FZS600 Fazer / Looking at buying a FZS600 again.
« on: 12 July 2016, 11:51:55 am »
Hi all.
I've been off the site for a while after having a bit of a break from biking but looking at getting back into it.
I've come across a 2000 FZS600 Fazer at my local dealership, ive not been to see it yet, but going this afternoon.
Its done 36k miles and going for £1000 as its was taken in part ex against a new bike.
Not sure what the exhaust is, as the pictures not great and its had a mod on the front headlights.
Not sure what people think?
I used to own a FZS600 very similar to that one just in black and also had a FZ6 but wasnt too impressed.

Fazer 1000/FZ1 corner / Mileage comparison?
« on: 14 September 2015, 09:09:43 am »
Hi all,

Hope you don't mind me asking a silly question?
How does the fuel economy and range compare between the FZS600 and the FZS1000?
I'm looking at upgrading to a FZS1000 (probably 01 plate) and mainly be using it for commuting to and from work and a bit of weekend riding?
I normally put about £15 in my FZS600 and get about 160 miles out of it as its mostly urban/mid speed riding i do, no motorways or 50mph+ roads.
Also do you think the FZS1000 would b a bit over kill for this as I really do like the look of the bike and love my FZS600 just looks a bit dated now and want something with a bit more power in case i want to start taking the missus out and about.
Thanks

FZS600 Fazer / Thinking of going naked
« on: 07 August 2015, 02:25:44 pm »
Hi all,

After doing bits and bobs on the bike recently and trying to iron out all the kinks and strange noises I am starting to think that alot of the issues with the vibration and weird feeling is down to the front fairing vibrating/resonating and certain revs.
I took the front to bits earlier and took it for a test ride outside my work and normally once at about 5+k rpm it feels strange and vibey and feels like I have to change up to keep it out of that patch, after removing the fairing and lights it didnt feel like that at all and pushed it up to about 10krpm in first, which you probably shouldnt do but its almost the first time i have felt like i could.
I put the headlight unit back in without the fairing and rode it again and it was still fine, I have put the fairing back on now but ran out of time so will have to try it on the ride home.
One thing i thought was that due to the bike having a few dash mods that this could maybe cause the wiring loom to become fatter and making the fairing not sit right? although I am seriously considering removing the temp gauge and the analogue clock as I dont really need them and they not sure i like the look of them anyway.
Guess what i was asking about was should the worst happen and that annoying vibe is still there, whats the best way to go about replacing the lights and is there much work involved?
I have seen a few headlight setups on ebay, although I only ride at day and finish work at 4:30pm so its only just getting dark at night even at winter, so not fussed if the replacements are similar in power to the standard ones (think someone mentioned this about dominators??)
Wasnt sure how people mount the clocks and indicators??

FZS600 Fazer / Regulator/rectifier?
« on: 04 August 2015, 10:14:46 am »
Hi All,

Still working on getting my bike running right.
After ready a rather lengthy thread by Red98 I am hoping that I might be getting closer to sorting mine out?
I had checked over by a garage but at the time never thought to mention regulator/rectifier.
They said the engine was running fine, cleaned and synced carbs and checked over other things on the bike.
Guess my question is, is there any other way of knowing if the regulator might be faulty? i have noticed that  few times when i get on my bike the head lights look worse than usual (if that's possible) more of a yellow then a white light??
I don't have any electrical testing equipment to test the regulator with and probably wouldn't have a clue where to start?
I did buy one off eBay last year although it was a old one and not in the best shape so maybe it had a fault as well but didn't make any difference? so was wondering whether to try again with one? but was sure which one to buy as mine is a 1998 model and wasn't sure if i can buy a later mode version or if I need to stick to 1998's??
I appreciate any advice.

FZS600 Fazer / Sonic carb cleaning?
« on: 03 July 2015, 08:15:12 am »
Hi all,

I booked my bike in last week for a carb clean as i have owned the bike for a year and didnt know the last time it was done, the garage said he was going to put the carbs in a sonic carb cleaner and this would give them a better clean than just a strip and clean.
Although now i have the bike back it seems to be runnign worse than ever and when i looked at the carbs last night, the exterior didnt look all that clean, almost the same as before, but when i looked up on youtube for sonic cleaners the carbs they cleaned came out pretty spotless?
So my questions is, should they be clean on the outside also? or do you think the garage has pulled a fast one and just done a small amount of cleaning and charged me for something hes not done, especially as its running rough and now barely idles at 1000 - 1250 rpm and have to keep it around 1500 to tick over properly without sounding like its going to cut out.
Have attached a few pictures to show current condition of the carbs.
Thanks

FZS600 Fazer / Slow starting
« on: 16 April 2015, 01:34:08 pm »
Hi all again,

thought i was winning the battle with my fazer but recently she has started playing up a little again.
When i go to work in the morning, most of the time she starts fine, still need a little bit of choke as its still a bit cool but runs ok, once i get to work i park it up and when i come to start it again about 7 hours later it takes a couple of seconds and a bit more throttle to get it going?
Also recently the Immobiliser has started playing up, it arms and disarms fine, but it used to beep when I used to put my dallas key on the thing and it sets itself when i  take the key out of the ignition, but lately its not doing that.

« on: 16 April 2015, 10:23:24 am »
Hi all,

My bikes still running a bit rough so thought i would check the spark plugs and bits.
Not sure how there supposed to look and if these are the original plug caps?
So maybe its time to change both over??

FZS600 Fazer / Engine mounting bolts?
« on: 27 March 2015, 04:31:16 pm »
Just decided to wash my bike while weather ok and while cleaning behind the exhaust down pipes noticed the bottom bolt on the support looks odd? Like something's missing (rubber thing) sorry for all the technical talk?
Maybe this is why my bikes still a bit vibey?

FZS600 Fazer / White gunk?
« on: 24 March 2015, 10:21:18 am »
Just thought i would give my bike a little check over and opened the oil filler thing and came across this.
I do about 14 miles a day - 7 to work - 7 home. thats town riding and max around 40 miles an hour.
lately its been pretty frosty around here and tried to warm the bike up a bit before riding but as i start work early and the bikes on my drive i don't like pissing the neighbors off.

FZS600 Fazer / Restricted???
« on: 23 February 2015, 02:44:14 pm »
Hi All,

Is there an easy way to tell if a bikes restricted?
I have made previous threads on there about my bike feeling under powered and having a vibration around 5kRPM.
I have read that there could be restrictor washers in the inlet rubbers? but is this something that I can check with not a vast amount of technical know how.
I have check mounting bolts, carb sync and filters and things and everything else seems ok.
I just didnt want to start pulling lumps off my bike to find out im looking for something thats not there.
The bike is a 98 Model, its done in the region of 35K miles and been pretty well look after and serviced, its pretty much all standard bar a after market hugger and belly pan and screen.
Although i dont have contact with the previous owner to see if he had anything done to it or the owner before him?

FZS600 Fazer / Vibration/engine noise.
« on: 09 February 2015, 11:31:51 am »
Hi All, I have a 98 fzs600, I have been experiencing what i can only call vibration/buzzing at around 5k RPM + in pretty much every gear.
I dont claim to be an expert biker and not overly technical, i have tried to fix the buzz from the headlight by removing the cone and putting some foam tape around various parts of the bike.
It does it when i rev it to around 5k on side/centre stand and the same out on the road, once the revs get up to around 5k rpm i can feel the vibration/buzz through the handlebars and fuel tank?
Unsure if its engine mounting bolts or something i have missed?
I tried to get this looked at before christmas and took it to my local garage who took it out for a test ride and said its fine and nothing wrong with it, although he may be right, i have owned a couple of fazers in the past (well about 10 years ago) and i cant remember them being so buzzy?
Its had a new chain and the bike is in reasonable condition, its just one of those things which seems to spoil the riding experience.

FZS600 Fazer / Front brake calipers
« on: 26 January 2015, 02:08:15 pm »
Hi all,

Gave my bike a clean the weekend and decided to clean the calipers, not a full blown removal, just removing them off disc and taking pads out and cleaning dust and gunk out of them.
when i pumped the pistons out a little one came really far out and nearly dropped out, was sitting at an angle.
Now the front wheel seems to bind a little, i have removed that caliper and the wheel does spin a little more freely with it off, but its all nice and clean inside now, so i am thinking that maybe when the piston became unseated some air might have gotten in, so would you recommend bleeding the system.
I am pretty new to the whole bike maintenance thing (sorry) I normally just get my local garage to do it (now i know why)
thanks

FZS600 Fazer / Exhaust blowing/vibration
« on: 03 November 2014, 09:21:58 am »
Hi All,
Recently i have been overhauling my 98 fazer, i have had the whole front off looking for the cause of a vibration/noise.
I seem to have slimmed it down to possibly be from the exhaust.
It appears that where the black pipe goes into the silver can it is blowing? it is quite noisy and gets worse from 3000rpm up as if the pressure if building up and comes out of there?
Not sure if this means my exhaust is on its way out?
Also I noticed last week when standing behind the bike there is more of a fuel smell as if the exhaust isnt filtering it properly? and slightly whiter smoke? also droplets of water are coming from the two drainage holes on the underside of the can even though it has not been out in the wet? although sure this is probably just a bi product of the exhaust.
Sorry that my technical/mechanical knowledge is almost zero, but hopefully someone else has seen this as I just want to get my bike running well and enjoy riding it without the niggly little problems and noises.
Thanks
