Decided to change the bottom bolt after all. Plenty of clearance now. Better safe than sorry....

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: FZ1 - Replaceing the rear and indicator bulbs w/LED:« on: 23 March 2021, 11:21:19 am »
I had problems fitting LED indicator bulbs to my Gen1. I was getting flickering at tick-over and the rear light would flash with the indicators on. The solution for me was to stop trying cheap Chinese LED bulbs from eBay and to buy some good quality ones. These are the ones I ended up with and they are great - very bright and no flickering at all.

Actually, I think I know what you mean. I seem to remember there are 4 seals that I think go either side of upper/front mounting point/bushings in the bracket. Interesting that they are not shown separately in the service manual or listed on Fowlers. I think I did put a bit of bearing grease on the bushes and seal lips.

Not sure what spacers you are referring to. The service manual doesn't mention the need for any lubrication but I usually put a bit of anti-seize on the engine mounting bolts.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Nice little upgrade« on: 22 March 2021, 09:09:15 am »Standard dog-bones or modified? Lowering dog bones (I'm a short arse). I had standard bones on with the R6 shock but needed to put the lowering (longer) ones back on for the Nitron as it isn't one of the adjustable ones. The R6 shock is shorter than the stock shock so standard bones worked fine. 57

He asked lots of questions, took lots of measurements, sent me on test runs and asked questions after each run. All I can tell you is that it worked a treat for me.... handles great now. 58

I have Nitron on my Tiger Sport.I am very tempted to do the same for the Fazer ... enjoy. Have you had the forks modified at all.P.S very clean too ... Royal Navy standard cleaning there! Top man I overhauled the forks in the winter. New seals, bushes, oil and Hyperpro progressive springs. 59

You could buy the proper colour matched paint in a touch up stick or a tin from RS bike paints.

The shock came with free fitting and set-up so I didn't fit it myself. Apparently it comes with a new bottom bolt in the kit. Was tempted to refit the original bolt, but cant see it being a problem because there is no lateral movement at that point so don't think the clearance is that critical. 65

Just overhauled he rear end with new swing arm and shock linkage bearings, pins and seals. Decided to upgrade the shock while I was at it.... R6 shock has gone into the spares box for now.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Coolant level« on: 11 March 2021, 08:49:52 pm »
For a valve type cap I guess it depends which seal fails. If the upper seal fails then coolant will leak out of the cap. If the lower seal fails then it will leak into the expansion tank. 68
Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Coolant level« on: 11 March 2021, 03:34:26 pm »The cap is an on/off valve but it shouldn't leak it will allow coolant into the expansion tank, via the expansion pipe. If the cap is leaking, in turn the expansion tank will try and replace the lost coolant and will either be empty as too much needs to be replaced or or lower, but as the cap leaks over time it will empty. Unless you add water which in itself is telling you, you've got a problem. Presumably the valve within the cap could fail but the upper seal remain intact? That could presumably result in no leakage from the radiator cap but 'blow off' of excess coolant through the valve at a lower pressure than specification. The excess going into the expansion tank and ultimately out through the overflow if enough of it? On the gen1 the cap is not just a cap, it is also a valve (with a specified pressure rating). Not sure about the Gen 2 though.... 69
Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Coolant level« on: 11 March 2021, 09:40:20 am »
I thought the rad cap was effectively a pressure relief valve. Surely if the "valve" goes weak it can open too early and cause overflow?

Just keep an eye on it. If it happens again, I would probably start by changing the radiator cap.

Their products are tested for every bike on the Dyno, so they are build specificaly for the bike I think they are a bit hit and miss. A friend bought a full system for his ER5 and had the same problem, but had previously had a Delkevic on his Fazer 600 with no issues. 72

My bike has a pipercross airfilter and an leovince sbk slip-on exhaust. Do i need the slip on kit or is the mb kit also possible. Both kits will work. The MB kit just requires more effort to modify the airbox and inlet rubbers. 73

Contacted them and got nothing but attitude; implying it was my fault. As if it's difficult to fit an end can and I haven't been spannering for 40+ years! Anyway, eventually got my money back and went for a Mivv GP titanium. Perfect fit and finish. Proves once again....buy cheap buy twice. 74

Any reason why you want to change to 320mm discs? It’s not a common mod so I suspect you will have difficulty finding the adapters - probably because the OEM brakes are already pretty good if well maintained.
