FZS600 Fazer / Re: R1 Clocks Switch - Electrical help
« on: 29 October 2020, 04:54:53 pm »
I've attached an update to your spreadsheet. This shows (I hope/think) what wires from the R1 are going into the instrument cluster. I guess the next step find the equivalent wires on the Fazer wiring diagram.

Ben, mate you're a legend.

I will give it a crack in the next month or so.

Hi ben,

I am trying to connect the R1 instrument panel, to the Fazer main harness.

The bike is a FZS600 2000 (5DM). With the normal loom etc.

But the Clocks/ instrument panel are off the R1 (5JJ).

So I will be using the connector for the R1 instrument panel, from an R1 front loom that I purchased. Then cutting off the wires at the  at the loom end, then matching up each of the wires function,  with the Fazer wires by colour.

Hi Kebab.

I could do but i kind of want the challenge of getting these to work.

I will document it all in case it does come off then anyone else who wants to give it a bash has an initial leg up.

Does anyone know if i can actually narrow down each wire in the loom using the wiring diagram?

Cheers,

James

FZS600 Fazer / R1 Clocks Switch - Electrical help
« on: 21 October 2020, 11:11:10 pm »
Can anyone with a bit of electrical know how give me a hand with this?

I'm trying to switch the clocks on my 2000 plate FZS600 with a R1 (5JJ) clocks.

I have the R1 front end on the bike, having the corresponding speed sensor / clocks seemed like a good idea at the time :rollin

I'm struggling with working out what's what, on the R1 terminal from the wiring diagram.

Perhaps I am going about it the wrong way?

FZS600 Fazer / Bolt on Swing Arm?
« on: 25 June 2019, 09:03:49 am »
Hi,

Does anyone know if there are any swing arms that "bolt on" to an FZS600 (1999).

Answers ideally from anyone who has actually done it.

Searching the forum maybe an Kwak ER6 (2010)? or R6 (Year?).

Thanks,

James

FZS600 Fazer / Ignition Barrel Electrics
« on: 07 November 2018, 08:15:35 pm »
Hi all,

Did the electrics change at all between the FZS 600 models? I am looking to replace the ignition barrel on my 1998 fzs600 and have found a 2003 one on ebay.

Will it be a straight swap?

Thanks in advance

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Front Tyre Question
« on: 21 May 2018, 12:08:47 pm »
Google it and look at the images. It looks like a different tyre, like a big adventure touring skinny tyre.  So although it fits, and has enough of a speed rating, could the profile be significantly different?

Its almost like they are selling it under the same brand name but from a different mold for a different application.

Thoughts?

FZS600 Fazer / Front Tyre Question
« on: 18 May 2018, 02:20:18 pm »
Afternoon all,

a friend of mine recommend the metzeler roadtec 01 tyres.

http://www.metzeler.com/site/uk/en/products/tyres-catalogue/Roadtec-01

It says at the bottom of that page they do a looks like they do a 110/70 - 17 M/C 54H TL, which would be great.

However, it looks like an ADV version? And it doesn't have the normal speed rating, what do you guys reckon, would it be different profile or unsafe to use?

Cheers,

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Which fork springs?
« on: 27 February 2018, 04:58:49 pm »
Why do the 2 Springs look quite different (pictured above)? - Their closely coiled sections are far from 'even', with the Springs side by side - is there good reason for this?

Hi Focced_Off,

The shinier one on the left is the new one, and  the one on the right is the original.

Interesting to see more tight coiling on the old one eh? I'm guessing the material of the new one provides extra firmness, but it didn't seem that different to me, when i was handling it, will be interesting to see what its like on the road.

Hi all,

So I purchased the Wilbers. Very exciting. Fitted them in the garage and during my pre-ride check i have seen a screw in my rear tyre! Gutted!

Need to get it plugged before i can take the bike out for a spin and find out what sort of difference they make.

Interesting to see they have a smaller amount of tightly coiled winding at the top. I guess the material is stronger to produce a stiffer front end?

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Front Fork Stanchions/Tubes
« on: 13 February 2018, 08:08:32 am »
Hi, my fazer was bought with pitting on both stanchions just at the edge of the fork travel and it was rusting. Not deadly but likely to cause wear on the dust seals at least so...
I got a set of Paulo Tarozzi ones from Wemoto for what seemed like a lot of money for a shiny tube but they fitted perfectly and are working fine some 3000 miles later. However! they did have a tiny nick in them when they arrived (really tiny) and this started to rust though outside the range of travel. This was after the first salting of the roads and my bike is used every day. I treated the bike and the forks in particular with ACF50 and they were fine since.
I got new springs, bushes and seals at the same time I replaced the stanchions. Fitting was trouble free, they were the right size, shape etc and seem well made. Treat with something or get gators to ensure rust does not return.

Thanks Purist, just the sort of advice i was looking for.

FZS600 Fazer / Re: Front Fork Stanchions/Tubes
« on: 13 February 2018, 08:06:51 am »
I had the same rusty fork problem with my Fazer when I bought it. It's just down to the previous owner(s) only cleaning the bits they can see, and not up inside the fairing.
I thought about getting them re-chromed, but when I took the forks off it was apparent that they were also slightly curved. As the curve was pretty even I'm guessing that this was probably just down to 60k miles of front brake use, rather than accident damage. As I didn't want to risk getting them straightened as well as re-chromed I went for a set of the Tarozzi tubes from Wemoto. They're fine, everything went together ok and a year later I've had no problems with leaks.

Perfect, Thanks Andy much appreciated.

FZS600 Fazer / Free Fuel Sender Unit
« on: 05 February 2018, 03:22:06 pm »
Hi all,

Is anyone in need of a fuel sender unit?  Is your fuel gauge not working?

I purchased it for my 2003 FZS 600. But its does not match the one i took out so i assume it is for the pre-facelift version.

Please see photo.  If you want to pay for postage, or meet around the Croydon Bromley area its yours for free / a 4 pack of beer.

Thanks.

Anyone else think that £90-£140 for a chromed tube is a bit steep?

but its not just a chromed tube its machined threaded and then chromed slight difference
