Just got a Tracer 9GT (2021) - nice bike and worth considering.

Been a while, but now (post covid) I'm thinking of getting a FZ1.
Been riding a Honda NC750x for the last 6 or 7 years (easy commuter and 70MPG), but now I'll be mostly working from home with only a couple of day a week in the office, MPG isn't quite as important so something a bit more fun is in order :)

Check the connections are clean and tight and that the plug is fully inserted. Check the other end of the wire to make sure you didn't disturm that as well. Try loosening the screws and moving it a abit (it's basically a potentiometer - volume control) so a wiggle won't hurt.

TPS sensor misaligned.

It maybe at tickover, but a crack in the plug cap may not show up until higher rpm or under load.

If you swap leads and the fault follows it's electrical - a simple and easy tests. Same for removing the plug and looking at it. As every Haynes manual used to point out, you could tell the mixture by the spark plug colour. Block jet or air leak = weak mixture . Electrical fault means unburned fuel.

I'd start with stuff like that before pulling the carbs.

7
It may very well be the carbs. But it's not the first job I would be rushing to do with a misfire.

Totally agree - hence advised to take out #3 plug and inspect it. Swapping leads is another good one.

8
On the fazer there are two coils, each fires a pair of cyclinders, so normally if a coil fails then both cylinders will play up.
Take the plug out on #3. If dry maybe carb issue (no fuel), if wet then that shows you have fuel.

Got a couple of these:

For a £40 unit I'm really impressed. Battery life is excellent as is sound. The intercom works a treat as well, although I think the 800m range is pushing it a little. Did a 3 hour ride with Drew and had the intercom channel open the whole time - battery not even down to 50%.

Drew passed his CBT  :woot

So we got a CB125F 2012 plate (the day before) which I had to ride back from Frome to Bristol - first time on a 125 in almost 30 years lol

Nice little bike - desperately needs a service, so done oil etc already.

Anyone know where I can find a PDF copy of the manual?

Handy guide.

Finally talked Drew into doing his bike test so decided to look for a cheap 125 - like I had. Paid about £100 for it.

Bloody hell - what happened to the prices?! The only 125 under £500 was a write off with bits missing. Most of 'em were over a grand!

My 50cc cost £85, The 125 cost about £110 and the 250cc was around £200!

Start where you last disturbed thing - playing with the tank sender unit shouldn't affect plugs etc. Check the easy of obvious first. Then move on.

Moving the tank could also disturb water and crud from the bottom. The fule filter should take care of most of th crud. Ethanol (meths) will absorb water if added to the fuel.

Thread is a little old now - but often found on my fazer the battery was a little weak so turning the headlight off would often get it to start. If that fails don't sit they cranking it and flooding it - bump start it if you can.

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Boxeye headlight question ?
« on: 16 April 2017, 09:10:46 pm »
Save your money and time. The box eye headlights are total junk. I tried the wiring mod so was running both 55w filiment on dip and run new power cabled from battery (via relay) and even then the lights are so crap they failed to light the road ahead. The reflector is the issue - it's too small so most of the the liight stays inside the headlight case and isn't focused on the road.

If you really need decent light you'll need after market ones or HID's - but watch the generator - on the Mk1 it's underpowered and even the basic lightling mod takes it a little over it's limit so the battery won't charge properly. (you can fit a MK2 generator coil with a bit of rework on the connectors)

Check you haven't kinked the breather tubes.

« on: 23 July 2016, 06:27:44 pm »
Most old fazers have got cracked rubbers on the carbs - but these are much thicker than you think. Anyhow, one way to tell if the crack goes all the way through is to spray a little wd40 on the crack. If it gets sucked in then you have a leak, if it runs off (as it most often does with cracked rubbers) then you're fine; it's just surface cracking.

General / Re: when does filtering become DWDC?
« on: 17 June 2015, 01:55:10 pm »
When I did the BikeSafe they guy said the 20:20 law. Traffic no more that 20MPH and you no more that 20 faster than the traffic. I personally twist that to I won't do more that 40 max, so even if traffic doing 30 I'll still filter.
