MT-09 Test

Hi everyone
My local bike shop was kind enough to loan me a new Yamaha MT-09 for 2 hours today! Here is my verdict:
It's blisteringly fast and very agile! I mean, the acceleration is stunning; I had trouble keeping front end down. It reminded me of a trials bike. It was quite jerky but great fun. Would I swap my Fazer for it? No way, I got back on my Fazer after my 2 hour test drive on the MT-09 and it was so much smoother and much more comfortable. The MT-09 is a fun bike and I enjoyed my test drive, however its not for me, this is just my personal opinion.

I think the MT 09 is a brill concept , but its fugly FFS ....to me Yam have missed the boat completely.....    
 
the triple engine has probably the best torque characteristics for road use, its why triumph have used it for years.....I even read yams designers deliberately made it ugly cos they thought we wanted this ! Oh yes , just like we wanted jerky fuelling ( 2006 FZ-1)...which they seem to have also brought back with the MT...
 
will be checking it out at NEC , but if its anything like the bike mags photos.....

Looks apart, (beauty in the eye of the beholder etc. etc.....) theres no excuse for jerky fuelling-after all fuel injection has been around long enough now & some manufacturers can do it right first time so with all their resources why not Yamaha?   I understand they have to pass ever more stringent emission controls to comply with EU regs etc BUT maybe they need to work on FUNCTION as much as FORM. Im sticking with my carbed 600-perfect fuelling!

To be sure you need to see it in real life.
I don't like all the "bits" - plastic or whatever that serve no purpose other than make it look attractive to 12 year olds -its too fussy, I want a grown up looking simple looking bike. You know like an FZS600.

It's because they have to add a huge amount of ignition advance right at the bottom end usually to get the bike to run clean enough to pass the tests,  which makes for a very snatchy throttle!

If you want pure fun, all the smiles you can take........Stephens Stage 3 350 YPVS, first model with the handlebar and pro-am style cockpit fairing, Stephens/Lomas spannies. I gradually traded down and down from bigger bikes as I got more strapped for cash, until this was all I could afford. Thought I'd miss all that big-bore power, but fk me, that bike was REAL fun. Had an F (or was it N?) model later, clip-ons, no fairing, but the standard bar of the earlier model meant even a divot like me had the front wheel pawing the air at will
