Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Number plate light
« on: 31 July 2023, 01:11:50 pm »
I took off the R&G tail tidy off my Fazer 8, that the bike came with, as I wanted more weather protection.
I bought a secondhand Fazer 1000 rear guard, which it the same part numbers as a Fazer 8.My query is regarding the number plate light, as the one on this guard seems loose. I took a look at it, and there are shouldered screws going through rubber bobbins, presumably for vibration damping, but mine seem very loose. Can anyone confirm whether this is correct and yours will move up and down to the touch?

For Sale & Wanted / Wanted, Fazer 8 rear mudguard
« on: 20 June 2023, 01:21:30 pm »
Hi, my Fazer 8 is fitted with an R&G tail tidy, but as I'm an all year round rider, I want the added protection of the rear mudguard.
Has anyone fitted a tail tidy and want to sell their original mudguard?

Fazer8 / FZ8 / Scottoiler reservoir position
« on: 16 May 2023, 09:54:28 am »
Want to fit a Scottoiler to my Fazer 8, but the space under the rear seat looks a bit limited for the reservoir.

Where has everyone else put theirs?

Fazer8 / FZ8 / Thinking of a Fazer 8
« on: 27 April 2023, 09:31:33 am »
Hi
Further to my post on another page about having my FZS600 Fazer stolen, it has since been recovered trashed, so thoughts turn to a replacement.
Thinking of a Fazer 8, but want to know what to look out for.
Things I've heard about so far are the rear shock being awful and the dip beam only acting on one light.
Suspension mods on 13 plate and later bikes.
Anything else I should know about.

I've read that they were unpopular when new as were quite expensive, but the second hand market shoul dhave ebvened things up by now.
Looking at getting around 13 plate

FZS600 Fazer / Oil pressure switch
« on: 09 January 2019, 01:23:30 pm »
Twice in the last two days, my oil light has come on, spookily in exactly the same place on my daily commute.
After around a mile, I come to a T junction, and while idling, the light comes on. Revving the engine doesn't kame it go out, and when I pull away and lean left and right it still satys on. Stopping, switching off the ignition and then back on makes it go out, but I'm thinking the switch might be on its' way out.

Bike has 62000 miles and yes the oil is topped up.

FZS600 Fazer / Rear shock durability
« on: 09 January 2019, 01:16:39 pm »
Rear shock seem to be getting a bit tired after 62000 miles.
I don't take pillions, but the compression damping isn't as good as it was, and the spring is tired as it seems to sit lower than it used to.

How long have others stock shock lasted?

I do 300 miles a week commuting and do not spend any money on the bike I don't have to, was thinking of the YSS ones from the bay as replacement.

FZS600 Fazer / Speedo sensor
« on: 21 December 2018, 09:44:27 am »
While taking the wheel out to get my new tyre fitted, I noticed that the ceramic speedo sensor was broken. I know the little ears normally break off, but they were fine, a piece of the cylinder part had come away.
I got a new one on order but fitted the broken one as I needed the bike to the commute to work. I thought it would either work or not, what I got was a working speedo that read low. 6k revs in top is a smidge over 70mph usually, today it was reading 50mph at 6k.

New one should arrive today so will get fitted over Christmas, just thought I would share.

FZS600 Fazer / Road noise back
« on: 20 December 2018, 01:28:35 pm »
Ever since I've had the Fazer there has been noise from the front end, more noticeable at lower speeds when riding with the visor up.

At first I changed wheel bearings, checked the speedo hub, greased everything in sight and checked for loose fairing etc, nothing made any difference. I changed the screen and tried taping things up in order to find the source, but after a while I gave up, and ignored it. I've now done 40 odd thousand miles on the bike. I fitted a new tyre yesterday and it came back, I hadn't realised that it had gone away until the first ride this morning.

For the last 10000 miles I've had a Michelin Macadam 100 that I got second hand with a wheel I got from the bay, these have a ribbed centre tread, and while they pick up road imperfections, had dampened the road noise. The 023 has no centre ribs, and this seems to be the source of the noise.

FZS600 Fazer / Original fitment tyres
« on: 14 December 2018, 01:42:09 pm »
Can anyone on here confirm the make and model of tyres that the FZS600 was fitted with from new?
Did it change between '98 and '03.

FZS600 Fazer / Front tyre size
« on: 12 December 2018, 02:04:07 pm »
Probably been asked before, but, did all the FZS600s come with a 110/70 front, or did they change on the later models to 120?

Just enquired about a tyre for my 2002 and was informed the later ones had a 120.

General / Anyone had an HJC IS-16 and IS-17?
« on: 27 March 2018, 01:24:49 pm »
I'm thinking of swapping my aging IS-16 for an IS-17, and wanted to see if anyone has had both and what they thought about them

Very pleased on the whole with the IS-16 especially the quick detach visor and the internal sun shade. Vents are good and visibility is good as well. It's comfortable but quite noisy.

Is the IS-17 quieter?

« on: 25 June 2015, 01:32:21 pm »
The centre stand stop is part is the link pipe, and I wanted to fit a replacement can and pipe, but don't want to lose the centre stand stop. Has anyone come up with a good solution to this?
I can't be the first to ask this, but couldn't find anything with a search.

FZS600 Fazer / Motad stainless headers
« on: 15 June 2015, 07:16:14 pm »
Been looking for some cheap stainless headers for my Foxeye ever since the MoT man said he should have failed my bike (but he's a mate) because of the headers rioting through at the collector and blowing.
Kept an eye on eBay for some for a while now, but they don't come up that often, Motad-UK were selling some at £199 a set, but that was still a little rich for me. There was a new but unfitted set for sale but I was outbid, then noticed the Motad-UK ones were saying last one left, so I was thinking of biting the bullet and getting some, as with my luck there wouldn't be any around come MoT time. Then I got an email from ebay with a discount code, bought the last set of pipes and spent less than the S/H set I was bidding on. Happy days!

General / Supplier who got it wrong
« on: 08 June 2015, 09:38:00 pm »
Now, I'm still in dialogue with the supplier, and if get an apology I'll not name them, but they deal on Ebay, and when I ordered my parts, the ad said that delivery would be 'on or before Friday 22nd May , now they didn't turn up until Tuesday, (Monday being the bank holiday).
When leaving feedback I posted a neutral, saying that the delivery was not on the expected date..

I got a message today asking me to change it (which you can't)
When I replied saying that as the ad said delivery on Friday, that's what I expected.
His response was to call me a liar and an imbecile.
When I replied that his boss wouldn't want him talking to paying customers that way, he came back saying he WAS the boss.

I guess customer service is well and truly dead.

FZS600 Fazer / Tick from cold
« on: 06 April 2015, 07:45:40 pm »
Since I got my foxeye at 18000 miles there has always been a slight ticking when cold that goes away when warm. I finally got round to checking the valve clearances (24000 miles) and they were all in spec.
What I did find is that number 2 spark plug was not even finger tight, I'm betting this is the source of my tick. I know I should have done a complete nut and bolt check when I first got the thing, but why do people who don't know how tight things should be do work on their bikes, if you can't tighten a spark plug up then you really should be taking it to the dealers for servicing.

The upside is that they are the same plugs I'm using in my XRX, so I've just ordered some in bulk.

FZS600 Fazer / Clock

FZS600 Fazer / How to spot an aftermarket fairing
« on: 15 October 2014, 01:38:40 pm »
I'm beginning to suspect my 2002 foxeye has an aftermarket fairing fitted.
Is there a way to tell between the cheap ebay ones and the genuine article?

FZS600 Fazer / Trip odometer reading
« on: 19 September 2014, 01:18:57 pm »
Some of you may have seen my mileage thread, I didn't want to confuse anything by posting in there, the thing is my trip odometer don't seem to read right.

When I filled up last time I set the second trip to 0, I have since done four trips to work, which is a 64 miles round trip (confirmed on my old bike, the car and bing maps). Now after these four trips I would have expected the trip meter to read 256 miles, but instead it reads 238.

Has anyone else had this?

I will check the front tyre size is correct as that could put the reading out.

Incidentally this makes my mileage even more impressive  :)
