Yep, if you DoD the CBT on a ped, then that's all you can ride. It also needs renewing every 2 years.

I thought once you've done a cbt it covers you for any learner category for 2 years i.e. do it on a moped at 16 and you don't have to do another to ride a geared 125 at 17?

Cheers Fuzzbom,
Sportsbikeshop was where I went as they are in Boston where I live.
Cheekpads weren't a problem, it was around the brow. Large was just far too tight all over, Xl too loose around the brow. They could order a thicker crown liner from the uk importers, who would have to ship it in from japan, but it could take 12 weeks to arrive! They said they would do it for me though with no obligation, so it's still an option.

Hi sure2ride,

Well I might just go and try one of those as we seem to be of similar head shape!!

I've just always wondered on those type of helmets if the space created for the internal sun visor weakens the shell around that area?

And yes, I'll take on board your point on the 10 minute thing.

Anyone got a HJC R-PHA10? Just wondering how people had got on with them?

The Shoei XR1100 that I wanted just doesn't fit right.

I've tried numerous other brands on but the HJC seems to fit best (so probably a no brainer really!)

Thing is it only gets a 3 star rating on the SHARP website and I'd always thought they were a budget brand. Having said that Lorenzo and Spies race in them.

Won't affect you Robbie, but the other thing to consider if towing and you don't have b+e on a post '96 licence is that the permissable gross laden weight of the trailer must not exceed the kerbweight of the tow vehicle

Sadlonely git,
Your design reminded me of my old 250LC with it's red and white colours. Not suggesting you you copy it (although feel free!!), but may help with ideas, even if it helps you to decide not to do something.

Bbrown,
I think my lads trouble will be he wants a DRZ400sm, so it's the same sory as his Dt125sm - classed as a hooligan tool and high theft rate. Keep trying to persuade him to look at something more sensible, just like my Dad did when I was 18. I bought a 250LC though!

Lazarus,
In my experience, none of them seem to want to hold onto business, but you can always seem to get a good offer for new business!
Just a case of playing their game and keep swapping around each year. It's just difficult sometimes when your circumstances change part way through a year and they don't want to know.

Don't know about transferring it to a car, but I was ringing around for my son last night for his Dt125 which he has already had for a year and places were accepting that he had 2 years no claims (he had a moped at 16)

What I did find, that even without pillion cover, was that even though he has now passed his bike test I was still struggling to beat the premium he paid last year.
I can understand why the price of insurance goes up when you pass a car test, but I thought bikes might go down quite a bit. Apparently not!

« on: 11 January 2013, 06:53:08 pm »
Been to the mot station today and the guy checked it out, all was legal (2mm tread left) and he stamped the ticket for us to send off.
He did say that I had a case for taking it up with the police, but also said that could make my son a future target for getting pulled again. His advice was to send it off and let that be the end of it.

He is going to sell it and get something bigger when he can afford it anyway. Nothing mental, he wants a drz 400 sm.

I/my son didn't have any problem with the original stop for no L's, because you can see why they would do that.

Pitternator,
I suppose he could have been looking out for him, but then surely a friendly word would be the thing to do, not issue a ticket for something that wasn't illegal? And that is the point, the tyre wasn't illegal, the copper didn't check it properly and issued a ticket anyway. I knew we would soon need to change it unless he sells the bike soon (would still maybe change it anyway to help the sale along).
Also, how old is the tyre you ask? Well, it's a year old. We but a brand new bridgestone BT45 on it about 6000 miles ago, just after my son bought it.

Anyway, hopefully all sorted now. Thanks for replies and comments

Probably!
I think ultimately now he's passed his test he needs to get rid of the 125 for something bigger, then he'll not get stopped for having no L plates

Ok, just been to the station with my son, but all the traffic officers were out doing traffic stuff!

We did manage to speak to an 'experienced' officer who suggested that we take photographic evidence of the tyre and then take the bike to be checked at our MOT station and as there is no defect, get them to fill out the defect form as if the defect has been rectified and send it off.

He also said that the issuing officer should have made a note of tyre make, model and serial number and measured the tread with a gauge before issuing the ticket. My son is adamant that he did none of these.

I suppose my only concern is that by doing this we acknowledge there was a fault, and even though the ticket was issued incorrectly, that the incident is recorded against his name?

White HO/RT 1 for the producer (documents) and pink 'vehicle defect form' for the tyre. Both with same document number.

That was my first thought bigsteve, but is that just asking for the copper concerned to pull him over again?

Hello people,

Has anyone had an experience like the following?

Last night my son was stopped by the police on his 125. The reason given for stopping him was because he didn't have any 'L' plates on. Son explains to the copper that he has passed his test. Copper says he believes him but gives him a producer anyway (fair enough I thought)

He then looks around the bike. My son is told that his back tyre is illegal and is given a ticket that requires him to get the defect repaired (i.e. a new tyre) and get the ticket stamped by an MOT station, before sending off to the relevant authority. No gauge is used to decide it is below the legal limit, just a look under torch light.

Now I know his tyre wasn't illegal, because I only checked them for him at the weekend, but I went out tonight and check them again anyway. At the the lowest point of the tread, which is around the centre of the tyre, my gauge was reading 1.8-2.0 mm.

I know most people start to think about changing at this sort of tread depth, but the point is it wasn't down to the 1mm legal limit.

I'm assuming I could take it to a MOT station and get it checked and the ticket stamped, but how much hassle is that going to cause if he gets stopped and checked by the same officer again, who clearly will think he hasn't had an illegal tyre replaced, even though it wasn't illegal?

Must point out, my son said the officer was pleasant and chatting with him, and was a biker himself.

Think I've solved it.

I had a good look through all the paperwork I got with the bike and found the original owners name and managed to get his number.
He de stickered the bike from new, so another owner must have put those on.
Thanks to all that replied,

Mustard

Cheers Lazarus,
I would say that price is good comparing to what original Yamaha ones for my son's Aerox when he slid it down the road last year.

Thanks for those replies.

Log book says registered in uk from new. It was HPI clear, not that that means it couldn't have had a repair.

I'll check with Yamaha if I can and maybe order some FAZER stickers if the others aren't lacquered over.

Don't think I need the R1 forks yet Jackojet, it seems to handle ok at the moment, but then I've just come from an older style (teapot) GSXF600 that was maybe do for a fork and shock overhaul!

Ghostbiker,
Pic attached hopefully, if not I'll do it tomorrow on laptop rather than phone.

Whale,
Think it is fzr. If it is an import how could I find out? Chassis number and a Yamaha dealer?

Thanks for replies,

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / strange fairing stickers?
« on: 19 July 2012, 08:36:34 pm »
Hi,
I bought a 53 plate 1000 fazer about 3 weeks ago (and lovin it!).
I wonder if someone can help. The sticker on the fairing says 'FZR', with 1000 exup underneath in small writing.
Everyone other one I've seen says 'FAZER' on the fairing. Why is mine like this?
Thanks,
mustardbufc
