General / Parcelforce and import charges
« on: 26 September 2017, 11:21:32 am »

Tuesday morning gripe, has anyone else had something similar to this?

Ordered a Chinese rad for my Gen1 and was tracking the shipment from China, when it was released from customs into the hands of parcelforce on Friday

Today Got my letter from parcelforce with the charges on it, a vat charge of £9.72 (ok) and a parcel force clearance fee of £11.25  :eek .

Went to pay fee on-line but was told number on parcelforce letter was incorrect, so I called the telephone number on the letter, that is a premium 03XX number. Wading through the automatic menus took another 4 minutes, again to find out the system did not recognise the reference number given. Many requests (5+) by the system for me to input the number when finally I got back to the main menu and was able to connect to a real person, they then took the number and again it did not show on the system so went back to the tracking number, this checked out and details found. After usual security checks  now told by operator that they must put me on hold to set-up the payment (why?) after about a minute came back and ready to accept payment, this again was stalled by operator asking multiple times for card number. Finally payment was made and then asked 'do i want it sent out asap?', no shit sherlock, finally after over 11 minutes on the phone and at least another £4 poorer (have to wait for my phone bill to find out how much) my parcel is on its way here.

Feels like a money making exercise for parcelforce with the length of the call and 'Clearance Fee'

Anyone else had anything similar happen to them with the parcelforce reference number not being recognised on-line or on the phone?

Also why does it only take 3 days from order in China for parcel to be in the UK, but 8 days before I get a letter to say I need to pay charges?

Rant(s) over , have a good day people :D

If anyone from the forum is going on the run look out for me, not sure what duties have been set aside for me this year so not sure where I'll be stationed, so look out for a fat twat in leathers and a Ford Hi-vis vest  :lol

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / GEN 1 different Wheels
« on: 02 June 2015, 12:34:30 pm »
Looking to slightly change the look of my 2003 GEN1 and to do this I'm interested in trying to fit a set of 2003-on  R6 wheels.

Got my eye on a set locally, but want to know what I might need to change or do to make them fit a GEN1, before I splash the dosh.

I'm currently running 1999 R1 forks with standard GEN1 wheel, disks etc. and std rear wheel.

Anyone done this or knows anyone who has??????

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / R1 Fork conversion issue - Lower Yoke
« on: 03 January 2015, 10:22:00 pm »
Have been changing the Steering Stem bearings on my 03 with R1 Fork conversion but have encountered a problem when removing the bearing race from the Lower Yoke.

Background info, the lower yoke is an early R1 Lower yoke with a Fazer Stem, what looks like a custom spleve in the lower yoke with spacer above to ensure the bearing race is in correct postion and a custom machined upper yoke.

Problem, having tried (and failed) removing race with bearing remover I resorted to tried and tested method of cutting a slot in race with a dremel with cutting disk. At about 3/4 the way through there was a load crack and everything went loose. The race had cracked fully (as expected) and lifted from its original position. The Stem is now a very loose fit in the lower yoke and not a tight press fit or even a tight fit as expected. It seems the bearing race was pressed into position and used to hold the whole assembly tight. To me this is not an ideal solution and I was expecting the stem to be a press fit in the lower yoke.

Has anyone else with a similar R1 converstion got the same condition?

To correct this I'm going to get a machine shop to press out the existing spacer in the lower yoke, machine a new one with required tolerance and press into the lower yoke then press in the Fazer stem.

General / TPS sensor
« on: 04 August 2014, 10:43:09 pm »
It seems my tps sensor is the culprit of my rough running problems when holding a steady throotle position, tacho goes to zero then 3000rpm then back to running revs.. Question is are the pre-injection 600 tps the same as  GEN1?

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Clock and Trip Meter keep re-setting
« on: 16 July 2014, 09:01:54 pm »
Bloody dash clock keeps re-setting to 1.00am when I turn off my ignition.
Just checked the permanent power connection, with the ignition off, and I'm getting a voltage of 10.5V where as the battery is showing a voltage of 12.9V, at the auxillary fuse I get the same voltage as the battery.
Two questions, do you need a full 12V to keep the clock running with the ignition off?
and where could I be losing the 2V?

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Miss-fire and cutting out
« on: 31 May 2014, 01:55:11 pm »
Took my GEN1 out for a blast today and she has been cutting out and sounds like some miss-firing going on, virtually as soon as she cuts out she can be re-started or if cutting out at speed she backfires after restarting out saying to me its not a fuel issue but electrical. It is very intermitant

I'm thinking either my alarm (Meta) needs ripping out so I need the bypass diagram or the side stand switch might be playing up.

Any suggestions for other areas I might need to look at?

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Nipples
« on: 06 May 2014, 12:25:09 pm »
Does anyone know the thread size of the Blue Spot Front Caliper Bleed nipples?

after Sunday's LoFo ride I noticed that there was some seepage around one of my front caliper nipples coming from the threaded area, checked the bleed hole and it is dry.

I noticed it first last week so I pulled the nipple cleaned it, cleaned out the bleed hole in the calpier with a small bottle brush and brake cleaner, went for a quick ride and no seepage was evident. But after Sunday's 320 mile blast the seepage was back.

I did bleed the calipers last week and on Saturday, as I disturbed the brake lines when I changed the front forks, so I know the bleed holes are clear.

Want to change the nipple first to see if the seeping stops with a new nipple or if I'm into further work/expense.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / GEN 1 Potential Wiring issue
« on: 13 April 2014, 01:47:56 am »
Striping off my fairing, for better access to swap out my frt end with an R1 frt end, I found the wiring loom feed to the clocks, between the headlamps, had started to fret through on contact with the fairing. see photo.

Caught just in time as the loom tape was worn through and it was wearing the insulation, bike is an 03 and has done 35k, as far as I'm aware this is the first time the fairing has been off. Might be worth checking on bikes of a similar age and milage.

Yamaha had put additional protection further down the loom but not here where the loom is uncontrolled

e has done 35k

General / Biker fiendly Hotels in Mid/South Italy and Sicily
« on: 17 February 2014, 04:55:13 pm »
For some obscure reason my middle daughter has decided to get married on Malta, July this year, so I intend using most of my holiday entiltilement riding down to and then through Italy and onto Sicily to get the ferry to Malta.

I'm pretty well inundated with recomendations (some I've used before) for hotels leading down to the alps and Northen Italy but none going further south.

Has anyone done this before and have recommendations?
