General / Thanks, over and out!
« on: 29 December 2017, 11:10:03 am »
I sold my bike yesterday, FZS600 1999. I had it since February 2015, it was my first bike since 2002 and i rode it all year around as it was my only transport. The FZS600 are great bikes, I loved mine but time came to move on to a car again, health issues, partner and changes in work etc. I would definitely buy one again, though maybe if i do, next one would be fox eye for the better lights. Anyway, thanks to all the help and patience to everyone on here with my questions/posts over the past 2 years, this forum was a goldmine of info and experience. All the best.

FZS600 Fazer / Replace rear brake disc with wheel still on?
« on: 22 May 2017, 11:17:58 am »
Is it possible to replace my rear brake disc with the rear wheel still in situ? I don't think the bolts will be hard to get off as they were taken off not long ago to swap a disc which turned out to be slightly warped. Now I have a brand new disc and I just want to unbolt the old one with wheel still on but axle pulled out a bit to allow it to slide off and slide new one in place and bolt it all back up. Is that possible?

FZS600 Fazer / oil consumption
« on: 19 May 2017, 09:28:12 pm »
Been reading that owners "top up " their engine oil between recommended oil changes. I've never topped mine up in between changes, didn't think I had to.I could never see my oil level in the engine cover window, even when it had it's last service by the garage in September, the window seems too discolored to tell. I watched them change the oil and filter though so I know it was done. The oil light has never come on. The bike runs fine. Should I be worried about topping it up?

FZS600 Fazer / rear preload adjustment
« on: 21 April 2017, 06:35:09 pm »
I've been doing two up riding lately, mainly because my girlfriend will now come on the bike since the weather has warmed up. I think rear suspension might need adjustment, although my gf is petite, the extra weight on the rear seems to make the rear of the bike lower. In the attached photo, does it look as if it's set quite soft already? How many notches to should I turn the adjuster to improve rear suspension for two up riding?

So this is my fuse box at home, its a very large house been divided into flats and each flat has a fuse box like this. I want to know which fuse is for what? I am assuming the 5A fuse is for lights? What is the red 30A fuse for? is the blue 15A for wall sockets?

FZS600 Fazer / Fitting some hand guards
« on: 22 January 2017, 11:57:09 am »
I got a set of these
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-Universal-7-8-22mm-Handlebar-Motorcycle-Bike-Handguards-Hand-Guards-Protector-/371841531733?hash=item56937b7f55:g:LrIAAOSwZQRYfcHA

They bolt on to the end of the handlebar weights no problem but I am having problems with how to attach to the handle bar at the other end. The metal attachment strip provided is too short to reach the mirror mount on my handlebars/brake/clutch lever assembly.

But even if it did, I don't know what size bolt fits the mirror mount! any suggestions on how else I can attach the hand guard on that side of it as I am stuck on how to proceed.

FZS600 Fazer / water in tank problem
« on: 13 November 2016, 09:26:47 am »
The last week or 2 I have noticed water has filled around the rim of my fuel tanks filler cap when I have opened it to fill with fuel. It never used to have water collecting there, so I can only assume there is a blockage in the drainage system from the filler cap. I reckon water has got into my fuel tank too, that would explain why the low revs stutter has returned.
My question is, what should now be my procedure? How do I make sure water is removed from my tank and do I need to drain the carbs? If so how do I do that?

FZS600 Fazer / Chain life
« on: 18 October 2016, 06:49:16 pm »
How does one know when the chain needs to be replaced, apart from if it breaks or if the adjusters are screwed very far back on the swinging arm? Mine is just a notch before the middle adjustment marker on the swing arm. I have had the bike for 18 months, i only seem to have to adjust the chain every 4 or 5 months as it doesn't seem to stretch much with my riding style although I have put about 4000 miles on it at least.

FZS600 Fazer / Spluttering at low revs
« on: 12 October 2016, 06:52:10 pm »
I have a 1999 FZS600 I have owned it for 18 months and it is now on 70,000 miles. Recently it has developed a spluttering power delivery in low revs, typically below 2000rpm and usually when cold but it has happened a few times now when the engine is fully warmed up, which has prompted me to post here.

Since ownership i have always used standard 95 unleaded fuel. never had a problem. The bike starts usually first time, amazingly and tick over is fine, no problems with that. It is just really when pulling away, in first and in low revs in second gear in traffic, it seems very boggy and splutters until it gets up to 3000rpm. Not every time, but its happening more often now.

Where do i start to check for solutions to this issue? electrical or fuel related?

FZS600 Fazer / Rattle/vibration noise
« on: 22 August 2016, 05:22:07 pm »
The past couple of weeks my 99 fzs600 has had a bit of a rattle occuring, it seems a bit more obvious when cold but also it can sound like a vibration. I took a video of the bike being revved just now, this was after a 20 minute ride, so it sounds more vibey than rattly but you can definitely hear it best toward the end of the vid.
I am not sure what it is but could this be my camchain being loose?

FZS600 Fazer / Clutch yet again (sorry)
« on: 10 April 2016, 05:17:43 pm »
So i got my bike back from the garage on thursday. Some people may know, i had a new set of clutch plates and springs fitted (EBC parts) i rode it home, fine. I rode to work and back friday (30 miles) all fine. I went out on a ride today, about 50 miles. All was fine until about 35 miles, after that everytime i gave a handfull of throttle in any gear, the clutch would slip badly making the engine revs etc. The garage who drilled the bolt out for me, adjusted the clutch cable for me on thursday, they test drove it before i got it back.

So why would my newly installed clutch start slipping now, after 2 days of riding fine, then  at the end of a long ride it starts slipping every time I try to open it up?

FZS600 Fazer / New clutch not working at all!
« on: 25 March 2016, 03:58:16 pm »
HI All, today i tried to renew my clutch but since putting it all back together and starting up, my clutch does not seem to engage at all.

I followed this video

basically, I drained my oil, removed oil filter and fitted new oil filter. Then took clutch cover off, removed clutch springs, pulled off old pates and put in my new (soaked in oil plates). Followed the video, starting with one friction plate, then steel plate, then judder spring, then the friction plate, steel plate until all on the basket. Replaced springs with new ebc uprated ones, tightened it all up. new gasket, put clutch cover back on, Put new oil in and started it up on centre stand. With the clutch lever pulled in, in first gear the back wheel was spinning. Used a bit of throttle and pulled clutch lever in at same time, nothing happened. Put bike off the stand, slowly let the clutch lever out in first gear, nothing, the bike did not react.

I have tried the clutch lever adjustment screw both ways to max/min with no change. Also tried the screw and lock nut under the rubber cover on sprocket case, still nothing. There is good tension in the cable when clutch lever pulled in, i.e. it feels like the cable travels  as it used to.

Any help or advise on what I may have done wrong or should check?

General / Lit cigarettes being thrown from cars
« on: 29 February 2016, 05:59:11 pm »
Has anyone ever been hit by a lit cigarette (or any rubbish) being thrown from a car at all? I was behind a car today who threw one which narrowly missed me, just wondered if anyone ever had one in the face or anything and if you did anything about it?

FZS600 Fazer / Welding exhaust
« on: 17 February 2016, 06:15:29 pm »
Just want to know if on the header pipes of the exhaust, where the 4 pipes join on that straight bit of pipe there I have a small hole from corrosion, can these be welded up to give a bit of time until I am ready to buy replacement headers? it is on the underside of the pipe so it would not be seen. The bike sounds a bit louder since this hole appeared a couple of days ago.

General / midlife career changes
« on: 04 February 2016, 10:25:54 pm »
Anyone ever done it? I am getting sick of open plan office's and computers. I feel like I need to be in a workshop somewhere, doing restoration work or creating things. It's probably my midlife crisis knocking but I just wonder if the grass is really greener or just a different kind of stress?

General / Paddock stands for a 99 FZS600
« on: 10 January 2016, 06:40:13 pm »
Can anybody advise if these paddock stands sets will be ok to use with my FZS600? Especially in regards to being able to remove the front wheel? I figured I might as well get a set as I have some jobs to do and if I get a set now I can use them when I need rather than having to keep taking it into the garage etc. I am not keen on using a car jack or any kind of make shift jack, or putting weight on the exhaust. If these are not suitable anyone know of a set of front and rear stands for less than £60?

General / usb heated gloves
« on: 08 January 2016, 06:59:28 pm »
So I have just been thinking about this, as a rider who rides all year around. This morning was particularly cold. These gloves worn inside your usual winter bike gloves, powered by a usb power pack. Links to what I am talking about below.

Any thoughts on this idea?

FZS600 Fazer / standard exhaust end can loose
« on: 28 December 2015, 03:14:19 pm »
I just came back from a ride out and when i went to feel if the silencer was still hot before i put my bike cover on, I was able to wobble the end can by just lightly pushing it in toward the wheel. I noticed this movement was happening at the point where the end can slips on to the black exhaust pipe. Is this normal this kind of movement only I have not noticed it before? Is my end can on its way out or already knackered?
