7k exup Rev fault display earlier at same time as starter was being funky. But I’ve rebuiilt the exup and set it up correctly, cables aren’t too tight etc and bike goes like fk and pulls away from my mates srad that did 130bhp on dyno ...

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Does gen 1 do a ton in second
« on: 04 April 2019, 06:11:54 pm »
only just started to proper rape this, being my first litre bike. I swear earlier on, I did a 4 car overtake on a twisty single lane A road off a roundabout and as I changed into third as it hit limiter, I looked at revs/speedo and I was doing 100mph  :eek :D :lol

Is this right ? Will these bad boys do a ton in second on stock gearing ?

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Painting fork legs
« on: 04 April 2019, 03:33:33 pm »
what’s the best way to turn my fork bottoms black on my fzs1000 ?

Nothing fancy, just in the process of getting rid of all the silver and chrome etc.

I’m thinking take legs off, rub down and clean up with a solvent. Then rattle can. But what can ? Is it worth using primer first ? Could I just use something like hammerite ?

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / New Ivan’s supplier?
« on: 27 March 2019, 07:18:11 pm »
so I’ve heard of the passing of the sg motorsport owner who was Uk distributor of Ivan’s performance stuff

Anyone know where we can order from now ?

Can’t find an email for Ivan

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Barge like handling
« on: 21 February 2019, 08:48:28 pm »
So I need to do some serious tweaking to sharpen up the front end on my gen 1.  What are the limits of raising the forks through clamps before it’s gets a bit slappy? I’m thinking I’ll go for 15mm straight away as it’s so slow to tip in. Loads of dive under braking and the preload is pretty much all the way out, I’m 23 stone lol so I’m going to need to wind it right in a fair bit me thinks ... any suggestions?

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Clutch less up shifts
« on: 16 February 2019, 07:18:20 pm »
I dare say this has been done to death on here and every where, but still ...

When I’m riding steady, commuting and in traffic etc I’ll always use the clutch. But when I’m hard on it up through the gears, I just get off the throttle and snick the next cog in, one after another

Is this likely to fk it up ?

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Mirrors useless gen1
« on: 14 February 2019, 06:18:59 pm »
all I can see is my shoulders ffs

Any mounts to move them out or mirror swaps ?

I saw some where cbr1000rr mirrors fit and they looked a bit wider ?

Don’t want bar end as they all seem to be that wide I’d have a nightmare filtering in traffic

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Headlights are shite
« on: 10 February 2019, 07:41:25 pm »
done a search and can’t see anything conclusive

‘04 first gen fzs1000

What should I do to make them a bit better ? Osram night breakers ? Looks like 2x h4 bulbs

just found this, pretty epic  :D  this is the first video. Many videos of a complete strip and rebuild of the engine and box. Setting up the cams all sorts. Other vids on Ivan’s jet kit on his account. This is about as thorough as it gets  :eek

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Exup serviced, snapped bolt sorted
« on: 06 January 2019, 07:21:03 pm »
so in my haste to give my new ‘04 thou a thorough going over I stripped the exup for a clean and regrease. Rear bolt snapped, this was well before Xmas   :rolleyes  So I left it alone as didn’t have any taps or easy outs etc, and it just sat there stripped in garage for a month :o  Anyway, Mate came over today and drilled it and retapped the thread for me :) so I’m a happy man. Just put it back together after giving the shaft a clean up with some emery, then a smear of copper grease on the moving parts and the new bolts I got. It is slightly out of adjustment with the ignition on, but functions fine and it goes like a bastard anyway as I just found out. I’ll have a go at adjusting the cables and center the fork thing over the hole after work one evening this Week.

Then it’s an oil change and pray for some dry days that ain’t so cold so I can use it a bit. It’s bogging a bit at low revs but it’s stood for a year prior to me buying it off its old owner. I’m thinking a couple of tanks of super through it and some serious rape should clear them carbs out

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Fitting Ivan’s slip on kit, who does it now ?
« on: 05 November 2018, 01:48:01 pm »
So I contacted my local bike tuner and dyno guy, he said he’s done a few and that it would be £295 to fit and set up on dyno, and that it might be an extra £20 if the supplied jets are wrong ...

I thought he can’t know what he’s on about as everything is correct with the slip on kit to my knowledge?!

Anyway I figured this was extortionate and I’d probably be better off doing it myself and saving £300 lol. But watched a vid on YouTube and it does look pretty bloody fiddly and drawn out...

So falcon is not fitting any more, anyone else ?

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / S1000rr shock question
« on: 04 November 2018, 09:51:34 am »
just got my new (to me) 2004 fazer 1k home. It’s come with a few bits one of which is the beemer shock. It has 2 modified top bushes ready to be fitted, but my question is what’s the procedure for drilling out the bottom hole on the fork ? Can I do this with a hand drill ? Don’t want to bugger it up

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Ais removal
« on: 29 October 2018, 03:31:47 pm »
ive done a search and can’t find a guide to removing ais on my 2004 fzs1000

Can I do it With stock pipe on ? Will be getting a slip on and Ivan’s jet kit in due course

Are all the common mods stickied somewhere?

Introduction / Hi folks just bought one
« on: 29 October 2018, 03:52:55 am »
so I’m the proud new owner of a stock 2004 thou with 44k up it  :)

This will be my second bike after passing my test in 2016. First bike was a my09 tracer that I did 13k on in 18 months

I’m expecting a totally different experience with this older inline 4, with no abs or traction control, so I’m going to have to learn to respect the power and the brakes very quickly  :eek

I pick her up next Saturday  :lol
