Evening all, hope everyone's well ..
So as per title, one of my coils has packed up, resistance tested it and it was quite a bit out from the other three so swapped it for a good one and the symptoms followed it (cold exhaust), anyway has anyone bought one recently for reasonable cash ?

My apologies if bringing old threads back from the dead is frowned upon, however I have a quick question regarding the rear wheel bearings and this seemed the most relevant thread

I noticed some noise and play in the rear wheel this evening when doing a spot of spring chain maintenance, so figure at 32K miles it's probably time to replace the bearings, the Marksman kits for the 3 bearings are still available on their site for my FZ1-S, but following on from Bruce's last post, are they now putting the correct diameter seals in the packs for the later Gen 2's

Once again cheers all for any assistance

Regards Ian

Ahh okay, little clearer with the photos, it's those wing clips I was concerned about snapping off, just wondered if there was a knack to separating them rather than go in with a flat blade screwdriver, I'll have a closer look later.
Cheers

Right, before I go off all half-cocked and break something, how are you actually supposed to release the odd looking clips that hold the rear indicators to the tail piece - It's an FZ1 Fazer by the way, I'm trying to install a pair of Givi racks, which need the indicators moving, without hacking into the factory wiring .....
Cheers

Well now the rad's being fixed I guess I'd better look at giving it a bit of additional protection  :rolleyes - Any advice out there for the best guard to go for, R&G, Beowulf ?

I assume that the standard side covers work with either, just bin the original louvered plastic front piece and bolt on the new one

Cheers

Cheers Guys, I've found a place a bit closer to home in Preston, they've quoted me £40 +VAT so quite a bit cheaper than the e-bay 2nd hand or Chinky alternatives:

http://www.mrsheattransfer.com/

They seem to do all manner of stuff so I'll let you know how they get on with this.

So after travelling back from Inverness on the back of a truck, courtesy of the RAC, I'm now looking for a solution to a pierced radiator.

Any useful recommendations for replacements or repairs before I delve into the eBay minefield ?

Oh and in a fruitless attempt to stop coolant pissing out, I stuck a bottle of Radweld in it, I'm guessing best to flush this out before installing replacement rad

Cheers

Yeah that's the monkey Bruce, glad you found the spring tab , I ended up improvising with a couple of tiewraps until I can manufacture something more representative - or the original dislodges itself from the deep .... bodge seems to be working okay though :-)

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Thermowax unit .......AGAIN !!!!!!
« on: 24 January 2017, 09:22:04 pm »
Okay chaps, after a month sat in the garage the thermowax unit on my FZ1S seized up again.

So after stripping top half of bike to get at it, then forgetting to detach the return spring tab and spending half hour trying to retrieve it with a piece of bent wire, and then graunching and drilling out one of the two retaining screws, which I should have greased last time, before stripping/freeing/lubricating/reassembling it, then putting everything back together (no bits left over, whoop), has anyone any bright ideas how to stop the bloody thing seizing up again.

On the upside, bike now starts and idles as it should from cold so happy bunny ...

Not wishing to piss on anyone's chips like, but Mr Yamaha and his legal team might not like you selling stuff tagged with his intellectual property ...

So bit the bullet and shelled out some cash, Givi XS307 15litre quick release.

Looks a bit odd perched on the top of the tank, but hey ho does the job and piss easy to remove.

just one question - does anyone actually use the headstock strap or is it safe to take a stanley knife to it .... :lol

Cheers for that, the FZ1 tank is a bit of an odd shape and like you say the front section is plastic so not magnet friendly, hence a bit of worldly feedback from the Foccer collective.

Oxford and Held do velcro strap jobs, but that sounds a pain in the backside every time you need to fill up, particularly when it's pissing down and your gloves are sodden.

The quick removal ones with a filler ring look good just a bit expensive, my main luggage is a £15 Aldi dry sac ..... :)

So as per title, anyone particularly impressed by the form / fit / function of their tank bag - I'm after a medium sized one for all those touring odds n sods that dont necessarily belong in main luggage, small camera, waterproofs, diddy tool kit, phone, map etc, not sure whether magnets or straps way to go. Cheers Ian

A big Italian supertwin and a Carbon Fiber helmet to match.

Not wishing to diss' anyones ride, but what does that fairing look like in the flesh, not sure if it's the angle of the photo or the light, or the lens cover, but it looks distinctly odd ...

Sorry, but how the fuck are you supposed to be able to get the spare 10 Amp fuse out of its housing if you haven't got a pair of fuckin' tweezers ... Do Yamaha engineers not ride bikes in the real world ??????
