Haha, measure, google, email, shop around... to save myself a couple of quid. What do you think my time is worth?! :-P

I'd say time spent looking after the bike, servicing or replacing screws etc is priceless.

If the OP had done whatever work the shop did for him we wouldn't be having this conversation

Worn maybe a dozen times, as new (maybe the odd dead fly)

Size 42/52

Pictures to follow

£75.00 + p&p

Well after pulling out of the cupboard I found this, looks like the stitching failed, hardly the end of the world.

Screwfix are pretty good on packs of screws, pack of M6 x 20mm x 50 button head for £3.59

Thats cheaper than many advertised on ebay and local to most peeps

£3.00 for two screws, you have more money than sense, those focers are about 20p each.

Find a supplier on ebay etc and measure some fasteners on the bike you'd like to change (screen bolts for example would probably be M5 x 20mm) then email a list of fasteners, type and dimensions to said supplier and see what price he comes up with.

Copy and paste the email to several sellers to get the best price

Just don't search for bike specific kits, you'll always pay through the nose for them

I've started them with a punch in the past. Get someone to hold the bars and tap the outer edge of the screw. Chuck them in the bin and replace with countersunk Allen screws

If its only short term why not leave it bolted to the stock fairing subframe inc lights, won't look great but will save you splashing out on a custom made bracket

Sorry Joebloggs, that attitude this morning was unnecessary, I'm not usually an argumentative foccer.  I just assumed you were expecting antibiotics and overprescribing is a real problem with dangerous bacteria become resistant. Sorry again.  :rolleyes

No, billy was right, a few days worth of painkillers was what I was really after, like he said it's not like I'm always up there begging for pills.

As for your post, no problem, its a free world, just hope your balls rot and don't drop off  :b

Tommy, hope you're patient, did two small ones on my ZX and the focers took ages to get off, went something like heat, carefully lift the edge with my thumb nail, snap, heat carefully lift the edge with my thumb nail etc etc

Doctors.

I bet I've been to see my doctor no more than twice in the last decade, had a sore throat yesterday which went straight to my ears, was painful enough for me to book an emergency appointment to hopefully have him prescribe some pain relief other than the usual over the counter sticky plasters you get for mild headaches etc

I don't care if it's only mild inflammation, if I haven't been to see him for years does this not tell him something.

Could have kicked him in the balls................'Don't worry Doc, its only mild inflammation...................'

General / Re: swingarm painted or anodised
« on: 17 April 2017, 11:21:24 pm »
I remember from reading on here somewhere that it is anodised and is a real arse to get down to metal to polish and i think the foc'er wished they had not started. I also think that once it is polished that it is going to be a problem to keep that way due to all that is attached to it and round the back - and so on, what about just doing the flat side that faces out.

You can remove the coating using oven cleaner, spray on, wait for it to start turning black, wipe off, repeat, be patient.

As for the flat side, this isn't exactly flat, and getting into the corner with wet and dry etc etc to remove all trace's of anodizing is a proper twat of a job. I did the side and top and it looks OK just remember you'll need several tins of elbow grease.

I can't remember the name of them but you can get grit impregnated soaps that would help get into corners, used like an eraser they are great for jobs like that or flattening out deep scratches.

Anyone know whether the '03 swingarms are painted or just anodised alloy?
I know the early ones are anodised and I'd be surprised if they went to paint after, if you're thinking about polishing it then smear some paint stripper on one part and oven cleaner on another, will show you which finish is on it.

Thanks for the reply
I've seen one from Germany on eBay for 230 posted, no details re rider weight etc but got to be worth a punt at that price

Penny pinching here but has anyone used one of their shocks. Have read good reviews on their twin shocks, not just by owners, and have found one for the ZZR £50 less than a Hagon and like the Hagon it comes with a spring to suit your weight etc

Rebuilt the carbs and fitted them, struck it up and it revved clearly (something it wouldn't do before cleaning etc) then the focer flooded again, I focin hate carbs, dropped them off at a local dealers, let him sort out float height etc.

On positive note all the brakes are now serviced with no sticking and every nut and bolt I could get to has been greased

Steering head bearings tomorrow.

TBH it's probably the way to go, recently researched this as me one piece is red and white and I want to go back to black (hence new jacket) Everything I read said its virtually impossible to get leather to take a dye.

Camping for me every time....Small stove....Small tent...A few clothes... Compressible sleeping bag....Led lights wired from bike battery....Can't beat it 😁😁

You can....... with a nice hotel room haha
Steam shower, Jacuzzis spa tub, king size bed, flat screen tv and most importantly... heating.
Sorry but I really don't get the appeal of sleeping in a nylon sack under a tarp in the middle of a field. Not my cup of tea at all

I once had to dig a hole in the snow to pitch my tent on a beach on the Scottish borders, was lovely and cosy, you're a bloody light weight  :b

Might be worth considering having the correct colour leather panels stitched over the existing jean!

I'd say a tent is essential when touring, you meet more people on a campsite than you would staying in digs, just try to find interesting locations so you don't end up packing your tent away every morning. If your kit gets damp you have the wrong tent.

Purchasing a bike is also an issue. I brought a bike of ebay that was to far away to view, not best but price was right, but of course you can never be completely sure of what you will find when you go to pick it up. Anyway, was happy enough with the bike, which was just as well, as I had to insure the thing before seeing it just to make sure it could be taxed if I brought it

I did mine once while working as a waiter in a posh hotel

I took this table their food and would stick my thumb in the soup as it was quite soothing.

After serving five out of six of the customers the last one said ' why do you keep putting your thumb in peoples meals' I told him about the sore finger, he said ' well I suggest you stick your thumb up your ass'

I said 'I do when I'm in the kitchen'

I honestly don't know how you can even contemplate buying a jacket online without trying it on first, it's just gonna be a major kerfuffle!

+1 on that.

As I wrote on another thread the sizes are all over the place, you could get lucky but then you could also spend any savings on postage getting the right one.

Pop to J&S at Nottingham (not far from you) They gave me 10% off the full price so you don't have to be looking at their sale items.

It's not a case of looks is it, its about grip, grip and more grip.

Both no doubt are great drivers cars and I wouldn't say no to an MR but I picked me 5 up for £300, changed the cambelt etc and had it on the road for under £600, last 3 mot's have cost a grand total of 56 pence and I don't expect the next to cost me much more. OK I got lucky on the purchase but good ones are out there and us 5 drivers say the same about the MR's.

And of course the real bonus is they don't go pop due to poor design  :rollin :rollin :rollin
