Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Gearbox woes...
« on: 06 April 2017, 10:51:54 pm »
You'll know the gearbox is on the way out when it's starts slipping out of second on up changes. It gets worse and worse until it goes bang (yeah, personal experience of an 01). My second and third Fazers lumps never jump out of second and one's done way over 100,000 miles.

As for the notchiness, I've noticed that mine's slick until it gets really hot and bothered and then it can be a bit recalcitrant, but it does sound like yours is a proper problem. I'd have a long hard look at the linkage, the play on the change lever pivot, and of course, the chain.

cheers for the reply,  new chain and sprockets fitted a few hundred miles ago, linkage seems to be set correctly fingers crossed that it's not the start of serious problems as I like this bike and it's got some decent upgrades on it.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Gearbox woes...
« on: 06 April 2017, 07:34:00 pm »
Hello all, it's been awhile, hope you're all well?

OK to the point.

2004 grey import, 30K, full service, good oil used always, new EBC clutch pads, new clutch cable, all set correctly but for the life of me I can't get rid of the notchy gearbox, as some have mentioned in their own posts it seems to be 1st and 2nd gear, doesn't matter if the bikes hot or cold at times it's like a spoon in porridge trying to find first  :'(

I had a 2001 Fazer thou previously and that was silky smooth but it had a 1/3 of the miles on the clock.  Yesterday on the run back from the north it was fine and even changed up with no clutch but then as soon as I was back to having to go down to first and second (pulling upto junctions or lights) the notchiness and sloppy feel started again.

HELP!!! (is this normal? is it down to some bikes? or is the box on it's way out???)

thanks in advance

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Re: Fazer 1000 gearbox issues...
« on: 06 September 2015, 03:42:14 pm »
When you replaced the clutch plates, was it just the friction and the metal plates? and where they genuine? If they were pattern, did you measure the thickness and flatness of said plates? And can you remember the condition of the clutch basket fingers when you changed the plates? were they releltivly smooth or did they have lots of ridges/indentations?

The reason I am leabing towards the clucth being the culprit is because I have the same issue, albeit to a lesser degree with my 2005/20k. And its was purely down to the ridges in the clutch basket fingers, after I had painstakingly smoothed each side of all of the fingers the bike was back to lovely again.

I just changed the friction plates for genuine EBC ones.  From memory all seemed in good order with the basket, plates came out fine with no snagging etc?

Cheers guys , I should have also mentioned I changed the clutch plates less than 500 miles ago, all done correctly.  Chain also adjusted properly and yes it seems to be when I'm at standstill or coming to a stop.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Fazer 1000 gearbox issues...
« on: 05 September 2015, 05:18:41 pm »
posssibly issues or not, I'm not an expert so I can only give symptoms and hopefully someone may have come across this and have an idea?

Bike is a 2004 model, 28K miles, full service history.  OK, issue is sometimes (only sometimes) when changing between 1st and 2nd it feels like what car drivers would say finding a gear is like stirring a pot with a spoon syndrome, going into first is clunky but I know that this can be the norm, I've had it on various other bikes over the years so this isn't really bothering me too much.  But the main concern is when trying to change between 1st to 2nd and then back down.  Sometimes it finds the gear no problem but at others it feels like it needs a good stamp to get it into gear and that doesn't always work (no I'm not actually stamping on the lever!).  No nasty noises coming from the engine or gearbox, chain is going to need a change pretty soon but other than that I'm stumped?  All other gears are fine, new clutch cable fitted and set up correctly etc

Any ideas?

cheers

For Sale & Wanted / Some bits for sale for the 1000
« on: 14 May 2015, 08:21:05 pm »
I have the following items for sale, tinted screen with Fazer logo in very good condition, a standard rear shock also in good nick the shock came of the bike after an R6 upgarde, bike had done less than 20K at the time of removal, also I have a complete OE undertray, this comes with rear indicators, it has a crack which can be easily repaired near the indicator mount you have to pull it apart in order to see it as it closes up perfect hence great to repair, other than that the undertray actually looks very very clean and hardly used also I have some OE levers and dogbones.

If any interest I will post up pics and prices.

PM me any questions - thanks

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Anyone fitted an Ermax undertray ?
« on: 11 August 2014, 07:19:25 pm »
Instructions that have come with the undertray are pants and from what I can gather you cut upto the central fixing point - if anyone can remember of top of their heads is it a straight line all the way from left to right using the central fixing point as reference?

cheers

I'm thinking of taking the nose cone off of my gen 1 and would like to see a photo of one with the cone removed and possibly a belly pan fitted?

thanks in advance  :)

Just taken off of my bike as my dark one has arrived, this is the clear screen with tint at the lower part of screen and has "Fazer" etched into it, will take pics if any interest but I'm guessing you know which one it is.

£15 plus post

General / Re: Boots!
« on: 27 May 2014, 08:01:09 pm »
absolutely, fit great, great grip on the pegs, and awesome when walking around, no pain in the ankle area etc, yes they feel a little stiff due to the protection but not to the point that you have to break them in - really just a case of lob em on, jump on the bike ride get off walk around etc etc and get home with no pain  :)

Strange one this, as on my last fazer 1000 I had to buy a LED flasher relay to sort out quick blinking, I did the same with the the new Fazer I bought as a precaution - I hooked up the new LEDs before the relay arrived and turns out that I didn't need it?

24
I bought my gen 1 around a month ago and the bike came with Metzeler Race Tek K2's, bloody sticky things they are, not too sure what they'll be like in the wet and in all fairness I'm thinking about changing them pretty soon even though they still have life left in them.

FZS600 Fazer / Re: clutch lever
« on: 19 May 2014, 06:38:48 am »
yeah I agree, had them on my last fazer 1000 and now just fitted another set to my current 1000.  Funny thing is I paid around £14 for both clutch and brake lever and then there are UK sellers selling the exact same item for £54!!!!

 :rolleyes :rolleyes
