maxxis? :lol

in a conundrum now, one supplier saying I'll get good mileage out of the 4's and another saying they're very soft......good grip but no good for mileage :\

anyone got them and say one way or the other?
cheers

I'm nudging 14k miles on Metzeler Z6 front & rear. About 60% of that motorway at 90mph and the rest hustling round London. Rear just starting to slightly square off and front starting to show signs of squaring and road camber wear. Find good grip and feel wet or dry. Just my 2p...............but may try Maxxis Diamonds for a change next time  keep hearing good things about them.
Those are my principles...if you don't like them I have others.

If you would like specific information on the P4's I believe there have been a few threads covering this already so they should show when using the Search function. Other than that, perhaps message Punkstig as he has used many different tyres and is a courier. He recommends the PR4's but for a more in-depth reasoning and idea of mileage you'd have to ask

I have recently fitted PR3s to my 600. Superb grip in the dry and wet. Others who have switched to them have said the same.
PR4s are even better, so I have been told. The wet grip is outstanding.
Dual compound, with the harder centre compound for your motorway runs.
Cannot comment on mileage yet as I have only covered about 1000 miles on them.
People who think they know everything are a great annoyance to those of us who do.

I wasn't going to reply but as I've been mentioned personally...

It's very easy to cause confusion talking about Michelin's as their tyres have very similar names- out of the two people you've been talking to one might have made the mistake of not talking about the same as the other!

I've not used the pilot Road 4's yet, I am due to replace rear soon and shall be trying them out!

That being said my experience with the pilot Road 3's was superb,  mileage was incredible, the 4's are supposed to be better still- not worse as one of your guys has suggested!

Reports are the metzelers are possibly better- but you haven't asked that, I have tried many any different makes over the years and as is most people's case I've now find the tyre maker I am happy with ( currently on the pilot power 3's as wasn't using the bike to despatch on, but going back to lots of motorway commuting!)

Tyres aren't cheap which makes people reluctant to try a different brand, but it's worth trying!
Some say...

Are you 'avin a larf????  :eek

Worst tyres I've experienced since the Metzelers that the gen 1s originally came with!

Don't think you can go far wrong with any of the Michelin PR range, including the old 2s, which I still use as I'm confident with them and they're dirt cheap now that we have the 3s and 4s. If money not an object, I'd go for the 4s. I have heard some criticism of the 3s, along the lines of feeling a bit squirmy at times, although they still sound like a pretty good bet on balance. Don't think I've heard anything bad about the 4s though, and I too have heard that you get good mileage from them.

Can't comment on anything else, cos I've been using exclusively the PR2s for quite a while now. Mileage not too bad, considering the use they get.

I'm not getting involved in this one, I just get grief! :P

I have Pirelli sport demons on the new bike.  Plenty of grip in the dry  round country lanes , don't ride it in the wet , only done approx 1200  miles on it so can't comment on mileage , but the grip on the pr3s is more than adequate for me  , again not had them long on the Fazer so can't comment on mileage .

BT023 is a far superior tyre to the BT021, much deeper tread and better grip in the wet, and have some high recorded mileage on here.
The T30 is very good as well.
I have a BT023F/T30R and they are a great combination.

I'd say the other most recognised decent all rounder for grip and mileage on here are the PR3's.

I've just had a set of PR4's on a 2009 FZ1 and after 4k miles, I've had to replace the rear. I'm a bit heavy on the wrist, but they don't last as long as people would have you believe (having said that they are good, so I've gone with them again)......just info to chew over for your decision

4k from a rear???? I got just over 3k from mine on the fz1, and that's before I started tuning it up!
