Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / FZS1000 elecetrical issue wire modification
« on: 26 April 2013, 11:48:50 am »
Hello, folks

Long time no see  ;)

I have had an issue some time ago when the bike will not start and no instrument light would be on. I have seen a modification with the wires under the left hand panel for the power cable (change the plug connections). I can't find it now. I thought I have seen it on Pat's page, but it is not there. I don't think I was imagining. Anyone remembers this and could point me there? I looked on the old page, but with no luck.

Cheers

Just measured mine at 144 mm.

Cheers for that. So I believe that the standard length is 144mm for a FZS1000('01-'05).

Hi, is there anyone else who could confirm the original size of the dog bones/suspension links? I was told by some people that it is 144mm from hole centre to hole centre.

I have bought from Wemoto as well. No issues so far, but I haven't ridden far yet. I did them a few months ago.

MartynR,

130mm between the holes was, IIRC, 140mm c/c holes, so you have standard bones there.

Thanks Ghoti  :thumbup

Hi folks,
Does anyone know the length of the bones for standard FZS1000? I bought some and they seem to be the same length as fitted. I measured them to be ~130mm between the holes, not the centre of the hole.

Mine is half welded now. And has a few screws. If the bike is nearer 10years I would not bet on screws to be undone with penetrating oil. Mine had allen head bolts that rust inside out...

If I was to do it again then I would not bother. I didn't have the bike for long, but sorting the valve and with it being stuck shut there wasn't so much improvement to notice. And it did not feel like a CB250 with the valve sized that's for sure. It costs so much money that I would just leave. I would just remove the cables and leave it as it is.
If your bike is not giving the 7k rpm error, then it is not sized or it has been disconnected previously. If it hasn't been serviced for long time then it might be cheaper to get the headers with a working valve instead.

I would like to see the output on the dyno with working and closed valve.

If your forks are standard it sounds like you may need heavier springs, not just oil.

9.5kg/mm or 1.00kg/mm probably best

I believe 'PieEater' on the forum may be able to advise

Thanks for the reply. But to be honest I am not going to invest into springs. Just one of the fork oil seals started a slight leak. So I thought to change the oil as well as ir probably never had one in its life. Yamaha manual says some kind of "01" suspension oil? 5w or 7.5w?

As I don't want to make another thread, I thought this might be okay. Does anyone know what fork oil weight shall I use? I weigh around 17 stones. Cheers

Also, peeps using the internet for stuff is killing the dealers as well.

How many of us have a look at stuff in a shop and then see how much it is online?

Because money don't grow on trees? The dealers are a rip off!

not fussed on vectra's. they look ok from the outside but dull as dishwater inside. octavia is a stretched golf innit?

I doubted it that is stretched, it's built on the same chassis as well as Seat Leon.

If complains are not resolved, then I would contact Consumer Direct and give the a spank. To cancel the DD wouldn't be a wise move, as somebody said debt collectors and credit history...

General / Re: Recommend a decent Sat Nav?
« on: 05 January 2012, 08:43:30 pm »
Being a cheapskate I use an old car satnav on the bike. I have a 12v socket under the seat so that a satnav can run from that with an extension wire to the handlebars. Can also be used to charge your phone etc.

And where do you keep it? In your pocket?

You gonna need a mount for it, but car sat navs are cheaper than motorcycle ones.

I bought TomTom Rider v1 2nd hand of fleabay last year. The keys are small, even without gloves, so I use ignition key for postcodes.

And get some maps, in case the sat nav packs up.

General / Re: Everyone should know about Hastings Direct
« on: 04 January 2012, 12:26:13 am »
Difficult to comment without the full story but, taking the story at face value, the guys approach was wrong from the outset.  If the bike had been removed without his instuction or consent then Hastings or their agents were guilty of theft.  I would also argue that the manner in which the bike was transported constitues vandalism and both of these offences should have been reported to the Police.  Rather than deal with their claims department the bikes' owner should have sued them for return of the machine and had the police bring charges for the offences commited.
One interesting point though - how did Hastings know (a) that the bike had been involved in and RTA and (b) where to collect it from?  Someone has obviously informed them.

Good point about the theft, that it was taken away without owners permission. I had my car being towed to the garage where it was inspected if it could be fixed and then I phoned the garage to be told that my car was taken by insurance some 120 miles away. Then they sent a letter with the cheque and if I don't reply with in 10 days it will be automatically accepted. Foccing Elephant...
