General / Difficulty Registring as a new member.
« on: 30 May 2020, 02:19:11 pm »
Another Fazer owner who wants to join here has been having great difficulty registering, manly due to the answer to the joining no security question about what products Arai and Shoei sell/make.

I've sent a pm to Mel, but so far not had any response - could anyone else out there shed any light on this as apparently Crash Helmets is not the right answer.

FZS600 Fazer / Brake disc thickness
« on: 04 May 2020, 02:21:20 pm »
just a quick question - the front discs on our Fazer 600 (15,500 miles) for all intents and purposes look brand new.

The bike hasn't been ridden hard, the pads are original and hardly worn and the brakes work perfectly.

BUT, when I put my digital vernier caliper on them today they both measured (within 0.05mm) 4mm thick. Checking in my Haynes manual, it lists the disc thickness as 5mm New with a minimum service limit of 4.5mm.

The rear disc is 4.97mm thick, with the same 5mm new, 4.5mm minimum limits listed in the Haynes.

I've never ever had a set of discs wear out on me in 45 years of riding (with a number of my bikes reaching +70k miles) and my FJ 12 discs were still perfectly in spec after 75k miles.

Is the info in the Haynes manual wrong? Or do I have a real problem with the front discs on the 600 ?

This year see's the 10th anniversary of my father's passing away, after living with (rather than "dying from") terminal cancer and being cared for by the fantastic Macmillan Cancer Nurses. Since then, my wife has also lost her father to cancer and we have seen many people that we know across the range of our contacts and lives, being impacted by the loss of someone close, to cancer.[/size]More recently, both of our mother's have been suffering with Dementia/Alzheimer's, such that they both need 24 hr care and since experiencing this ourselves, we have become acutely aware of the growing scale of this problem. The Alzheimer's Society provide support and research in the care and treatment of those who suffer and they need our help !Since 2008, Liz and I have organised a fully supported, annual 150 mile Cycle Challenge Ride, engaging over 250 riders to take part (and complete) and have so far raised well over £25,000 for these fantastic charities. As this year is the final time that we will be running this event, I thought I'd make a final plea to our fellow Fazer lovers, for your continued help and assistance in raising as much as we can to help, by simply making a donation in support of our efforts, however small or large (anything is greatly appreciated) - using the Just Giving sponsorship links below. So - many thanks for your previous, and current help and please Ride Safe and Live Long.Just Giving Link to sponsor our group and raise funds for the Alzheimer's Societyhttps://www.justgiving.com/fundraisi...nd-liz-welburnJust Giving Link to sponsor our group and raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Supporthttps://www.justgiving.com/fundraisi...burn-macmillan

Hi All. Over the weekend of 27th-29th May, my wife and I have organised (for the 10th consecutive time) an annual 150 mile Cycle Ride across the UK from "Coast to Coast", to raise money for a very deserving cause - Macmillan Cancer Support. Many here know this, but for those who don't, Macmillan provide free care and support, both at hospital and in-home, for cancer sufferers (and where necessary, their families) which is only made possible by people making donations and carrying out fundraising activities.Liz and I have both lost our father's to Cancer, in both cases their suffering lasted a period of years, rather than weeks - and we have a number of other family members and friends who have also suffered and who benefited tremendously from the support that the Macmillan Nurses provided. We have somehow managed once again to get another 25 riders to take up the challenge with us (most of whom have links to someone who has been supported by Macmillan) and we're looking forward to a great challenge, as well as great fun (over 13,000ft of ascent).I've attached a link below to our "Just Giving" donations page and while thanking those who donated last year , we hope that there are plenty of members here who will feel inclined to help us in the cause and make a donation (or "another donation", for those who have supported us in previous years) no matter how small, or large, everything will be greatly appreciated. So here's a "thank you" in advance and the link to our donations page.https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Dean-Liz-Welburn-C2C-2017

General / Macmillan Cancer Support
« on: 26 May 2016, 01:50:17 pm »
Afternoon all,

This weekend I'll be cycling around 150 miles, from Whitehaven to Sunderland, with another 25 riders that my wife and I have conscripted - all to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Both Liz and I have lost our fathers to cancer in recent years, as well as other friends and relatives, and we can't thank the Macmillan Nurses enough for the help and support they've given to all cancer patients.

To help them, we're doing this challenge to raise as much money for them as possible, so that they can keep on helping all of our families, friends and colleagues, through their suffering.

We would greatly appreciate it if you could find it in your hearts to help this fantastic charity by making a donation (however large or small) through our Just Giving page, using the site below.

Many thanks in advance and all the best to everyone.

Introduction / New member family
« on: 13 April 2014, 03:00:54 am »
Morning All,

Just a quick intro hello - although I don't own a Fazer "personally" (I have a FJ 1200 and an Aprilia RSV) I'm still a big fan, having bought a Fazer 1000 for my wife and a Fazer 600 for my son.

The 1000 was bought in 2003 and is in superb shape. It's been toured extensively, Liz has done few laps of the Nurburgring on it and she used it for work when she was bike instructing, as well as being just her pleasure riding toy.

This is the 600 I bought for my son when he passed his test 2 years ago (as he was only just over 17, it had to be restricted to 33bhp - but, today he rode it for the first time in full power mode)  :)

We were very lucky with this one, having bought it from our best friends in as-new condition, even at 9 years old (but only 10k miles). I fitted the rack and then put his mums top box on it (for carrying things to school) and the exhaust can (to save the original).

Great bikes.

The 600 had a low speed tumble on the left last year (early/young rider silly tip-off) which put some minor scratches on it, but nothing serious - just to keep it in top nick, I'll be looking for some replacement parts.

Cheers.
