It's a different engine with different dimensions & sits at a different angle! If you want to build an underseat exhaust as you are building a new subrame, it would be easier just to start from scratch with some stainless tube, a pipe bender & a tig welder. You will need to do lots of dyno runs tho as manufacturers spend a fortune designing exhausts to get the optimal pipe length etc it isn't as easy as it looks!

oooh that looks posh! :eek

I will look forward to the feedback, I got an evening pass yesterday & went out for a really good thrash, I did notice that as it wasn't as breezy as it has been of late the buffeting wasn't quite as bad as it had been but I still found it annoying at high speed!

No offence taken, takes more than that to offend me lol
I see copperslip regularly on caliper bolts but the idiots then don't put it on the sliding parts! another classic is people putting it on bleed nipples then wonder why they still have slightly spongy brakes! I once went on a course where they demonstrated the torque difference on wheel studs with & without copper grease, the difference was a staggering 15NM might not seem a lot but at one time Porsche used to recommend it!!! Might have got away with it but I wouldn't fancy driving a performance car where the wheels aren't tight!! :eek

I have been a mechanic for 30 years & I did say use it lightly & not near the washer as it doesn't compress but it does stop alloy corrosion! I probably change 60 plus plugs a week & in 99.9% of cases I wouldn't use anything on the threads & don't physically check the gap tho I do look at the gap, don't ever presume the gap is correct cos' the plug is new, plenty of boxes of plugs get dropped! If I ever struggle to remove a plug or snap a plug I will clean the thread, blow the crap out, clean it again then run the chaser back in with a very tiny amount of copper grease (& I do mean tiny amount) before inserting a new plug! You shouldn't use it anywhere near hubs, wheel studs etc as it doesn't compress & messes with torque settings. I have lost count of the amount of times people have complained about warped discs & it is caused by copper grease on hub faces! Iridium plugs do give a cleaner spark, will work with a wider gap using less voltage etc & do last longer but they should still be removed, checked & cleaned! as people do fit & forget they have been known to suffer from tracking on the porcelain.

As it's a bank holiday weekend most places are closed but pop into your local machine mart & pick up a spark plug thread chaser (little double ended tool) clean the thread with this nice & slowly, gently working it back & forth with plenty of lubricant then if you can blow the area clean with air when you install the new plug put a tiny bit of copper grease on the thread but not near the washer as it doesn't compress!

Try washing the lock out & then use the HB pencil trick! ;) hold the flap open & grind a HB pencil into the lock! it will really help the fingers!

Ok guy's after a little advice please :D which screen would you recommend for the foxeye please? I think mine is original & is ok for me up to 70ish or if I want to lay flat on the tank! but other than that the buffeting is awful, the wind just seems to catch me under the chin making my head bob about like a weeble! :lol The fact I use a shoei lid just makes it worse as they aren't the quietist of things to begin with!!

For the most part the high street is biker friendly, it got patrolled quite a bit earlier this year when a biker was killed up there, but I ride it's length regularly & haven't seen a copper on it for a while now, probably cos' this part of Lincolnshire hasn't got that many! That said the highways did the usual a while ago & gravelled it!! makes some of the corners interesting to say the least! It's ok if you stay in the tram lines but if you aren't hanging around & using the road things get a bit twitchy!!! :eek

General / Re: Centre stands....for better or worse.
« on: 20 August 2015, 08:28:35 am »
I once dropped my CBR 600 in Tesco's carpark when part of the centre stand went in a pot hole as I lifted, it's more embarrassing than anything :o
As I own a VFR too I think his problem was he was too half arsed in his effort & his right hand isn't low enough to help roll it up onto the stand, he is just trying to guide it backwards from standing on the stand! The VFR is easier to put on the centre stand than the fazer even tho it weighs about the same as a small elephant! :lol The centre of gravity, balance, length of stand, call it what you will is better! Tho the more I ride the fazer the more things I prefer about it to the Honda!

Introduction / Big Hi from a new member in Lincolnshire!
« on: 16 August 2015, 08:41:35 pm »
As it says in the title really, a big Hi from a new member in Louth! Bought my '02 fazer a few weeks ago & I absolutely love it!!! It's a bit like riding my old 350lc but with twice the power! It's light, handles like a dream, very flickable & extremely comfy! up till a few years ago I was always a Yamaha man then ventured away after a big off on my R1 & went Honda for a while (still have my VFR, tho it hasn't been started since I bought the fazer) I'm steadily getting used to Yamaha clunky gearboxes again! whilst working my way through bits & bobs to make it "mine". Though I am going to completely strip it over winter to make it how I want it!
A bit about me, I'm in my mid 40's been riding since I was 16 & can't ever see myself stopping, though my riding position is steadily getting more upright as the bones get older! I'm a self employed mechanic so if ever any of you need a hand, tools or advice please feel free to ask! I'm sure I will have some questions to ask as time goes by about fazer foibles!! Oh & been old & a bit of a computer flop, if someone could tell me how I add pics I will add some of my bikes!
Hopefully get to meet some of you soon.
Richard.
