For Sale & Wanted / WANTED fzs600 radiator in working condition
« on: 27 April 2019, 05:28:50 pm »
Hi all

After my thread about the broken radiator pipe my attempt to fix it with JB Weld was not successful once the bike heated up. I am now therefore looking for a replacement radiator for the bike which is a year 2000 fzs600. Let me know if you have anything!
Cheers!Paul

Just as an update it is the earlier sv650 fork springs that are required for this- 98-02 carb SV650 linear springs. I will be doing my forks over the next week hopefully :-)

@vinnyb will be interested to see how you get on / what you think !

Just to say that the fork springs arrived, they were exactly the same length as the original springs and therefore I had to trim the spring spacers by 16mm to account for the valve emulators.

Is this still for sale and where are you based?

I was just going to reuse the copper washers- they dont appear to be deformed so fingers crossed. Ive taken the opportunity to strip and rebuild the forks completely along with re-spray and laquer so they now look like new. Will take pics along the way :-)

Nice one. I suspected as much, it was just the slight discrepancy between the two I was concerned about. I dont have donor forks or spare washers :-)

Did you modify the length of your fork spacer tubes for the mod?

Hi

Yes I would potentially be interested! Not too fussed about colour, black or red would be fine.

Cheers

Ah managed to salvage the mesh from the existing one and modify it so I can still use it! Thanks for the offer tho. The money saved will go towards the cartridge fork mod :-)

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Renthal low or ultra low?
« on: 11 December 2018, 12:35:45 pm »
Hi

I have ultra lows on my year 2000 boxeye- slightly lower but noticeably wider than stock. For me these are perfect as I did not have to change any cabling etc. The only point of note is that there are no locating holes in the bars so you have to either drill a hole in the bars or file them off the switch mounts- either way not a problem. I just filed them off and have no problems- preferred doing this over drilling a hole in the bars as then you are not committed to the position and not weakening the bars.

Not tried the lows, but a friend who has a Fazer 1000 said he could not fit the lows on due to cable lengths- just anecdotally!

Cheers for all the replies so far.

I am in between jobs on the bike just now- namely 2 snapped exhaust studs whilst removing the nuts so I am considering removing the head to get this along to a machine shop (go full stainless with new studs and nuts). Its on a long to do list including:

Forks- tidy up, all seals, linear springs and emulators mod, paint legs and fork crowns
Frame- touch up main frame with black where needed
Engine- stainless exhaust studs and nuts, valve clearance checks, painting of engine
Rear shock- R6 rear shock mod
Front wheel- Repaint, new tyre

Need to deal with the oil feed pipe too- the existing one is a bit rusty!!

Morning all

Was stripping the radiator off the bike to get access to the front of the engine and GODAMMIT one of the small aluminium pipes that comes out of the thing came off. It came off really easily and I can see why- its only a push fit into the rad itself- and with the length of pipe the leverage must have been too much.

As the rest of the radiator is in very good good nick (its the original radiator), I'm willing to go down the repair route for this. Now I have used a metalwork shop before for alu welding and I'm thinking this may lend itself to this as opposed to me having a shot with JB weld on the thing.

Has anyone else had a similar issue before?

Cheers in advance!

I'm just about to advertise a full rear setup for this very thing- R6 rear shock, dogbones, spacer and top hat spacers all there to fit an fzs600 1998-2003. I'll send you a message privately as well.

Cheers!

@Darrsi

What spot lamps are you running? I'm keen to get some and if you have a link to them that would be superb!

I have a yr 2000 SP Boxeye and would also be interested in how the other replacement bulbs are going?!

Cheers!

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Exhaust stud removal- should I attempt it????
« on: 15 August 2018, 11:47:17 am »
Thanks for the advice chaps- I have started this morning to feed the studs with penetrating oil and will do so for a fewweeks / months before I attempt the movement of the studs! Meantime I'll get on and do the fork service/ 15w oil/ fork leg painting etc. :-)

FZS600 Fazer / Exhaust stud removal- should I attempt it????
« on: 08 August 2018, 10:57:50 pm »
Hi All

My exhaust studs are rusty. The front on the engine could be doing with a bit of TLC and repainting. I'd like to deal with both, but as the bike is running well as is, I wonder if I start on doing these taks I'm opening a can of worms and potentially an engine needing removed in order to remove snapped studs.  Pics:

The middle two sets of studs are more rusted.

I really like the bike.

And yes, whoever mounted them overtightened the studs so that the plates holding the headers on are bent!! Some folk eh! :-s

What would you do?
