15000 miles is nothing in modern motorcycles. And it looks nice and clean. I don't think a dealer would give you anything near its worth, may be £2k - £2.5K (they also have to make a profit).
I'd adversise it for £3.25K - £3.5K, just so you've got a bit to play with. Buyers will always think they're winning if you knock a few hundred off your asking price!
Where is the bike situated? From your name, I take it it's somewhere near a coast.

What are the length of your dog bones?? And what's the total length of the shock (hole centre to hole centre).
It looks very much like the R6 shock with what looks like to be the same adjustments.

I did the R6 mod and was surprised how short the dog bones had to be to get the corrrect ride height, I'm now down to 124mm.

« on: 15 June 2012, 04:30:34 pm »
If your heart's not in it... you should sell up and spend the time with your old man doing up the classic. I bet he'd love that.
They say a change is as good as a holiday, and there's always other bikes out there if you do decide to get back into it again at a later date. And looking at your bike, it looks like you've done an excellent job, and I'm sure the BSA would give you greater pleasure because you'll be building it up with your Dad.

I recently sold my off road bikes which I said I'd never sell, but my priorities changed, and now I'm nearly ready to go riding with my son who's wheelchair bound for the very first time! Which makes it very easy to forget the off road bikes!

So don't hassel about it too much, there's sometimes more important things in life to do.

Whichever way you decide. Good luck!

I took my hot air gun and mini roller and slowly and carefully made a bit of a raized section on the outer edge. Works a treat!

I also made up my own 'special tool #7'. I stay in Hinckley, so if you're colse and want to lend it, no problem. If it's just seals and oil you want to change, it's a piece of piss to do, even for a back yard mechanic !

Luke
Even though I didn't buy any R6 rear shock bits from you, thanks for all the advise.
My settings are a bit diffetent because I'm building a sidecar onto the side of my Fazer Gen1. Luke advised trying first setting 5 and then go up or down depending on the ride. Setting 5 feels great.
And I also made up a set of shorter than normal dog-bones to keep all the backend height.

Compared to the oem shock... someone needs to slap the engineer who decided to put that original shock in the FazThou!!!
 :)
Thanks Luke

Now who can help me with the tic...tic...tic...tic noise comming from the cam area????

For Sale & Wanted / Wanted:- Fazer 1000 Gen1 Bottom Yoke
« on: 27 May 2012, 11:53:07 pm »
Wanted
I'm looking to put another set of front forks onto my bike and need a spare centre steering stem. I hope I can find a spare stem and use in a set of Yam FJ1300 yokes.

So if anyone has one they don't mind getting rid of, send me your asking price.
Fazer1000 gen1 bottom yoke with centre steering stem, or the steering stem by itself, I don't mind, drop me a message.

Thanks
Andrew

Just finished fitting the seat belt in my Fazers sidecar. Easy, just time consuming.

« on: 25 May 2012, 05:04:39 pm »
Hi to All

I've just put a post in the introduction section, so this is my second post.

The Fazer thou is a great bike until it hits a bump in teh road  :eek  Watch out in the high speed corners as well  :eek  They can start the bike wollowing and it can get VERY scary!!!

And now I have a sidecar attached to my Fazer thou, it's amplified the problem. So after trawling the forums and internet, I'm going the same route as many of the forum members and getting a R6 (13S) rear suspension unit. I'm actually picking one up tomorrow. My question is.... If the spring is still to weak, can I buy another stronger spring. And what length dog-bones will I need to keep the correct ride height?

Thanks for a great forum, it's going to provide many hours of good reading.

Have a good weekend everyone  :)

Introduction / Howzit!!!
« on: 25 May 2012, 03:05:53 pm »
Hi to All
From the heading, some of you might have realised I’m originally from sunny South Africa. I've been here in the UK for the past 10 years with my wife, Tash, and two kids, Dylan (16) and Megan (13and3/4 LOL!)
I've been registered with a few forums in the past, and I think the old foccers forum was one of them.

But here's my Fazer history....
My whole life has revolved around bikes, as far back as I can remember bikes have been in the family. I had to sell my collection to afford to come over to the UK, 2 X Yam RD YPVS 350's, RD125, RM250, YZ250, KTM250, KTM500 and RGV250VJ21, but the Yam500 came with me.
I was only here about a year before I bought my first KTM640, (I refered to it as a heavey turd) and sold it a few months later, only to buy another KTM but a 300cc 2-stroke this time. What a lovely bike. I regret selling it. But it was from that sale, I bought my Fazer1000.

The actual reason why I now have a Fazer, and the reasom why we came to the UK, is because my son has Anglemans Syndrome and Great Ormond Street Hospital wanted to see him yearly, so we sold everything up in SA and came here. And we're loving every minute of it. Thankfully my work is international so a company transfer was arranged and 10 yrs down the line, everything's still going well.

My son was 6 years old when we arrived and had no interest in bikes, but as he's grown older, his fascination for bikes has increased where he now wants to go riding.
So I had to arrange (and sell) a few things to get him in a seat.
He's in a wheelchair, so it would have to be a sidecar, and he's +80Kg, so the bike would have to be strong enough to pull us both (and the sidecar would need a few adjustments to suit his needs).

So the KTM300 was sold (Oh! I miss her soooooo much...) but I keep telling myself it was for a good cause. So the search for a suitable bike started.

The Fazer was found and bought in the pub after a few beers  :rolleyes , it’d been crashed and the insurance wanted to scrap it, but the owner at the time said no. So he didn’t put it through his insurance, he started to rebuild it himself. When I say started, what I mean is that he bought the new panels for the bike, top and tail faring and that's about it.
It’s a 2005 model with the black frame and motor, first registered in Aug 2005. The cost was £2000.

Once the bike was back at my place and had a closer look, there was a bit more damage than first meets the eye. The bottom front engine mount was bent, and bottom front engine mountings broken, the steering stem was also slightly bent (I couldn’t even feel this on the test ride??? And, no, it wasn’t after a pub visit). There were a few other small bits that required attention that I managed to sort out myself. But after an extra £500 thrown at the bike it’s come out OK and turned into a brilliant bike. I love it.

The sidecar was another story, but to cut it short, it’s a 1975 original Squire sidecar that I’m busy modifying to suit Dylan’s needs.

I now have the sidecar mounted on the Fazer and we’re reaching that point where I can take him on his first ride, the sidecar's mounted, the electrics are complete, the seat belts are in, A new screen is in my garage, and it’s just passed its MOT. So it’s registration time, and then onto the road!

The next big hurdle is getting a helmet on him LOL!!! We’ll have to wait and see what he thinks about that! LOL!!!

And that's where I am at the moment. Yes it's taken 3 years, but as you all with familys know, these things can be put on the back burner sometimes.

But if Dylan, for whatever reason, does not like it, the sidecar can come off and I'm left with a smashing bike to ride (or sell it to get my 300 back)

Thanks for reading that, and I hope to chat with you all soon.

Andrew (and Chairman Dylan)
