For Sale & Wanted / Wanted Fazer 600 Foxeye TPS
« on: 04 August 2015, 04:34:07 pm »
My TPS is starting to play up. I have checked it iaw the Manual and the overall resistance is out of limits at 7.5K Ohms and when I set it up to 5000 on the Rev Counter (Diagnostic Test) then put a meter between the centre (Yellow) and upper (Blue and Black) and turn the throttle the readings jump all over the place (Manual says should go from 0 to 5000 ohms)
Even if I just have the leads fitted and don't touch the throttle and tap the side of the TPS the reading jumps about.
I've seen one in a Breakers for £38. But hoping somebody might have a spare lying around.
Cheers

FZS600 Fazer / "Excellent Condition" I don't think so
« on: 11 July 2014, 08:45:43 pm »
I'm looking for another Foxeye. Saw this one advertised as Excellent Condition. As it was 150 miles from me I asked for some close up pictures. Just as well. His idea of Excellent Condition and mine are somewhat different.
The surface paint flaking might only be superficial, but the advert is deceiving.

For Sale & Wanted / Daytona Boots Size 8 and 10.5 Sale
« on: 29 May 2014, 12:43:59 pm »
Saw these on Ebay. They are having a clear out. I have had a set of these for 15+ years and after initial break in have been extremely comfortable and never leaked. They only have a pair of 8's and 10.5 left. They are normally £299.

Apologies to Moderators you might want to move this into the For Sale section.

FZS600 Fazer / MRA Screen Foxeye
« on: 26 April 2014, 03:05:00 pm »
I know it's been done to death. But on the Shetland rideout with Chris last Sun, normal cruising speed was fine. But on the home run I was up at slightly illegal speeds for 1/2 hour and the wind noise was quite annoying. I have a DB screen on at the moment. Some of it is probably my HJC HQ-1 helmet. Has anybody got the MRA screen below fitted. Secondly does anyone have one in there shed/garage I can borrow to try. Bit expensive to buy and find it doesn't make a noticeable difference.

General / Took the long way home after work.
« on: 07 August 2013, 03:24:10 pm »

After weeks of Fog and low temps we have got some sunshine at last. Took the long way home after work. 10 miles of lovely scenery and windy roads. Shetland is a different place when the sun is shining.

FZS600 Fazer / Front Sprocket Nut
« on: 08 July 2013, 11:20:52 am »
I joined the Forum when I was searching for an answer for my bike missing. Thanks to the folk on the site I found that my plug caps were braking down. Replaced and bike is running sweet again. Looking through the site I noticed that the front sprocket nut can be an issue. My bike has only done 3600 miles but it is 10 years old. Before I take the cover off can somebody tell me what I'm looking for. Even better does somebody have a picture of a before and after sprocket nut replacement.

General / Fazer 8 or FZ1S
« on: 25 June 2013, 11:18:50 am »
Chatting with a few mates last night and considering doing a European Tour next year. Love my 600 but think I might be better off with a bigger bike to do it. I like both the Fazer Z1S and Fazer 8. Is there anyone who lives near Aberdeen who has a Fazer 8 so that I can see one in the flesh. Any comments/opinions welcome.

Hi Folks. Insurance renewal time. I've been with Carol Nash for years. Just thought I would ask an open question who uses who and why? Apologies if it has been covered before.

FZS600 Fazer / Another Stutterer
« on: 17 June 2013, 04:25:54 pm »
I've just joined the Forum and as I stated in the Introduction Forum I found this site when I Google searched with my symptoms. My FZS 600 is a 2003 only 3500 miles on the clock and I've owned it for 2 years. It has a K+N filter and has a Beowolf Can with baffle in. It was fine last year. Because of work and weather I put it into the shed last October.
Brought it out last month and put her through an MOT. Now this is where the fun starts, NOT!!!
When I first ride it there doesn't seem to be a big issue. But after riding for a couple of miles if I quickly open the throttle the bike judders like a misfire and will judder continuously through the rev range. Whilst it is juddering if I back off the throttle slightly and then open it up slowly it will more often than not be okay. But as soon as I try and do a quick increase it bogs down.
I experimented and found from a standing start if I gently eased the throttle up through the revs and gears it will operate as far as I can tell normally all the way to full throttle and redline (and illegal speeds). Also sitting in Neutral after the stuttering has started if I whang on the throttle there is a stutter at the start before it picks up. But same again if I open the throttle slowly it appears to rev ok.
After trawling through the forum and seeing what other people have done here is a list of what I've tried with no success so far :-

Replaced Plugs
Cut back 1/2" on Coil Leads and refitted Plug Caps (Screw and coil cable copper look good),
Removed tank and emptied old fuel out. Looked inside an tank base is clean as a whistle.
Removed Fuel Tap and checked filter.
Inspected K+N Filter
Visually checked fuel filter
Removed Carbs and removed Main Jets and the Metal Tube underneath it, Needle Jet? or Emulsion Tube?
Removed the other jet beside it. Pilot Jet?
All where clean with no signs of any contamination.
Inspected Inlet and Air Filter Box Rubbers. No obvious sign of cracks or perishing.
Reassembled everything and put a fresh couple of gallons of fuel in the tank.
Started pretty quickly but a few minutes into a test ride and the symptoms are back.
I haven't taken the top of the carbs off and checked the Diaphrams because I don't know what to check or what I'm looking for.
Would a dodgy fuel filter cause these issues. I have discounted this for the moment because I thought the fuel in the float bowls would initially keep the engine going and then it might fade later if the fuel filter couldn't keep up with demand.
Pump sounds ok when ignition switched on, it pulses away and seems to hold fuel pressure.
I'm getting to the limit of my Mechanical skills and am running out of ideas.
I was thinking of trying it with the baffle out to see if it makes any difference or buying an original paper air filter and refitting the original can.
But I think I'm clutching at straws because it ran fine with this set up last year.
Apologies for rambling on.
Any input extremely welcome.
Cheers
John S

Introduction / Newbie from the Shetland Islands
« on: 17 June 2013, 03:33:11 pm »
Hi Folks. Hope you don't mind me hijacking your owners club. I have a 2003 FZS 600 Fazer which I  have owned for a couple of years. Love it. Would probably only swap it for it's bigger sister. But as is usual, Forums are found when owners have problems. I am unfortunately one that falls into that category. Hope to contribute in some small way with an exchange of info. Off to the FZS 600 Forum with my tale of woe which seems quite common. Cheers John.
