FZS600 Fazer / Seized exhaust nut removal
« on: 01 September 2015, 08:00:47 am »
My exhaust is blowing somewhere near the top of the headers, a common issue from what I've read on here, also the nuts and studs have become one. My question is has anyone tried welding another nut/bar etc to get some real heat into the area and if so was it successful?

I don't have sky, BT or any other provider, tbh I don't even have terrestrial, just use my PC for all my entertainment. I use Cricfree for free streaming which gives me most of the racing etc but it doesn't always run very well and I find myself having to refresh the screen quite often.
Any other free sites worth looking at?

Stripped the paint off the outer rim of my front wheel, very time consuming as it appears the previous owner painted it with black smoothrite sometime in the past (went like chewing gum when paint stripper was applied.
Also attacked my outer casings with 120 grit wet and dry/stripper combination. My god, what have they used for a coating, recon if they'd used that stuff on the space shuttle they would have never crashed.

You considering an 04 on?
Unless everything lines up, sprockets, suspension link etc you'll probably find it cheaper to buy a new Hagon or similar

« on: 24 August 2015, 10:17:50 am »
Preventing near misses is the way forward.
As has been said, expect the unexpected and never assume the driver has seen you. I think road positioning is vital to staying safe. I look for many indications when approaching a junction, what road side furniture can I be hidden by, what vehicles are behind me, where am I in relation to their headlights (in the dark my light may be seen as one of the cars further behind me) is the sun blinding them (especially dangerous if its behind you and your lights are on) Etc etc. But for me the most important part of defensive riding is can I see his or her eyes. Simple really, if you cant see them, assume they cant see you. No matter how many times they turn their heads if you are hidden behind the A-pillar you don't exist. So I try to see the road from their perspective, move to a position where I give them the best chance of seeing me, its not perfect although it definitely helps prevent those heart stopping moments.

A couple of years ago a local lad on a Blade was killed when a driver pulled out in front of him. I didn't know him but a lad I worked with did. I asked him what happened and he said that this new driver pulled straight out of a junction. The rider was going so fast he just about cut the car in half. he was killed instantly and left this young woman with a broken neck. Sure she shouldn't have pulled out but I doubt there would be many drivers who wouldn't have made the same mistake. Sometimes, no matter how you look at it, we are in the wrong. Just not nice admitting it.

For the most part the high street is biker friendly, it got patrolled quite a bit earlier this year when a biker was killed up there, but I ride it's length regularly & haven't seen a copper on it for a while now, probably cos' this part of Lincolnshire hasn't got that many! That said the highways did the usual a while ago & gravelled it!! makes some of the corners interesting to say the least! It's ok if you stay in the tram lines but if you aren't hanging around & using the road things get a bit twitchy!!! :eek
Nice to see they're leaving it free for those in the know. Extremely quick road once you've worked out the blind spots and which way it goes. I think the 600 would feel a little out of its depth over most of the road, only got interesting the right side of 130 (kmh of course)

FZS600 Fazer / Re: First motorcycle
« on: 23 August 2015, 08:38:17 am »
Man laws are real weird here. At 14 we can get below 50cc. At 16 we can ride any size bike but we can't drive a car until 18. So yeah I can essentially buy a busa right now.
The most beautiful women in the world and any motorcycle at 16, would someone please adopt me  :D

« on: 23 August 2015, 08:31:58 am »
Surely engine oil will fling off, or wash off in rain, unless you have a constant oiler fitted?
I always lube it after ride, allowing most of the excess to drip off so theres not really that much left to fly off and any that does find its way on to bodywork etc can easily be removed with a cloth unlike spray on lubes which need degreasents to shift.
Guess its down to personal choice and any lube is better than none
Talking of which. I saw this lad on a 125 the other day who's chain was as dry as Gandi's flip flop's. When I suggested he lube it he replied that he didn't want to as it would make it slip........ I gave up at this point

Thanks all.
The bike was in better condition than I thought, not mint but far from being a rusty old dog.  :D
The fairings coming off, it is a fiberglass rep that could possibly be repaired but it and some other parts will be going on Ebay to fund some new bars, head light brackets etc.
Will up load some pictures soon

Engine oil every time. Just sold a bike that had been sat (in a shed) for about 8 years, moved once or twice at the most, coated in engine oil and never had a tight spot when it went.
Not a case of money, oil is the best lube full stop. How much lube is left in a fancy tin after taking out the propellant, sticky substance that adheres  the gunk to the chain, wheels, underside of tail piece, leathers etc etc
A clean rag, a length of cardboard, some protective gloves and oil and you can sort your chain in under a min. (Bike on center stand, soaked rag wrapped around the chain and turn the wheel  (by hand of course) Cardboard catches the drips.
Stop waisting your money, even if you are a Jersey Bean

Hoping to bring home a 00 reg FZS600 tomorrow, slight accident damage for what I hope is a reasonable price (condition depending)
Been around bikes most of my life, only other Yamahas were a FS1E and a bit of a dog of a 250/350YPVS I threw together, fun bike but the fuel bills......Enough said
Anyway, not a dating site so that'll do for intro.
Hello again
