General / Re: Daylight Only MOT?????
« on: 07 June 2012, 07:16:13 pm »
A ‘daytime MOT’ is the popular rather than official term used for a Ministry of Transport vehicle test which confirms your motorcycle is legally roadworthy for use only in daylight and conditions of clear visibility. If your bike meets the test criteria you will be issued with a normal MOT certificate but with an advisory note (a VT32) which confirms the daytime/ visibility restriction which applies. If you have a daytime MOT you may not legally use your bike on the public highway outside of daylight hours or at times of seriously reduced visibility.

To qualify for a daytime MOT your bike must “have neither front nor rear position lamps, or have such lamps permanently disconnected, painted over or masked.”  This applies to headlamps, position lamps and indicators. The situation with stop lamps is significantly more complicated. Machines do not need to have a stop lamp fitted if they cannot exceed 25mph, were first used before 1st January 1936 or were first used before 1st April 1986 and do not exceed 50cc. Those first used before 1st April 1986 must have a stop lamp that operates from at least one brake control and those used on or after that date must have a stop lamp operated from both brakes. There is an added if not widespread complication for bikes first used from 1st April 1986 which were approved with a stop lamp activated by one control. There were very few of these and test inspectors are instructed to fail a bike only if they are certain the stop lamp was designed to be operated by both brake controls and isn’t.

Hope this helps  :)

On page 3 of www.adviceguide.org.uk/c_motor_insurance.pdf from the CAB, it states you must inform your insurance company IN WRITING of any changes as soon as they occur.

From direct.gov:

If you use the electronic vehicle licensing service or tax by post at the end of the month, there’s now an exemption for not displaying a tax disc. This exemption covers the first five working days of the month to allow time for the new disc to arrive in the post. While you are still waiting for your tax disc you will need to display your current tax disc. The exemption only applies if applications are made before the current tax disc or SORN expires.

Back on topic - first action when on scene is to assess for danger, not just to the patient, but to you and others around you. From what you've described, don't think anyone would disagree with your assessment and course of action. Don't worry too much about the ambulance flying towards him, the information passed will have been very basic and probably over exaggerated and generated a high priority response code.

All from the legend that is Murray Walker

It's raining and the track is wet!

There are four different cars filling the first four places.

This is lap 54. After that it's 55, 56, 57, 58.

The gap between the two cars is 0.9 of a second which is less than one second.

This is an interesting circuit because it has inclines, and not just up but down as well.

Look up there! That's the sky!

The faster he goes the quicker he'll get to the pits. The slower he goes the longer it will take.

Twenty four points for Schumacher, twenty three points for Hill, so there's only one point between them if my mental arithmetic is correct.

As you can see, visually, with your eyes.

Either the car is stationary or it's on the move.

There is nothing wrong with the car except that it is on fire.

I imagine the conditions in those cars today are totally unimaginable.

I make no apologies for their absence. I'm sorry they're not here.

It's not quite a curve. It's a straight actually!

He can't decide whether to have his visor half open or half closed.

With two laps to go then the action will begin, unless this is the action, which it is.

He's here again for the first time.

And Michael Schumacher is actually in a very good position. He is in last place.

A sad ending, albeit a happy one, here at Montréal for today's Grand Prix.

64GB cards are available, but like most new developments, not as good value as the smaller cards (around £100, compared to £25 for a 32GB card).
Also 64GB cards use SDXC format which is different to the SDHC format of the smaller cards.

I would expect it to allow you to plug in a card and have that capacity plus the onboard 2GB available to use, eg 8GB card + 2GB onboard = 10GB available
On the charging question, always allow full out of the box use if possible. My mum still provides batteries for presents where needed, even those that come with 'demo' batteries supplied.

Has someone been good this year then? :)

Yup, the whole system is flawed. As are most systems which are based on honesty, decency and an ounce of common sense, as shown in the recent Trip Advisor documentary.

General / Re: ebay feedback question?
« on: 08 November 2011, 06:24:43 pm »
I think they need to move to a system where feedback is held 'in limbo' until both sides have left it. That way it eliminates the tit-for-tat negative feedback, but also encourages people to leave feedback. I've bought a few things from sellers, left feedback, thereby adding to their statistics, but they've not left feedback for me.

Would definately make it easier to find all the pertinent points in the ad and probably help the advertiser by prompting them to include information they might not have thought relevant :thumbup

X reg Corsa 1.2. Was brand new as they had a decent finance package and the first years insurance was free. Sold it after 7 months as I'd gone from young free and single to married with children and needed something a bit more family friendly :)

Looked into something along these lines after an accident at work left me unable to ride properly (Thankfully a couple of ops have sorted things)
How about something like these?
