Thanks for all replies. Didnt get the time i wanted this weekend due to work. But had another tinker around , really wanted to drain oil and pull clutch but no time. :\  I did see possible and only possible slight movement in swing arm. If there was it was as i say very slight.
But took wee spin and im definetly thinking lay shaft , drive shaft area now. Its getting bad pulling away, Tick over fine, into first fine. Clutch out and it feel rough. Up gears and will settle when crusing , down gears ok. Start again and it cross fingers nothing breaks,  up to 3rd , pull clutch in and let her roll, all fine, just free wheels ,, let clutch out and it rough , definetly in drive area.
To be honest , if you felt what i was feeling pulling away,,, you wouldnt sit being me,, not close anyways.
So again thanks , and will keep update on where i go from here,,, time allowing.

:\  Well i was just about to agree with you unfazed ,but its back again. Took bike to work last night , taking it easy all good. When i say easy , just cruise mode, maybe not above 5ooo on revs.
Finished about half 4 this morning , roads quiet. Again not pushing it but maybe a bit more going up gears and it didnt feel good again. I would definetly say low gears , first up to third, fourth. Fifth and sixth not so bad and cruising about 60 not bad. But stop or slow down and pull again and its there. Definetly more of a grind , not a thumping but hard to say what side. Thats whats getting me at moment i cant say from where. And feeling is from both sides.
So going to have to give this more time and thought. Definetly going to have a look at clutch side,, just time i dont have much off.  :rolleyes

Well, as i said take for wee spin today,,, and i will be honest i didnt think i would make it to end of street. Even said to a friend i was just going to take it round block to see if i could tell more what side noise was coming from. Took it easy and went approx 10 miles ,, no noise. I stopped a couple of times just to put some pressure on it ,, nothing hard just smooth up gears. Nothing. So im stumped.

Happy yes, but i will say i was covering clutch and brake all way , just in case.
  • Sprocket nut was well torqued up , cant remember what it is without looking it up and locking tab in place. But with all posts ive read , with the noise and feeling i was sure it had came loose. But all tight and no movement.
  • Clutch cable and movement all good. Clutch plates are maybe just over a year old. Changed them just because of mileage , old ones were'nt too bad, still got them somewhere.
  • So next just to be curious im going to drain oil. Cant remember if ive got magnet on sump plug but will drain and see if any thing in there and will take cover of and have wee look in at clutch. Didnt get time for that today , would have been great to have done it as engine was warm.
  • Well big thank you for listening to me and replies. And ideas.  I will just take it easy when on her and see what happens,  Fingers crossed .  I will let you know if oil is clear and condition of clutch side.
  • Friend thinks im mad riding her , but cant tell anything with it sitting in shed.
Thanks so far. Catch in a bit.

Wee update. Got an hour this evening to into shed.
Onto paddock stand and checked rear wheel , chain sprocket and looked for any play. Nothing. Chain has done much millage , new Febuary this year. But i  did slacken and redo chain tension. All good and straight.
So engine sprocket,,, cover off and all good. To be honest this is where i was expecting trouble but i did upgrade on sprocket nut a while ago. Again i was spinning rear wheel and looking and listening for anything,, nothing. Played around with sprocket and couldnt feel anything , play or roughness.
So fired up and into gear while on stand,, and all good. There was the usual chain jumping a bit but nothing out of ordinery. Used my foot to put pressure on rear wheel (not recommended if you are wearing good boots) ,, nothing.
One last wee thing to try for night,, off stand,, into gear ,, front brake and see how she pulls. It would quite happily put me through side of shed,, but no grinding noise,, ahh :o :\ ,, good or bad ,dont know.
So tomorrow ill take wee spin to see whats happening when im on the move. Time for a beer and some head scratching.

:rolleyes  Well here goes. Went to work yesteday and engine felt wee bit rough. Felt like chain needed tightening, but had been done previous week.
Finished work, fired bike up ,, no problems,, into first and off i go,, :eek :eek ,,,, felt like engine sprocket had came loose.
Very slow acceleration , noise still there going up gears. Cruising at 50 ish and felt ok.
Stop at junction,, oh no problems going down gears,, pulled away and felt like someting grinding,, only under pressure.
So far,, no play in rear wheel,, chain ok,, engine sprocket ok,, upgrade done on that some time ago. Tickover no noise. Goes through gears ok.
Thats as far as time will allow me till week end. Oh high millage on engine. And clutch done last year.
Any ideas very welcome. Wont get time now till sunday , but suggestion will be greatfull and followed.
Off to work, on four wheels  :o :\ :\ .
oh,, couldnt tell which side noise coming from.

Another wee test for you to try. Side stand switch. You said you stopped so guessing side stand went down. So had wee look back on posts and on page 5, STARTER NOT WORKING , by festerbestertester.  Worth checking.

I took right hand corner out of fairing. First pic showing missing part wont load. After a bit of thought ,, i looked at a plastic bin and went for it. I cut both sides the same and then chopped bin down to fit. With a little help with Duck Tape :D :D . I then wire meshed the inside,, just melting mesh into plastic with soldering iron. The wee gap on outside face , mixed some fibre glass resin and hardner and ran it into the seam. Then a wee bit of rubbing down and some spraying and to me looks ok. Tested to see how it flex's and theres quite a bit,, as the good old plastic bin was flexable and thinner plastic. So now to get it all back together again. :) :)

FZS600 Fazer / Re: HOW FAR CAN YOU GO ON FLAT REAR TYRE
« on: 30 September 2022, 02:11:25 pm »
Yep, ive got one of these wee pumps , but had taken it out for something and didnt put it back. :rolleyes . Nice wee nick dead centre of tyre, nothing in it. Work "car park", term used lightly as its only a piece of waist ground has caused a few cars to have flats, but work wont do anything about it.
Havent take tyre of yet , will have to wait till weekend and see what its like. Just going for new tyre as this one does have a wee flat spot, so new one run in for winter.
But definetly one for shed wall as it got me home,,, with wee wibble and wobble. :) :lol .

Just a wee share. Finished work about half 2 in morning. Went to bike and flat rear,, punctured  :'( . Bit of pulling faces ,, 18 miles to home. Mixture of "A" and "B" roads , couple of junctions and roundabouts. Will it stay on rim  :rolleyes ,, time to try.
:)  and with a wee wibble and wobble  :lol and trying to go in as straight a line as possible ,, max speed around 25mph , made it home and still on the rim .  :) . Michelin Pilot 4,,, run flat tyres ,, YEP.

One posted, try two.

I may give vids one more attempt , one at a time. There short so should have posted.
Wee test run today all good. Happy Fazer  :) .
Thanks again.

Well. Carbs cleaned and one wee small dab of glue on a spot on diaphram 4. Didnt flex it too much but gave it close look.
Everything else looked ok on 4 so all back together and,,,,,, :) :rolleyes :)  so far so good. Tick over looks good and revs falling in time with throttle.  :)
So test run tomorrow and looking forward to it.
I took two small vids to show tick over and revs , but took them on my phone and cant get them to load. Says file size too big, but there only short vids. And my phone will not connect to this laptop.  Will try to get them on , somehow.
But after afew weeks of head scratching ,, getting there,, hopefully.
Big thanks to all support. Now tomorrow.

Thanks for replies and ideas on this. Due to waiting on brake seals im taking my time.
Carb port caps,, possible small hole in one but you have to blow dam hard ,, so idea for this is when i get round to starting her up again ill put heat shrink over and bend last 5mm or so over and then cap.
Possible carb 4 slider making different noise when just flicking them up and letting drop ,, but just slight difference. Havent taken apart yet just visual check.  Butterflies look ok open and shut ok . No difference using throttle to open and shut.
I did recently put new clutch plates in but to be honest didnt like them so old ones werent slipping or anything , just age so put them back in and keep new for spares if needed.
Carb rubbers to head all good as these arent to old, no cracks or splits.
So time for new carb cleaner and will take time and have a wee look inside. And clean the glasses first too :D :D .

Thanks Gnasher.  Will give it another going over and take time with it. Just stumped with whats gone wrong. And ever time i start it something different happens. Didnt take out today , but started it and it did,,, and just sat and ticked over.
But ive got the patience just need the time and ill get there.

:'( Well think ive lost the plot.  After not finding anything obvious i decided last couple of days to take bike to work. On wendesday , whatever i did i got the bike to start dropping revs to point it was only last 1000 or so that would be slow , so thought not too bad so off to work.
Half way to work stopped at shop,, went restart bike and tick over was about 2000 ,, i sat for a few mins to see if they would drop but stayed up so i lowered them back to 1100.
At work stopped and again revs stuck at 2000 :rolleyes ,, sat for a bit but again didnt drop so i lowered them again..
So thats now twice ive lowered the revs to achieve 1100 tick over,, why isnt it just not cutting out,, pass.
After shift started the bike and was expecting it not to tick over but it did. So off home. Home and still ok.
Today once again got to work and had to lower revs,, im now not getting this at all. But to add to it a simple thing , seal gone on rear brake :o :o .
After shift started bike and guess what,,,, it wouldnt tick over and after about 15mins trying to set it i gave up and came home with a few bump starts,
so im lost .
When i got the bike i had broken spark plug which was head of fix , back together and ran straight away.
Broken exhaust stud , again strip to fix, back together and ran straight away.
I never expected this so dont know what to do next.

22
Yep. Going to have another look over and hope to see something.
Had a look through internet last night and seems this can happen to all makes and models. One i read was more or less exactely what i said in first post.
So its a case of crossed fingers and hope something crops up. :)

23
:rolleyes  Well im still in limbo. Went back to start. all off. Timing was out and this was my mistake. When i put cams back in and lined up timing marks i hadnt noticed it had moved at alternator mark. I had just watched dots staying lined up on cams. Then turned over with hand afew times but didnt recheck timing marks. Both were 1 tooth out. So reset cams and yes checked timing marks and rechecked , twice all good.
So thought this would help ,,,, nope :'(
Ive checked carbs but have not pulled them apart as i never touched them to start with. Sliders are all ok and come down with the usual woosh sound. Flaps spring back and cables on in right order. Flick throttle and all good. Carbs back on and balanced all good. Checked TPS and sitting at 5..
Bike running and because im in shed give it a wee bit throttle and all seems good. Or as good as it used to be.
So test run. and few yards up road , first junction . and revs not falling quick enough. Slightly better but not right. If stop revs are still falling when im stationary.  Its not like cruise control,, as when i take speed up and just let throttle go it will slow down but far too slow . The last say 1000 down to tick over seem the slowest. Tick over is 1100 ,, this is slightly up from what i used to have. It was around 1000 but not above.
Ive had carbs of again :o  and again all seems ok. I did reset mixture screws to 2 turns out,,, just to see,,, and no difference.
Im stuck for ideas.

24
Ok.  Here we go again. Ill take of carbs and check them over again. And check throttle push/pull as i take them of just incase something there.
And strong coffee first,,, might help. :)

25
Well im no further forward with problem :rolleyes .  Circlip on carb 3 wasnt too tight, gave it about a quarter turn. Apart from that couldnt find any air leak . So decided to put carb tune on and see what that showed.  To be honest they werent too bad. Carb 1 was about the most out but not by much.
So tried another wee run and just the same, shut throttle and it runs on.
Now ive been doing a but of thinking and yep i may have small air leak somewhere, but is this possible,,,
when lining up timing marks when putting head together which were right just before final tightening and torque ,,, have i just knocked it off slightly.
The reason im now thinking this is im sure i read someone putting head back on and when tightening down cams the two small end dot you line up moved off slightly,,, but i cant find the post to see his problem.
Im sure i didnt move the alternator off its mark,, but now begining to question it.
If ive knocked timing off would it cause bike to not throttle down properly.   Any ideas.
Oh on short run i did open throttle a bit, and just as i thought it didnt want to pull , i wasnt expecting it too but just opened to see what would happen.
