Title: Plastic FZS 600 Foxeye visor bolts?
Post by: Slaninar on 04 October 2020, 06:37:03 am
Asking for a friend - where can one find those small condoms, that don't fall off?

 :rollin
Seriously - a friend had their Fazer slip and fall to a side, and the only real damage were the plastic bolts holding the visor pop off. And now he's looking for new plastic ones, that will break before the visor, so he can knock his bike down again, and again.  :)

If they are the same size as fitted to the Gen 1 thousand, which shares the foxeye fairing, then they're M5 sized bolts. A search on ebay should turn up something. They're 14mm long if I remember correctly.

I'd say yes - around 14 mm.
Anyone know the OEM serial number?

I just thought they were generic standard like these https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10x-Stainless-Motorcycle-Fairing-Screen-Bolt-M5-for-Honda-Suzuki-Yamaha-Kawasaki/233671212585?hash=item3667e3be29:g:wgcAAOSwAltfKrOl (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10x-Stainless-Motorcycle-Fairing-Screen-Bolt-M5-for-Honda-Suzuki-Yamaha-Kawasaki/233671212585?hash=item3667e3be29:g:wgcAAOSwAltfKrOl)

could try numberplate bolts if they are the right thread size and weaken them at the head by cutting them a bit with a small hacksaw
-- the art of bodge is a well earned :-)

Plastic number plate bolts are M6 at a guess. I know they don’t fit as have been fabricating a bracket for a voltage display, utilising one of the screen bolts, which are deffo M5, as opted for black stainless as it needed to be 20mm long to allow the bracket and retaining nut to fit.

Plenty of generic stainless bolts about, but I would definitely recommend you stick with plastic/acrylic bolts. In one of my previous 'offs' I got thrown forward and smashed the screen off with my ribs, the plastic bolt heads just snapped clean off. This was good, as it meant the screen survived n one piece with only tiny scratch and I only had a minor fractured rib. I hazard that stainless bolts would have put up more resistance, resulting in more plastic damage, maybe more rib damage...

The only downside with cheapo generic acyrilic bolts off ebay is the heads can discolour from the sun after a year or two. But then at couple of quid for a dozen, who cares, just buy some fresh ones! That said most sets I bought were oten a bit on the long side, could never be arsed cutting them down, so they poked through by about 1 cm on the inside, minor annoyance.

Thanks for all the replies. I have conveyed the info to my friend, and will see what he decides.
