While you have it apart check the basket for wear. If there are any notches where the plates sit just smooth them out with a file. That said mine is very sticky too and always has been but i'm up at 85000 miles now with no problems.

Yeh did exactly the same as you for the same reason and had exactly the same issue/question.
Been a few years now with no problems though.

We'll have to get the Welshies together some time for a ride around the mountains.

On the faired model there are two connectors sitting just above the radiator behind the near side fairing panel. These get a lot of water on them if riding in the wet and when washing the bike and can get corroded connections.
I have found that these are nearly always the cause for any lighting or dashboard problems.
I clean mine with electrical contact cleaner and then a good soaking with duck oil and then a quick blow out to remove the excess oil.
Very rare in my experience that a lighting relay goes these days.

Well, hello there.
Where abouts are you based? I'm down south near Newport.

Bought a tyre fitting machine a few years ago now as I was fed up with paying to have it done.
I've heard the same as you so have always used a dedicated lubricant for the job. I prefer the liquid to the grease though.

A vacuum bleed works wonders on an abs system.
Have you checked the diagnostics for error codes? used the diag sytem to make sure the abs pump is working by switching it off and on?

- That shadow looks like a tab washer was on there that hasn't been folded over.
- Another one here for loctite 243.
- Common mistake by people that dont know what they are doing.
- Gnasher has recommended Green 270
Then I'm not surprised that sprocket nuts come undone.
Mine is staked but I don't trust that so I use a bit of loctite.

I'm a programmer, not a mechanic. Was like that when I bought it. How do I know what is standard and what is a modification?

USD forks are costly to replace oil/dust seals as specialist tools are required to do the job both safely and properly.   ;)

Beg to differ, I find them neither difficult or requiring specialist tools.
TBH I find them easier than traditional forks.

Always tighter coils at the top.
Would never fit progressive springs though. It plays havoc with the damping. One of the first things to be ditched on any of my bikes.

I'll put my flag in the ground. 😝
It's a Yamaha, if the obvious plugs, fuel and filter are eliminated (and should have been first) then it's a coil.
Stake your guesses now.

If start by ditching those iridium plugs, I've had them break down in under 1000 miles.
Only buy plugs from a dealer or m and p  (somewhere reputable) as there are tons of fakes out there on eBay.
Then check caps, leads and coils.
There are only a few things in the ignition system to cause a miss fire.

« on: 14 April 2021, 09:53:53 pm »
In that case I would think it's definitely worn.
But not very much, if you do regular oil changes and use the bike then a cam chain should last almost forever. I've had bikes over 140000 miles on the original cam chain without any rattles.
My current fz8 is on 80000 and quiet as a 🐭.

In that case absolutely well done that man.
Don't find many that go to that trouble and as you didn't mention it I thought I would.
Keep an eye on the tyre wear though, one or two clicks more or less on compression make the difference between squaring off the rear or keeping its profile.

Hi just wondering what spring rate you ended up with based on your rider weight and if you have set up your sag settings, what pre load did you end up with to get them?

I just fitted an R1 and still having issues over the spring rate they recommended, also the video on there website changing the spring yourself is wrong, it can’t be done on this model anyway.

According to the service sheet the spring rate is 525lb. Rider weight with kit is 84kg, pillion weight with kit 54kg.

My local supplier fitted the shock and did all the set-up for me ..... http://www.tyres4bikes.co.uk

How can the local dealer 'set up' the the rear shock for you?
He doesn't know your
Front rear weight balance preference
Braking technique
Weight transfer speed/control preference under braking and acceleration
Did he ask about your tyre choices ( stiffer or softer side wall)
Indeed did he ask you anything?
Shock set up is not a game, your life can depend on it!
You can lose the front under braking if the rebound is wrong or under acceleration if the compression is wrong.
There are a million ways it can go wrong when you trust someone else with the set up.
If he isn't YOUR mechanic and he hasn't spent hundreds of hours working and talking to you he can't know how to set up your shock only you can do it correctly.

Nitron  shocks are the badgers nadgers.
One question though, is it just the camera angle or is that nut securing the shock to the linkage a little closer to the link arms?

Turns out you can't quarantine it either.
