FZ1 Gen 2: handguards/muffs?
« on: 22 November 2018, 02:03:31 pm »
Guys

Need a bit of advice please: have fitted Oxford muffs before and while they do keep hands warm they collapse onto the levers at remotely high speeds. I've heated grips and prefer to ride with summer gloves hence the need for a bit more wind protection.

Any other options that fit the bike and work ok? - don't care what they look like!

Thanks

following daves advice (dynspud) I complimented my heatd grips with barkbusters...bloody brilliant and I think they look as if they shoul be there. Today was a very, very cold ride home, and didn't have the heated grips on above halfway. I also no longer get that finger I leave over the brake lever freezing whilst the others are toastily wrapped around oxfords finest intelligent heated grips..

btw I know its a gen one, but they do fitting kits for all types of bar and bike. not cheap (mine were eighty quid with the quality brackets) but well worth it..used the honda for a freezing rain funeral cortege run 180 miles away in kent on Monday. its got heated grips but Christ I missed the barkbusters. and the fairing, such as it is.. :'(

+1 for barkbuster storms. Seen them on the gen2 too and they fit well as I believe they are a universal fit.
Does effect your turning circle at slow speed but not a problem when you're under way.

+ another for Barkbuster Storms. Be careful with fitting- they can be a bit close to the standard screen on full lock.Rob

What kit did you use on the Gen 1? There are different types. I know I could ask the manufacturers but you guys are not selling them and have had the hassle of fitting them. Thanks.

The link I gave is for 22mm (7/8") dia bars, which is the standard FZS 1000 Gen 1 size.
They also do them for 1" dia bars.
It depends on the diameter of your bars.

GuysAfter a bit of searching about have fitted Barkbusters Blizzards to the Gen2 FZ1 that are fabric with a supporting armature/support to stop themcollapsing onto the levers (unlike the Oxfords I used to use) and althoughthey do touch the fairing on full lock they give a little so not a problem.
Used them last weekend - rain/sleet and 2 degs C on the m/way and report allwarm using nr 2 setting on the Oxford heated grips - am hoping that I can goback to summer gloves now for the winter.A big thanks to A2 motorcycles in Gravesend who provided the advice, had theBlizzards and the important Aluminium adaptors that thread into the Yamhandle bar ends on the shelf.

Guys
For whatever reason the text I uploaded isn't readable....

+1 for bark busters storms, using the single bar fixing it allows the end of the guard to collapse against the screen at full lock. Although I made the mistake of pulling the bike onto the main stand with the handlebar and broke this large screen. I now have a narrower screen fittted and always pull on the crash bars to stand it up. I did get these guards for £50 off eBay though.
