My daughter Amy , has been offered a place at Gloucester Uni ( Cheltenham campus ) training to be a teacher , I am really proud , it might not be a big deal for some people , but she will be the first from our family .

Im doing my Beng in Engineering Management. Only Part time though, alongside working full time as an engineer :)

Jammy bastard, LOL! I'm doing all theoretical stuff at UH, and making tea and researching wheels and trailers in my placement year! :lol :lol

Ive been actively 'steering' my daughter towards uni for a few years now, havent given her much choice tbh, since she was 12 and had to choose her subjects weve told her she IS going to uni ;)
She's only 17 but we're hoping she's going to study to be a teacher as well :)

Amy will be 21 this june , she stayed on at sixth form and got good A levels , she has been working in Homesense since she was 17 , she wanted to go to uni but wasn't sure want career path , but the last 18 mths she has been doing 1 day a week voluntary work at Ilminster ave primary , the head advised her to try teaching as she has been really impressed with her and helped her prepare for her interview . I'm just really chuffed for her and hopefully she will be doing a job she wants to do .
Fair play to anybody who can do a degree while holding down a full time job , I went back to college in 2003 at 38 to do a testing inspecting course , that was only 6 weeks 1 day a week 3hrs a lesson , and that was a struggle doing that after working on site all day long , I take my hat off to you and hope you all pass .

I suppose you can see it as it being hard, I think working alongside it helps me through my degree - my 15 years experience as an engineer means I can relate my practical knowledge to the theory that I learn in uni, meaning I remember it better (if that makes even the remotest bit of sense :lol).
Im sure your wee lass will skoosh it mate, and it will be a proud moment for you when you get to see her in her graduation hat and gown :thumbup

Good luck to her, same Uni my Niece went too and she enjoyed every minute of it nice to see some of the younger generation making something of their lives.

Thanks to everyone for the congrats , she has been offered a place in Bath and Plymouth as well , teachers at the school where she does voluntary work have advised her to go to Bath , she hasn't made her mind up yet but will probably go to Bath .

My eldest niece, is at uni. studying to be a teacher, she is in her final year but loves ever minute of it and the kids she has worked with.
When she graduates she is going backpacking in the USA and looking to work in the summer camps over there
It helps that her mum is a head teacher of a nursery, so that is where she gets it from. Pity I'm the thick one of the family :'(

Your niece will have a great time backpacking round the USA . Amy gets her brains from her Grandad , they skipped a generation with me .

I'd definitely recommend Bath - I don't go there myself, but have a number of friends and a cousin that do, and they all highly rate it. It's really big on placement years in industry too, and has an excellent reputation of having good links with a number of top class institutions (admittedly my friends are doing finance, but its got that reputation in a lot of industries).

Amy has accepted Bath , it has been highly recommended by the teachers where she was doing voluntary work and is the closest one , she has sorted out her grant but will still work part time to make up her money .

Our eldest did his degree at Northampton - and loved everything except the other students. After Uni he struggled for a job, but did a teaching course, and a month ago he went off to Thailand for a 14 month teaching contract (his girlfriend is doing the same thing, although they're at different schools in the same town).
So far, they've had an amazing experience, doing and seeing things they never would have otherwise (like eating scorpions). I'd recommend teaching to anyone - although my wife (a retired schoolteacher has a different view).
Youngest has just finished first year at De Montfort, doing a degree in Computer Game Art Design - how the hell do they dream up these courses?
