Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Coolant pipes where they enter engine.
« on: 05 October 2023, 10:37:10 am »
On top of the engine where the metal coolant pipes enter, the tubes they go through are always full of water (not coolant). Should there be a drain here somewhere? Every time I wash the bike I find myself stuffing the tubes full of tissue to dry them out. I would hate for one of the pipes to rust through.

Thanks for the EBC Technical suggestion, I hadn't thought of that.
I have just moved from EBC wavy to EBC non-wavy and sintered to organic due to heavy scoring and mot failure on the wavy-sintered combo. The old discs only lasted 15 thou miles before needing replacement for some reason.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Ticking front brake
« on: 22 August 2021, 01:03:29 pm »
I've done a forum search but can't find anything similar so here goes........

I have just done full service on front brakes . New EBC discs, new EBC organic discs, new seals throughout, new fluid and new bleed screws. The only things that aren't new are the calipers. All was assembled with a touch of red rubber grease.

Problem I have is that when I apply the brake I get a fast ticking sound which remains throughout braking and slowly goes away after release. The ticking is faster than once every wheel rotation. I can only think this is some form of interaction between the edges of the pads and the edges of the holes in the discs although I have never had this noise when just replacing pads. I have changed pads from left to right but the ticking remains.

Has anyone else had this?

Will it disappear when everything settles down and wears in?

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Valve cover problem.
« on: 25 June 2016, 10:31:25 am »
Hi All,
I have been washing my FZS1000 ready for my annual tour of Spain and have noticed that the sockets on top of the engine where the two water jacket pipes come through are both full of water. Presumably there should be drain holes somewhere which are blocked. this water will obviously boil off once the engine heats up but the two pipes are already showing signs of corrosion and will at some point corrode through completely.
Has anyone else encountered this and if so how did you manage to unblock any drain holes through all the crap that sits on top of the engine?

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: MPG drop
« on: 23 April 2015, 11:57:51 am »
One thing I forgot to add into my original post which may or may not be connected is that tickover seems to have dropped down to below 1000 revs. Would this be as a result of carb balance or ignition advancer? I will re-adjust it but is this another symtom of low MPG?

I am not a "hard" rider at the best of times. Call myself a fast tourer. Have not been conciously riding any faster or accelerating any quicker.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / MPG drop
« on: 23 April 2015, 10:00:04 am »
Hi,
My 05 Gen 1 has just come out of the shed after a winters worth of tlc. Every consumable has been replaced (pads, oil, water, fork oil, plugs, filters etc) plus I have installed R6 rear shock, ignition advancer and had the carbs balanced (I was told that both pairs of carbs were ok but the pairs were out of balance by a fair bit).
Improvements are everywhere particularly in handling(R6) and mid range (I.A.) BUT it is obvious that mpg has obviously dropped. Before all this work I would regularly get 180 miles from a tank before the red light but now after half a tank I have only got 60 miles.

Any suggestions on which of my "improvements" could be the cause of this sudden drop in MPG.
 :( :'( :(

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Fork Rebound Damping
« on: 14 August 2014, 11:24:44 am »
Aah thanks........that would also explain why I have 29 clicks on my compression damping adjuster instead of the 21 as stated in the manuals...
So it's the clicks out from fully in that matters and not the total number.

Suspension has always confused me so will adjust everything to standard and get used to it as it is.

Many thanks again.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Fork Rebound Damping
« on: 13 August 2014, 09:56:05 pm »
While my forks are dismantled for cleaning , inspection and re-oiling I have found that my rebound damping adjusters have 42 clicks.
Both Haynes and Yamaha service manuals state this should be 17 clicks with standard setting at 7 clicks out which is where they had been set at.

Has anyone else got 42 click adjusters and if so what is standard setting?

My bike is registered in 05 so may be one of the last ones made, Have Yamaha used any old bits they had left over in the factory to finish the last few bikes?

As I am about to install Devilsyam R6 rear conversion I want the front right as well so your thoughts and suggestions would be appreciated.   :\

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Twin Exhausts?
« on: 16 May 2013, 10:50:39 pm »
I have an Gen 1 Fazer 1000 and have been toying with the idea of fitting twin exhausts. I know the Exup would have to go along with
the main stand but is just something I fancy doing........does anyone know of a company that does header pipes and hangers or would i have to have it built from scratch?

She sails through mot every year so no problem there and plate is only bent out a little and has never cracked. Although givi provide new indicator mounting brackets they are supposed to be positioned high up on the side of the top plate and look absolutely dreadful with no box attached. Much prefer my solution as bike remains a looker and its less work in the first place as well........

Introduction / Hi All
« on: 16 May 2013, 06:49:26 pm »
Hi all......I am recent arrival here on the new site but was member on the old site..........I am down in Suffolk and have just retired after 30 years in the police (very pro bike obviously)........currently have three machines 1. my trusty Gen 1 Fazer 1000 which i use for touring. 2. A customised BT1100 Bulldog which I use for posing and 3. Ducati M1100S with all the bells and whistles which I use for traffic-light grand prix and general hooning about on.

Assuming you have the givi set up which i have fitted to my fazer then it is not necessary to remove indicators at all..........the rear connecting bar which Givi says has to go through the indicator holes in the mudguard can just go between the mudguard and the number plate.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Leak.... but what is it?
« on: 16 May 2013, 06:12:30 pm »
Thanks foe all thwe above............turns out it was just shitty water sitting in top of engine because drain hole was blocked. As bike was on main stand and not being used this water just got shitty as it wasn't being boiled off with use. When put on side stand for first time after sitting it slowly oozed out. Took it to garage who blew all the crap out with an airline. Checked the plug recesses and no oil leaks...........Big Phew..... No leaks and no cost......Spain here I come.......one again thanks for all suggestions.

Bike has been sitting in shed since last july. has not got wet. Oil has just been changed and is a nice red colour still. After what has been said above I am also perplexed as to why it only seems to drain out when on side stand and not when in motion. I am now worried as am due to tour Spain at end of june and am now questioning whether it will do about 5000 miles. Should I fix before I go or will it last the holiday?
