FZS600 Fazer / anyone know the swingarm dimensions
« on: 13 June 2017, 08:46:26 pm »
looking ahead and planning the full streetfighter build (lots of notes and sketches being done)
but as i need the bike as my daily at the moment i cant always rip things apart to take measurements
does anyone happen to have the dimensions of the swingarm pivot width and even better the spindle size aswell (length and diameter)
i seem to find lots of dimensions for other bikes but the fzs600 boxeye is alluding me
any help would be added to my book of random crap (should try and get it published)

speedo replacement advice ---
if you see the cheap chinese copy of the koso clocks steer clear - i have one and it looks ok and speedo works
but rev counter is a bit slow and the fuel guage wont work i have full and one bar less than full
go the extra mile and buy the proper koso it will last longer comes with better instalation instructions and has all the settings you will ever need
the wiring is actually fairly simple once your in there just have a good look at the wiring diagram for a 12v that goes into the clocks then feeds down to the speedo sensor make sure that wire down has 12v feed to it to get it to work
you could use the magnet sensor instead but oem sensor must remain for the ecu to operate correctly so just encorperate the oem into aftermarket speedo

will definatly be watching - if the prices are good enough for a skint bugger like me i might have a set
-or get the boot polish out on the old ones
if it works on burt munroes tyres its good enough for my hoses.

saw an absolutely gorgeous fzs at preston harley davidson car park but never figured who owned it
through me a bit with the mix of parts then started to figure it out
t reg so must have been a boxeye
boxeye tank
fox eye front fairings
USD forks with custom triple trees
uprated brakes with wavy disc on rear
screamed nice nice nice as soon as i saw it
if anyone has any details on it please let me know the modifications below
and even better would be a photo or two to let everyone see this beauty

when carbs were off did you blow down the fuel line to check it was clear (should blow through if drained bowls of fuel)
try disconnecting fuel line anywhere after fuel filter and turn ignition on - will run for a few seconds then stop (remember a bottle)
(might as well clean contacts on fuel pump)
sounds like a fueling problem

when i took my fairing off and pulled apart the headlights i was shocked that it was a h1/h4 setup and instantly took a dislike to it
i run dominator headlights in a stacked posistion using good h4's in both
the bike had been dropped by previous owner and the fairing was cracked and frame twisted so it was the easiest option for better lights
-wish i knew then what i know now

paint wont add strength but i wouldnt worry unless you went mental with the sandpaper (if you found it erotic you may have)
-vht clear coat for a shine (i dont trust vht clear myself but have never used )
-any vht black tends to come out dull/matt but saves rust on non stainless parts
-buy a buffing pad and some blue compound (read up on polishing metal)
personally i would go the polishing route
sand with finer and finer wet and dry then get a buffing wheel for a bench grinder or handheld grinder with the right compound and go to town
- i use a handheld grinder with a buffing flapwheel with blue compound and get pretty good results
i even got mirror finish on a vape machine after finishing with silvol but that might be a bit more than you want

looks like a re-rebuild is definatly on the cards - as with any carb rebuild make sure you have a nice clean area ready to seperate each carb into its own area - go through each piece checking all jet holes are clear etc etc (grandma this is how you suck eggs) - make sure you check your float levels on each carb it is amazing how often this is overlooked (including by myself as it is a final step and im impatient) it never hurts to throw a dose of redex through just before a rebuild (if it runs at least) and get a few miles to let it do its stuff
while carbs are off it would be a good idea to check your inlet rubbers (even though its a rich mixture problem you might as well)
and also ask around your area if anyone has a carb balancing kit (wont hurt to check and balance as you can loosen screws while they are off and make it easy)

so your problem is a missing wiring diagram for the speedo
- any chance of
1: link to the item you bought (just so we can see what is there)
2: a list of wires you have i.e black, blue, blue (Red tracer) ETC ETC
we might be able to help you out with wiring decoding
if there is a black wire with a white tracer that is prob your earth add that to negative on a battery and test other wires on positive to see what lights up

it is in german but easy enough to use translation software -
this is the plug that goes into your speedo
make sure there is a 12v feed going down to your speed sensor that seems to be where the problems are.
if you cant figure out which wire should have 12v feed lift your tank and find the  sensor connector and stick a small pin in the wire and use voltage meter to find the 12v one

there is a diagram in the manual as well which is in the download section

- Finished the top end rebuild (again) reset the carbs as only running on three fitted a new chain and sprockets and sprocket nut
- Got the koso style speedo all wired up fired up and found myself doing 100+ through my village so went out with a tomtom and calibrated the speedo
- Got dominator headlights in vertical stacks now
- Exhaust leaking where the linkpipe goes into oem exhaust so filled it with steel putty stuff and its worked a treat (cant afford full FUEL exhaust system yet)
just in time for this weekends festivities
would be crack open a beer time getting all the work finished but its only 10:30 so time for a cuppa
