Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / FZS 1000 rear wheel bearing spacer
« on: 08 January 2021, 05:46:20 pm »
I have finally got round to changing the rear wheel bearings - one is fine, the other is shagged. I noticed that the bearing spacer looks f***ed as well - see pics, am presuming that it will need replacing.

Does anyone know if a Gen 2 FZ1 spacer and spindle will fit?
Cheers!

Has anyone had any difficulty fitting a Nitron road shock?
Some great replies by Gnasher and b1k3rdude, they are very good shocks.

As Gnasher implies if buying second hand I would personally factor in the costs of sending the shock to Nitron and getting it serviced and resprung / revalved for your weight and riding style, or at least bare this in mind as something that you will need to do to get the best out of the shock and the bike. Nitron's service team tend to be quiet at this time of year so you may get a discount on servicing if you call them and ask for prices.

Fitting is straightforward and I couldn't add anything to what b1k3rdude has said, I use a chock for taking the weight of the rear when dissasembling the linkage as sometimes you might want to go up or down a couple of mm and a chock helps with this. I recall the top mounting bolt for the shock can be tricky to get to and I had to use a universal joint on my socket set but I don't have an extensive tool kit so other methods may work.

Obviously if you have any specific questions then post back.

Cheers guys, I should've said that I actually have the nitron shock. I managed to remove the old Hagon pretty easily but it's deffo a 2 man job. Thanks for the advice , I'll make sure that all the linkages are well greased.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Recommission the old girl
« on: 23 November 2020, 10:54:44 pm »
Forgive me for I have sinned. I bought an ex demo Tracer GT in Jan this year, after the old girl developed a few problems. Shock knackered, rear wheel bearing shot to bits - plus various other niggly bits and bodywork showing its age.
So she has sat unloved, languishing in the back of the garage. I felt guilty so have bought a Nitro road shock to replace the leaky Hagon, bearings ordered so off we go.
She was running great, 80k on the clock so once MoT'd will use her for the winter to save getting the Tracer too filthy (maybe a bit late as I broke her in at this year's Dragon Rally during storm wassername  :lol ).
The Tracer is a great all round bike, but I do miss that top end rush that the thou gives you.

Could do with new tyres as well, are Michelin Pilot Roads still the favourite for all weather riding? Was thinking about maybe doing the occasional track day  :eek
Cheers!Colin

For Sale & Wanted / Sena SMH10 Bluetooth intercom - boxed as new
« on: 09 April 2017, 08:01:05 pm »
Sena SMH10 Bluetooth intercom for sale. Boxed and as new, only used for 6 months or so. Genuine reason for sale: I bought wired audio custom-made  earplugs at the MCN bike show in Feb, which sadly won't connect wired to the Sena.  :'(

Great piece of kit, never had any probs with it.

£130 posted, can send pics if required.

Many thanks,
Colin

Thanks all, points taken. But I guess that replacement springs - not necessarily ohlins - are better than standard springs that have been on the bike for 65k miles?

I will be sorting the rear out as well, not sure yet whether ohlins, nitron or Luke's R6 mod but that's another thread...

In an effort to improve my bike's handling, new fork springs are on the cards.

I have seen Ohlins springs for £115, has anyone fitted them, and if so are they a good bet?

Cheers

Sort the suspension (R6 shock and fork overhaul), fit a manual cam chain tensioner for peace of mind and keep riding. :)

Went through my paperwork last night and the bike had a Hagon shock fitted at 17k, so now wonder it's feeling a bit soggy!

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Reliability issues and high mileage
« on: 05 April 2016, 05:08:29 pm »
I have been toying with the idea of buying a new bike cos my fazer has done 65k. I've had it regularly serviced and it still runs well - only possible issue is cam chain a bit rattly so guess the tensioner is wearing out... plus i suspect the suspension needs attention before too long.

Is 65k considered high mileage for a fazer thou and anyone had any reliability issues? I've put 15k on it in 2 years, and that includes a 2,500 mile trip to the Alps and Cote d'Azur without any drama.

Got 5 grand burning a hole in my bank account so am having a bit of a guilt trip!

Will give the PR4s a go - will be racking up 400-500 miles next weekend so will report back on performance.

A fiver for both front and rear, so nothing in it really. Just wondered what the difference is in compound, if any.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Tyres - PR3 or 4?
« on: 15 March 2014, 06:47:07 pm »
Picked up a nail in my rear today so rather than get it repaired (am a bit unsure anyway) so have decided to change the ContiMotion which I'm not keen on for a pair of michelins.

Anyone tried the new PR4s? They're supposed to be longer lasting and better in the wet than the PR3s.

Any suggestions?

I've gone for Castrol Power 1 10W40, see how that goes.

Thanks for the input
