I saw this on the IAM Facebook page, asking people's opinions on autonomous cars, planes and ships.
It takes about 10-15 minutes to complete.

I was going to participate, I'm against all autonomous vehicles, but just before I did I noticed that the survey is part of an EU project so that was the end of that :\ .
-
*Facepalm*

*Facepalm*
Yeah that's also what I did when I heard that there was a campaign to deface and refuse to accept the new Brexit 50p's :lol

It was the first question that put me right off.
Male, female or other?
WTF :rolleyes

Yes, because your school biology was the be-all and end-all of the subject and it's not in *any* way more complicated than that... :rolleyes

I reckon in a survey about autonomous vehicles the categories of male or female will do just fine don't you?
Or maybe XY or XX if it makes you feel any better?
Or is it a secret test to see how "Other" people think?
-
Go on, answer the question, man up! :)
-
I reckon in a survey about autonomous vehicles the categories of male or female will do just fine don't you?
Right, so you want to force everyone into an arbitrary binary because that's what you feel comfortable with... :rolleyes
Or maybe XY or XX if it makes you feel any better?
Nice way to demonstrate your ignorance of human chromosome patterns.
-
I'm just the right age for an autonomous vechicle.
-
Lets see who is behind this then shall we.
Its called Horizon 2020 the European Research Council. Which is a research programme "steering group" that has spent €80 billion up to 2020 and are now looking for a further 100 billion to carry on, no wonder when the Directorate-General for Research and Innovation who heads it is trousering at least 200K per year salary and a pension with equivalent to an 1.7m pot :eek .Also at the top running the EU quango are
- A Commissioner
- Director-General
- Deputy Director-General x3
This from the man at the top -- “Getting people excited about European research is one of the main aims of Horizon 2020 Europe missions” :rolleyes
Oh and the IAM is one of the "partners"
-
Nice try Grahamm :lol
-
Old git you'll never be the right age for one of them autonomous thing err me bobs not while you can still throw a leg over a bike.
-
Let's look a little further into who this group is:
Horizon 2020 is the biggest EU Research and Innovation programme ever with nearly €80 billion of funding available over 7 years (2014 to 2020) – in addition to the private investment that this money will attract. It promises more breakthroughs, discoveries and world-firsts by taking great ideas from the lab to the market.
Hmm.
In 2011 the EU Heads of State and Government called on the European Commission to bring together all of the previous EU's research and innovation funding under a single common strategic framework. The Commission launched a wide-ranging consultation involving all key stakeholders which has led to Horizon 2020.
The European Commission has compiled all the feedback from stakeholders, and has taken into account recommendations from the European Parliament, as well as lessons learned from previous programmes. The message was clear – make Horizon 2020 simpler for users – and it is!
So fazersharp seems to think funding research and innovation and bringing it together under one roof where efforts can be concentrated, rather than being scattered piecemeal all over Europe is a bad idea.
Nice try...
PS Oh and, of course, because we're *leaving*, we're no longer going to be able to participate or beneift from this scheme.
Professor Brian Cox has a few things to say about that...
We spent many years presenting the U.K. as the best place in the world to do science. Science is one of the fundamental foundations of our economy. These figures demonstrate what happens when a country trashes its international reputation. Hard to build, easy to destroy.
And so do the Royal Society:
- UK’s annual share of EU research funding has fallen by half a billion Euros since 2015
- Almost a 40% drop in UK applications to Horizon 2020
- 35% fewer scientists coming to the UK through key schemes

I thought the original reply was sarcastic - joking one.
Anyway, that's what happens when political correctness overcomes the common sense.
As far as computer-driven cars: I would be surprised if, by the time my grand-kids get to the driving age any person is still allowed to drive a car - humans will surely be considered too unreliable. Just like new cars today can't be sold without an ABS (correct me if that's still allowed within the EU at least).

Yes, that's what i'm doing, i'm FORCING people to tell the truth.
Are you a man, or a woman?
It ain't a difficult question.
Thank you for proving you're an ignorant bigot.

Cox studied physics at the University of Manchester. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree with first-class honours and a Master of Philosophy degree in physics.
He completed his Doctor of Philosophy degree in high-energy particle physics at the University of Manchester.
His thesis, Double Diffraction Dissociation at Large Momentum Transfer was based on research he did on the H1 experiment at the Hadron Elektron Ring Anlage (HERA) particle accelerator at the DESY laboratory in Hamburg, Germany.
Cox is a Royal Society University Research Fellow, a PPARC Advanced Fellow, and particle physicist at the University of Manchester and he works on the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN.
He is working on the research and development project of the FP420 experiment in an international collaboration to upgrade the ATLAS and the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) experiment by installing additional, smaller detectors at a distance of 420 metres from the interaction points of the main experiments.
Cox has co-authored several books on physics including Why does E=mc2?[38] and The Quantum Universe, both with Jeff Forshaw.

It's those 'other' people again?
And as for Neil Gaiman, does he know me? I've never heard of him myself, but he's very entitled to his personal random statements, just like everyone else is.

Okay, i hear you, fair enough.
'Some' people sound like the ones that need to tick the 'other' box then, i guess.
I don't "fear" these people at all by the way, i just don't necessarily comprehend their way of thinking, call me old school if you wish. But then there are plenty of standard male or female people i don't get either so it's all a bit of a moot point anyway.

You forgot to add the infinite monkey cage to his CV, I am guessing Wikipedia didn't have that info for you to cut and paste. That's all you did with the info I gave you about Horizon 2020 you just googled it and went straight to their propaganda page and cut and pasted how they describe themselves. # Lazy.
I would hazard a bet that you never even knew about it, I wonder if anyone reading this knew about this EU department with an 180billion budget
And Its far from the streamlined efficient "under one roof" glorious EU department that you describe it as.Its one gigantic talking shop with 100's of layers of lifelong Eurocrats busy thinking up ways to justifi their own jobs.
And that's one of the problems with the EU commission- its a massive gravy train with an endless pot of cash from all the mugs who pay into it.
Horizion 2020 ----
- an enabler for reaching key objectives
- institution-wide deliverables
- multiannual Strategic Plan to prepare the content in the work programmes

Yep you are right - I will no longer add EU related stuff here either. Because Its all over you lost - time to move on. Even Gina Miller has said time to move on and Tony Blair has agreed its all over and has said “Brexit is happening, and our attitude now should be to strive to make the best of it; to approach it with determined optimism",
All other remainers should do the same.
There was however one final act of submission to the EU that the UK had to abide by and it was leaving at 11pm -- because that was 12 midnight EU time, we should of left at 12pm GMT -Its our focing clock anyway :D
Done - goodbye.
-
All other remainers should do the same.
Well no.
Only two of the four countries that make up the UK voted to leave. In Scotland we have now been dragged out of the EU against our will. It’s not something we are just going to go “oh well England fucked us there – but hey let’s just suck it up and move on….” I don’t think so.
BREXIT is a foc up and yes it is happening, but we ain’t ever gonna accept it or like it.
As for it all being over, this is the beginning of the main negotiation, the beginning of BREXIT – article 50 – now having been completed. The Tories have only a few months now to avoid a devastating NO DEAL BREXIT.
Meanwhile we await the next UK economic figures, the previous figures showed the UK’s economy at a standstill.

In the absence of a second Scottish Independence referendum I'm afraid you'll have to, and after the way the SNP behaved trying to overturn the biggest democratic mandate in UK electoral history, if I was PM I'd be minded to never offer them another indy vote ever again :)
-
Excuse me, can you back up your statement?

I'll take that as NO.

Indeed, know your place Scotland, do as you are told, suck it up and get over it.
Aye, that’ll work well. :lol
There is next to no chance of Indyref2 this year, and nobody in their right mind would want to go there this year.
But next year we have the parliamentary elections. Whilst the SNP are not without their difficulties, I do not see at this time any serious opposition or alternative. Plus many are rightly pissed off and are demanding big change.
Whilst there is right now a majority in parliament in favour of Indyref2, the SNP have, if they play their cards right, the opportunity to do the impossible twice and win an overall majority in the parliament. At that point Johnson would have to concede – Indyref2 would be all but inevitable.

Exactly, you’d have to troll through all my posts to try find something really outrageous and nasty – good luck with that. That’s because you can’t think of anything off the top of your head – nothing stands out. Because the truth is you just find it difficult to accept that others may hold opinions that differ from those of your own. And of course, in often being unable to address the substance you choose instead to attack and/or slate the individual.
And here we are, certain foc-u members can’t put down their small minded, discriminatory, extreme right wing views for one minute to discuss, what will be to some extent or other inevitable - autonomous vehicles. Which surely you would think that as motorcyclists we might just be a little interested in.
Yeah instead, lets have a bigoted intolerant rant including the desire to physically assault anybody we may find irritating. Foc-u indeed.

Yeah instead, lets have a bigoted intolerant rant including the desire to physically assault anybody we may find irritating. Foc-u indeed.
1. Abandon the purpose built Brexit thread
2. Find an innocuous thread on something bike related
3. Make pointless statements blaming the EU for something vaguely related
4. Wait for a response
5. Express outrage at the response
6. Repeat 4 and 5 continuously
It's called 'baiting' :rolleyes

1) Basically dismissing the issue of anti-semitism as fake news and a right-wing conspiracy (As if those poor people haven't suffered enough over the centuries already they then have to put up with this sort of bigotry).
2) Chucking just about every disgusting insult/allegation possible at Boris Johnson in a single paragraph (and you people have the gall to complain that Corbyn was allegedly vilified during the election campaign).
3) Calling Tommyardin a "stupid c**t".
Enough?

Presumably you mean within the Labour Party.
Is this the best you can do? Clutching at straws?
So,

Respect is not the same as doublespeak. Recently I came across this:
https://hbr.org/2015/10/what-to-do-and-say-after-a-tough-reorganization
Suppose now people don't get fired, they get "affected by reorganization"?! :)
When US kills women and children, it's "collateral damage".
To me such things look like adding insult to injury, not showing any respect. Not really.
I may be conservative, but find it hard to see how a person's gender can be "other". Pick one for God sake! :)
Can imagine a white guy from South Africa, getting a US citizenship and getting insulted when not referred to as "African American". Might make a decent Monty Python sketch.
-
1)
Basically dismissing the issue of anti-semitism as fake news and a right-wing conspiracy (As if those poor people haven't suffered enough over the centuries already they then have to put up with this sort of bigotry).
Jeremy Corbyn was called by one Blairite Labour MP a “fucking anti-Semite and a racist,”
Hodge is of course an unapologetic Zionist supporter of the state of Israel.
Twisted arguments
Every argument in this debate is twisted, every fact distorted to serve the overwhelming narrative of collective victimhood. Meanwhile, among the same people who feel so outraged by Corbyn, there is total silence about what is happening in Israel. It is not even covered. They are not even asked questions about it. There are no press statements. It’s as if it's not happening.
But something is happening in Israel. Its prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, called the Nation State Law (https://www.middleeasteye.net/news/read-full-israels-nation-state-jewish-people-law-789309334) "a defining moment". It certainly was that. The Nation State Law defined sovereignty and democratic self-rule as the exclusive or "unique" right of Jews, wherever they live in the world.
So, according to this constitution, Hodge, who represents Barking, now has - by law - a right as a British Jew that overrides any right a Palestinian has in his or her own land. Ethnic and religious discrimination has become a constitutional value in the State of Israel. Is this Labour Party policy?
What exactly about the state of Israel do you support, Margaret Hodge?
https://www.middleeasteye.net/opinion/what-exactly-about-state-israel-do-you-support-margaret-hodge (https://www.middleeasteye.net/opinion/what-exactly-about-state-israel-do-you-support-margaret-hodge)
The British right-wing press jumped on Hodge’s outrageous slur, and as she had hoped, used it to undermine and destroy Labour’s election chances.
So let me now quote John Bercow
I do not myself believe that Jeremy Corbyn is anti-Semitic. That is my honest view. You haven't asked me explicitly, but you've nevertheless drawn me and I want to make that point. I am not saying that he doesn't have a challenge in his party. It is an issue and it does need to be addressed and I respect those who are very concerned about it, but I don't believe Jeremy Corbyn is anti-Semitic. I've known him for the 22 years I've been in parliament. Even, actually, when I was a right-winger we got on pretty well. He was quite a personable individual.
Chucking just about every disgusting insult/allegation possible at Boris Johnson in a single paragraph
Boris Johnson is a lair, a racist, a homophobe and a misogynist. These are not insults, they are not allegations – they are simply facts. Oh, can anybody tell us how many children he has fathered. What a guy – eh?
Calling Tommyardin a "stupid c**t".
Who? Oh him. Don’t remember that, maybe I did :eek :lol , he does after all hold some pretty outrageous discriminatory views.
So there you go. You have seem to have the same problem as darrsi, in that you object most strongly to those who do not share your own narrow outlook and views. And as you can neither accept that not everybody will share your views, and nor are you able to address the substance of others views, you instead choose to attack the individual. And as we can see here, those who do not share your often twisted outlook and opinion are nasty and sick.

I saw this on the IAM Facebook page, asking people's opinions on autonomous cars, planes and ships.
It takes about 10-15 minutes to complete.

2. All politicians are fair game. Johnson is now 'in charge', so he can expect much more. Plus he pretends to be things he is not.
3. I was told yesterday to 'shut the fuck up'. Does that count? Not that I give a toss of course :D

Now I don't give a toss either, but I have endured endless taunts and insults on this forum, even threats of violence, and for what? Becuase I don't support BREXIT? Because I don't like facists, and I object to homophobia, racism and islamaphobia etc etc.
But really, lets just get back to autonomous vechicles - hey, maybe even bikes.
Oh roll on march.

Basically dismissing the issue of anti-semitism as fake news and a right-wing conspiracy
Presumably you mean within the Labour Party.
Is this the best you can do? Clutching at straws?
So,
Exactly, you’d have to troll through all my posts to try find something really outrageous and nasty – good luck with that.
Try again folks. :lol
I think you should audition for a part as a Bond villain, because you are undoubtedly 100% insane and will fit the part perfectly.
Yet again you have ignored and dismissed what anyone else has said as if your way of thinking is the only one that matters, and any ideas or suggestions by other people should just be brushed aside.
You have a massively irritating superiority complex which in your disturbed little mind thinks you can steam roll your way through what should be simple and friendly discussions whilst blatantly chucking insults at anyone who dares to cross your path.
And yet YOU have the audacity to suggest that this forum has become a nasty place as if none of it was because of your downright rude responses for the majority of the time.
I don't know what has made you become this way in your life time, or maybe you have always behaved naturally against the grain, but it would seem to me, and others no doubt, that you do get a real buzz and satisfaction from persistently rubbing people up the wrong way.
Just thought i'd share my honest opinion, not that you'll soak up or acknowledge any of it, because a discussion with you is like pissing into the wind.

I’ll take that as a NO.

I saw this on the IAM Facebook page, asking people's opinions on autonomous cars, planes and ships.
It takes about 10-15 minutes to complete.

Anyone want to get back on topic?

Yes, as I said in my last post help and sympathy is the most important thing. Condemnation is of little use or value. Support is everything. Stay strong :thumbup .

1. Abandon the purpose built Brexit thread
I'm not going to address the other points you mention, but I do have to remind you that it was "NOT an attempt to start a discussion", I literally just wanted to post ONE cartoon.
The rest of it wasn't my fault!!!

the rest of it wasn't my fault!!!
I know! :)

the rest of it wasn't my fault!!!
I know! :)
Well yeah you would, bearing in mind that you were one of the early contributors :)
-
Not as early as you though ;)
-
True, but I'm not the one complaining :D .
I was #10 and you were #12. I got in 3 hours & 51 mins ahead of you :)
-
Huh?
I think you will find that you were banging on about the EU at #2 :rolleyes
Or is there some sort of parallel universe I've missed?
-
Just realised we're talking about two different threads.
Brexit thread is fair game. Autonomous vehicles thread has been diverted into a 2nd Brexit thread by someone :rolleyes

Brexit thread got locked tho didn't it? :rolleyes .
Autonomous vehicles was diverted by yours truly and Grahamm's 'This is not an attempt......' thread was hijacked by Foc-U's resident Mr Nasty ;)
-
OK 3rd Brexit thread
But Grahamm's (the 2nd) was always about Brexit :rolleyes
-
You've lost me now :rolleyes . Which one is Brexit thread #3?.
-
This one!
Not meant to be, but someone mentioned the EU, and it all kicked off :)
