Yes it says 45mm to 55mm in the haynes manual and also the bike manual. 45mm doesn't leave much play in it with me sat on it though. So if anything it's a little on the tight side.

Thanks for your replies. I think I will replace the chain and sprockets and see what it is like then.

Thanks for the reply. If I have the bike on the center stand in gear I can rotatate the rear wheel back and forth. This movement can be seen in the driveshaft with the cover off. It's about 2 teeth of movement on the front sprocket. I have read that other bikes do have driveshaft play but I'm not sure what is normal for my fazer.

Hi I'm trying to find out how much play there should  be in my driveshaft. ( the thing the front sprocket is connected to) as I am experiencing a kind of bouncing when I roll on and off the throttle as if my chain was way too loose. Chain tension is definatley fine (45mm at tightest spot). Also there is a popping sound when the 'slack' is taken up i.e accelerating hard or under engine breaking. My chain and sprockets do need replacing so I'm hoping their worn state is exagerating the effect of the hopefully normal play in the driveshaft. There seems to be more play in 1st and 2nd and less in all the other gears. Also people tell me my bike smells of clutch but I cant smell it. Anyone have experience of this? Thanks for any advice you can give.
